Monitoring with re ?

I'm wondering the standard monitoring REs do. With DS my ob did the iui so I did my beta then dating us then proceeded as a normal pregnancy. We moved and went with an RE this pregnancy and they want to do an ultrasound every week plus bloodwork. This just seems excessive to me. Believe I like checking in and seeing everything's alright but I don't want to be stressing about getting to the dr and exposing a developing brain to so many additional ultrasounds

Re: Monitoring with re ?

  • My RE does 2 betas (a couple more if necessary) and then an u/s at around 6w2d and another around 8 weeks. If everything looks good then you graduate to your OB/MFM. I don't think there is anything wrong with going every week but if you aren't comfortable can you ask to scale back? I've never heard any truth to the idea that too many ultrasounds are harmful. Although I haven't done much research on it.

  • There's no evidence that ultrasounds are damaging to an embryo's or fetus's development. We are monitoring every week as well until we "graduate" to my ob.

  • My RE does pretty much the same as previously stated. 2 (maybe more) betas, a US between 5-6 weeks, another at 8-9 weeks, and at 10 weeks I'm sent to an OB for the remainder of the pregnancy.

I have several friends who ended up with US every two weeks, never a problem.
  • Sorry I should have clarified that there is no evidence that ultrasound are damaging I personally just don't feel comfortable with it. I had 4 betas and an ultrasound already. I think I will go until I see the heartbeat and then transfer to my ob. Although it is tempting to peak in every week it just seems excessive to me
  • I had 2 betas and was offered a third. Which I did because our first number was so low. I go in at 6 and 8 weeks for ultrasounds then I am released.
  • My Re last time did 4 betas and ultrasound every week starting week 5. I think it really depends on your situation if you get a lot more. But having a very early ultrasound is normal.
