Overstaying guests.....

So my husband invited friends over to come see baby boy who is four weeks old. They show up around 9:30pm with a case of beer and their four year old who is loud and hyper. They're still here at 11:40pm. SERIOUSLY?!? I have a four week old and need to keep my semblance of a schedule. GO HOME!!!

I have retreated to my bedroom with my child and dogs to pump and go to bed.

  • Good. You can text or call DH and ask him if he's coming to sleep.

  • I would have done exactly what you did. Let your DH entertain as long as he wants (as long as they're quiet). I had a couple of people do that while I was still in the hospital. I couldn't retreat and was just past ready for them to go so I could sleep.

I do agree with pp concerning 4 year old. My 5 and 2 year old have a strict schedule. 9:30 bedtime is a treat they may get on the weekends. I would never drag one or both of them out that late.
  • DH was able to tell them to go home while I hid out. The deal with the four year old is that mom works night shift as a corrections officer and switches the kid to her schedule when he's not in school so she has more time with him. They're friends from high school and we basically catch up once a year or so because the husband rants to mine about his life.
  • Hah I know the feeling. I had a couple of close friends come visit but while we scheduled for 3p.m. (I told everyone visits cannot be after my husband gets home - he is overworked and stressed out) they showed up at nearing 6. And stayed until midnight. Eventually I just stopped talking and pretended to pass out to get them to leave.

Good for you for making your own space

Ugh! Sounds horrible. This is totally judgemental - but what 4 year old is still up at 9:30??? Or at least starting a visit at 9:30? Good for you for going to bed!
One good thing here? They're not averse to having their own kids so when they have their next one, return the favor. Bring a keg. And some drunk people. Make yourself at home.
