Yes this is normal, that cyst is called the corpus luteum and it provides the baby with progesterone and some estrogen until the placenta is formed at around 10 weeks. It usually shrinks and goes away after the first trimester. The only reason I know this is because mine actually ruptured and caused some internal bleeding but apparently this is rare. Unless it's causing you pain, no need to worry about it.

I have one. They actually didn't even mention it to me because it's not a big deal in their (u/s tech and OB) minds. I learned of it through a different conversation.
If your doctor isn't concerned, then I wouldn't be.
I had my first ultrasound at 5w6d on Monday. I had a cyst on my right ovary as well. My doctor said it was very normal, and that it was producing progesterone.
Cysts naturally develop during pregnancy on the ovary from which the impregnated egg was released. It's one of the body's tricky ways of helping influence hormones at the start of a pregnancy. It's perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.
They usually go away on their own, and unless it's painful (which next to morning sickness and the regular pregnancy cramping is hard to tell...haha) I wouldn't worry about it.
I had one on my right ovary during my last pregnancy. My sonogram tech and OB both discussed it with me and sure enough, it was gone by my next sonogram.
I had one with my first two pregnancies, both went away on their own. They ruptured and it was painful, so much so I thought I was losing my first pregnancy. So just know if you end up with crippling pain but no bleeding, don't freak out too much, it's probably just the cyst rupturing.

@Stephanie7693 I had the same thing happen and it was the worst pain I've ever felt. I hope I never have to go through that again.
