Blunt force?

This was pretty hard to search just because of the endless combinations of words I could try, do forgive me if this has been asked! I'm just looking for someone who has been through this. I was cleaning up my treatment room between patients and I went to put a box onto the counter. It's about the size of one of those risers you stack in a step class (best I could come up with!). So I overshot the location of this cabinet and walked straight into it with the box against my stomach. IT HURT! I immediately couldn't breathe and had to sit for a minute to catch my breath. Now I have been having period like cramps for the last hour. Left a voicemail at the midwives and am anxiously awaiting a return call...anyone ever get knocked pretty hard in the baby pocket?! (I am 11.3 for reference...)
Thanks!!

Re: Blunt force?

  • Ouch! I hope you hear back soon, but women survive all kinds of trauma throughout pregnancy and don't lose their babies. Our bodies are pretty tough. I think at most you are going to wind up with a brilliantly hued bruise!

  • A) thanks for using the search and no this hasn't been a thread so you probably wouldn't have found one.
    B) I think you did exactly what you should if you are concerned call the dr, nurse, midwive etc. but remember baby is tiny still and floating in a lovely water cushion. Lots of ligaments And muscles are stretching so that could be why you are cramping. This could be wrong and being aware of the cramps if they get worse or if you start to spot are all things to watch for but try to remain calm :)

  • I giggled at "baby pocket". For serious, I'm sure baby is okay.

  • I know when I was pregnant with DD (roughly 28ish weeks) I took a pretty good spill outside on the ice and landed square on my rump... not exactly the same thing, but DD was perfectly fine. Glad you called the midwife because I'm an advocate for always calling the doc. I am sure the baby is fine since they are pretty well protected in there. Sorry you went through this! Just try to relax a little (I know... much easier said than done)

  • Hope you're ok, and I'm sure baby is just fine.

But I think the term "baby pocket" is the high point of my day right now.
  • When I was pregnant with DD, I worked with some pretty physically aggressive kids. My OB said I was more likely to get hurt than the baby. Hope everything is ok but definitely good to call your doc.

  • I'm glad your back :) and so so happy to hear your midwife agreed. If you still feel crampy tomorrow it's ok to go in and get it checked! I also have an appointment on the 11th but just a regular one!

  • Loooove that movie!
  • Ahhhh thank you everyone. I love you all in so many different ways. The midwife called and said almost everything you all said (although, she didn't refer to my uterus as a 'baby pocket'? Huh? What kind of world is this?) She said if I was really worried I could go in tomorrow and have the heartbeat checked, but I'm going to just go to work and keep positive! I have an ultrasound January 11th, so I'm just going to truck along until then....p.s. I started WWIII a few weeks back about the lack of search function use, and way too many "not having any symptoms" posts. I didn't want to be a hypocrite ;) I've been quiet since then! IM BACK!

My kid loves this nonsensical movie. Ha!

@jlgriff11 I mean, I know you are joking, but you know damn well that a few people reading that are going to think it's true, right? ;)

    Well yeah, that's what's so fun. ;)
  • Glad you're reassured by the midwife.
  • hope all's well!
  • Glad you were reassured! I also fell down the stairs while pregnant and when I checked with my doctor he said that our body's are built to withstand some trauma and protect the baby. He said that it would essentially take the force of a baseball bat at full swing directly to the belly to risk causing trauma to the baby
  • My ex-husband kicked me across the room when I was 6 months pregnant and I had some bleeding but everything was fine. Our bodies were made to handle a lot....still not good to have blunt force I'm sure but just communicate everything with your midwife love. :)

Unfortunately, I stayed married to him for another few years. It wasn't until we lost our baby girl and I found out he had been cheating on me the whole time I was recovering from the c-section that I left him. He is a very evil human being.

  • @HRiely I'm so sorry to hear this, but glad you are no longer with this man.

The situation you described earlier (being kicked in the stomach) is exactly what led to my premature birth at 28 weeks. I was in the NICU for a long time and was suppose to have a whole bunch of problems. My biological parents were real winners.

Thankfully my parents (the people who raised me) were such amazing people and gave me the life they thought I deserved. I couldn't have picked better people myself!

I'm so glad you took the necessary steps and ended that relationship. I only hope the man you are with now treats you the way you should be treated!!
