Fit Mama Check In 12/29

Good morning all!! Now that phase one of holidays is over, I thought it'd be fun to do a little fitness check in!

Did you manage to keep up with workouts and healthy eating around Christmas?
I, for one, didn't get as many workouts in as I wanted. HOWEVER, I did make it Xmas eve and the day after Xmas, so I really only missed a day or two AND we were out of town so that's pretty good. I managed to stay mostly within my calorie goals even if the foods weren't the best choices, with the exception of Christmas Eve. I need to get carbs down a bit (it's been most of my intake lately) and protein up (I've been taking in WAY less than usual).

Any travel fitness tips you've come across?
I always try to pack healthy snacks... Precut apples, cottage cheese, skinny pop popcorn, acceptable beef jerky low in sugar, granola bars, etc. it helps me from grabbing nastiness at a gas station or fast food. It helps to make sure your hotel had a fridge of some sort. Pinterest has lots of bodyweight workouts and I purchased resistance bands to do circuits with. Most hotels have at least a treadmill that I can add into circuits!

Have you developed any new workout plans with pregnancy?
I finally bought Jessie's Girls Prenatal Edition!!!! It looks awesome... It even goes into how to break down your macros. The protein is a bit high for my liking, so I took that down a bit and replaced it with carbs. It also has prenatal yoga twice a week... So I'm lookin for a studio near me and j think I found one! Only problem is it will cost $297 for just three months :o ... Hoping it'll be worth it. Anyone else in Chicago area interested in this? It's in the river north area if so! It'd be so fun!

challenges in getting to the gym this week? How will you overcome that?
Overall tiredness and being my last week of break before back to work (I'm a teacher) I just want to veg on the couch BUT NO!!! I am prepacking my gym gear and getting everything ready this morning so there is NO EXCUSE this afternoon!!! I hope my new workout plan will motivate me a bit too :) !

GTKY: what non-baby event are you most looking forward to right now?
My best friend is packing up her two kids (4 and 1 in age) and bringing them down to the city for an old school sleepover tomorrow! When we put them to bed it'll be a sex and the city marathon with some yummy Chinese food (cheat meal!) WOOHOO!

Lol, sometimes I feel like such a fraud checking in here, but I do try to stay active.

    1. I SUCK at eating healthy. Like, don't hangout with me if you don't want to always we be full and indulging in greasy food. However, I do workout to combat my awful eating habits. I made it to the gym every day I did not work last week. That's about five days. I was legit sore.

    2. I don't travel.

    3. I joined an expensive ass gym recently and with that comes some kickass classes. I am learning yoga now. I have zero yoga foundation, but am determined to do it throughout this pregnancy.

    4. If I don't go to the gym I don't get a mommy break. I make sure to make it

  • @DDRRT1982 you are NOT a fraud LOL! I have to admit I LOVE greasy food and throughout this pregnancy it's been hard to say no knowing I'm going to gain weight regardless! I've just been trying to cook ahead of time to reduce the risk of stuffing my face w Chinese food and pizza! "Fit" means something different for everyone :) I don't have much of a yoga background either but I'm excited to try it!
  • Did you manage to keep up with the workouts and heathy eating over Christmas?
For the most part. I didn't workout Christmas Day, but other than that I have been pretty consistent. I have to work around nausea and sickness but the workouts are still getting done.

Have you developed any we workout plans for pregnancy?
I plan on maintaining my regimen of cardio & lifting. Right now beachbody DVDs are saving my butt. I just don't have the energy right now to create my own workout plans Ike I normally do. So.... 21 day fix, insanity, & body beast it is. I think I might order hammer & chisel which is mainly lifting but we'll see.

Challenges in getting to the gym this week?
With a 13 month old I don't get to plan my own schedule anymore... So part of the trouble I have is that by the time he's up from his nap, and we can race to go to the gym I'm sick. So I've been sticking to working out at home.

