I would like to know I'm not the only one whose LO has never slept more than a 4 hour stretch! She is 4 months and I think is going through the 4 month sleep regression.... But it's hard to tell Because she has never progressed much with her sleeping! She only eats twice a night normally but she will typically wake anywhere from 3-7 times a night when her Binkie falls out or because she is hungry. She goes back to sleep very easily, but it's still a lot of times to be woken up! Anyone else's wonderful LO a terrible nighttime sleeper??

  • I've had great nights and I've had tough nights. There really is no consistency. Last week we got our first eight hour stretch and I thought hooray, this is when it starts and lasts for good right?! But this week he's up 3 times a night again. Ooh well, I've gotten used to breastfeeding in my sleep so I'm surviving. Next week getting up at 5 for work will be no fun. I have friends with four year olds that still don't sleep through the night, some kids just don't sleep well. Coffee exists for a reason!

  • DS1 was a terrible sleeper from day one.  He woke every 2 hours until he hit the four month regression, then it was every 90 minutes for about 5 weeks.  His naps were 35-45 minutes and he was very difficult to get to sleep then and at bedtime as well.  Even my mother, who adores him and was so positive for me about it at the time will freely admit that he was a crap sleeper now.  I was so lost, we did everything, we tried everything and nothing worked with him.  I finally learned how to put him to sleep in the swing (he originally hated it) which gave us naps that could reach 90 minutes, though an hour was more typical.

I'm not posting to depress you I swear, just the opposite.  DS1 turned into the easiest and best sleeper on the block.  Things started rapidly improving after we made it through his regression and all the tricks and tools we used that didn't work when he was 2 and 3 months became invaluable as he got older.  This is the same kid that transitioned to a big boy bed with almost no fuss at all. He runs upstairs at bedtime and never gives my mom or a sitter a hard time about naps either. The same things that made him a high maintenance baby are the things that make him an easy going and independent toddler. If I could go back in time I wouldn't change a thing because I genuinely believe I was lucky that DH and I learned so much from him, and TBH a 4 month old and a 2 year old is nothing compared to just DS1 as a baby lol.

  • Mine slept through the night 3 days in a row at 11 weeks we moved him to his crib and he's never done it again. Used to be only one wake up between 12 and 2 has now routinely become 3 to 4 wake ups. He's always hungry so I bottle feed him some then he passes out. I know it won't last and my dh helps so I just keep chugging along. I really cannot wait to sleep again.