What am I non baby related looking forward to right now?
Headed out of town to upper Michigan with my family for the next 5 days :)

Anyone have a Fitbit and want to do a weekly step challenge together? I figure if I am too sick to kick my butt in the gym at least I can get my steps in!
  • Omg @Bethyboo26 FITBIT YESS!!!!! That is Such a perfect idea!!! How do we accomplish this and who else wants to join!?? Should we make a thread announcing that or is that too much? Lol obvi I'm super excited by this
  • Did you manage to keep up with the workouts and heathy eating over Christmas?
i worked out but my eating hasn't been great. Carbs save me from throwing up... And Popsicles

Have you developed any new workout plans for pregnancy?
Nope. Just running and doing HIIT intervals

Challenges in getting to the gym this week?
I don't have a gym membership so the challenges have been weather related. I hate working out when it is cold!

What non baby event are you most looking forward to right now?
Going back to our home after 5 days with in-laws. Come on Friday!

  • @saam0815 either way is fine with me! It would be fun to know other pregnant mamas are getting heir steps in to.

I've been in a super competitive group and yesterday kind of realized I might need to adjust who I'm in a group with!

I too feel like a fraud. My life revolved around my running and fitness prior to getting pregnant and now I'm so damn nauseous and tired I've become a lazy slob. Carbs carbs carbs. I do walk but I'm truly doing nothing right now to stay fit. It's awful.
  • @kattyleigh I am all about the carbs too. I've read second trimester gets easier. Hang in there!!!

  • Hello ladies!! I am brand new and the first board I that drew me in was the fit mamas!! Its my first and I am due late Aug. I was active before (5-6 days a week) and plan on being a fit mama all though pregnancy if I can!

I was doing Kayla Itsines BBG before getting pregnant. It's pretty high intensity so I've put that aside and am now doing a mix of walking on incline, lower weights and following various online ebooks/YouTube channels. Also adding a day or two of yoga from YouTubers into the mix. I've found other pregnancy fitness guides online and I'm debating which one to try!!

I also have a Fitbit!! Keeps me accountable. Would love to join in with the Fitbit ladies too.

So far I have had good energy so we'll see how it lasts!!
  • Hi ladies.

I've been making it to the gym every other day. My hubby got me a fit bit for christmas which has been a lifesaver. I finally am running again and just monitoring my heart rate. My ob said to keep it under 160...what were you all told?

My workouts are at night now due to being so nauseated all day. I'm having extreme foods aversions which is frustrating me because I typically eat so healthy. Peanut butter toast with honey and fizzy water is about it.

I work full time as a speech therapist so I'm struggling a bit in the mornings. Preggy pops are helpful!
  • @deanjacq I was told 150 last time but found that was too low for me and as long as I wasn't feeling too overworked I was fine. I kept it between 160-170 always.

I did ok for workouts. The weather in the dfw and surrounding area was insane so I couldn't get out a few days. Good has been terrible. I've been making smoothies almost daily tho, but my 18 month old drinks most of it! I'm so ready for the cruise, I'm sure I'll gain a ton, but my goal is fruits and veggies with each meal then whatever I want.

No workout changes for pregnancy, but wondering if I could train for a half...

Main challenge to working out has been the weather, it's nice again so I'll hopefully get out everyday until we leave and hopefully daily on the cruise!

Gtky: the cruise. Obviously! Mexico here we come!!

@saam0815 When you post the check-in could you possible post the questions in the main post stand alone so it's easier to copy/paste on mobile? I'm lazy (odd thing to say in the fit mom check in!!)
  • Did you manage to keep up with workouts and healthy eating around Christmas?

I have been dealing with horrible morning sickness so my workouts are happening on my "good" days however I can't really say any of my days are actually good at this point. I hate first tri!

Traveling tips: I keep it pretty simple. I pack healthy snacks, veggies, fruit, cheese, yogurt and I bring my iPad and so my workouts using Beachbody on Demand.

Have you developed any new workout plans with pregnancy?

I just made the switch from 21 Day Fix Extreme to the original 21 Day Fix. Less jumping but still great workouts.

challenges in getting to the gym this week? How will you overcome that?

I don't do the gym.... I have 3 little kids and yeah it would NEVER happen. I do all of my workouts at home.

GTKY: what non-baby event are you most looking forward to right now? I'm REALLY looking forward to dinner out tomorrow with my hubby sans kids for nye!

  • Thanks ladies!!! I love readings all of these tips. I will surely post questions stand alone from now on! Totally jealous of you all that workout from home... I can't get myself to do it at home I just want to lounge when I'm there ... Haven't found anything I love from home yet I guess!
  • For those of you doing the Beachbody workouts, I just finished P90X3 at the end of November and then was almost finished with one round of 21 day Fix Extreme and I found out I was pregnant. That last week kicked my butt! Since then I have still been trying to work out daily (using Beachbody on Demand) and have been playing around with different cardio, light weights, and Autumn's Active Maternity (1st trimester) workout.  I also just ordered PIYo, which is combination program of Yoga and Pilates. I really enjoy both Yoga and Pilates and I hope that it will be just right to use being pregnant! Going into my 6th week, I have noticed that I really lack motivation to do anything and have to modify the modifiers moves just to get through!

  • Im not fot at all but im stalking on here because I want to be. I track my steps daoly and do the treadmill and squats daily but I could not run to save my life!!
  • Running isn't really my thing either. I try to make it my thing sometimes but I always end up hating it. Much prefer weight lifting!
  • @texasmama2014 my running group almost has me convinced to train for a half. I did a full at the beginning of November but a lot has changed since then. I think a half could be doable... Apparently there is one in Fort Worth that is flat and fast.

@kjaneen I'm a BBG girl too! I'm still doing them twice a week. I'm doing weeks 1-6 right now to keep it a bit easier.

@LWC1112 Yaaay love the BBG family. BBG got me amazing results, I had been doing it for over a year. I also have done some Alexa Jean Fitness. (Did one of her butt/leg workouts last night... Booty is sore today!!!) She has some pregnancy friendly workouts and ebooks. I may try BBG wks 1-6 but w no timer. Just go though at my own pace. I'll know more of what I can do in gym once I see my doc.
  • @texasmama2014 yes I'm in Dallas. It is the Panther City half on March 13. Would give me a bit of time to train and if it didn't work out, there is also a 5k associated with it to switch too.

  • Hi all!  New to the board and would LOVE to join this group!  My DH and I are members at Lifetime Fitness, I've been going there and doing a lot of cardio and lifting.  Since I found out about #2, I'm not really sure if I need to change my routine or not.  I did Beachbody (actually a coach) 21 day fix...didn't mind it, but got bored with the DVD.  For those of you that go to the gym and workout, do you have a certain routine that you'd recommend?

    Thanks!

@SaraSchneider6  I also got bored with 21 day fix extreme, but I have found Autumn's maternity workouts on demand are pretty good! I'm giving PIYo a try in the next week, because I've heard good things! I'm also going to mix it in with some light lifting.

  • @LWC1112 I'm about an hour east. Sorry to be creepy! My husband has an office in Addison.
  • @SaraSchneider6 Yes, unfortunately only on demand and there are only 4 of them.  One for each trimester and one for after.  I just did the 30 day trial of on demand to see if I liked it enough to continue with it.  There are a lot of other programs available, so I've also just been mixing and matching different ones.

  • @SaraSchneider6 I purchased one from Jessie Hilgenberg it's called Jessie's girls prenatal edition. I love her... You can look her up on Instagram or Facebook or google her program. It was $80 BUT has everything you need including shopping list and help w figuring out calories and such! Definitely recommend it.
  • @tmk0325 @saam0815 Thanks!  The only issue I have is I'm looking for something more gym oriented.  I'm not a huge fan of DVD workouts, I get bored with them too easily since they are repetitive.

  • Just curious if any of you are dealing with extremely bad food aversions and nausaea? Mine seems to be lasting all day long and it's make it tough to eat let alone eat healthily. I've tried fizzy water...ginger ale...saltines...trying to have a small snack every 2 hours...nothing is helping. I read about vitamin b6 and alkaline water so just bought that to try. I'm still making it to the gym every other day but just feeling weak. Any advice is appreciated. This is my first pregnancy...just had our first ultrasound and am 7 weeks. I hear hopefully only 5 more weeks of all day sickness!
  • I haven't had that real bad but I've heard "preggie pops" are really good for that. I'm sure someone here can explain what they are and how to get them. Have you tried switching prenatal? My dr told me if I start to get really sick that many people get sick from too strong of a prenatal and to switch to gummies or chewables. A friend of mine did that and said it saved her and she wasn't sick again after switching!
