Wishful thinking or is it possible?

I'm 13 weeks today and i swear there are moments i can feel the baby move. Just a flutter, sometimes a very small poke. Is it possible or in my head?

  • I dunno, are you a small person? It is possible to feel it as early as 10 weeks, though it's rare. Usually nothing till 18-20. However, I felt the same exact thing, like butterfly's fluttering in my tummy, or like when your eyelid twitches really fast. People told me it was gas but I've never felt gas like that before. When I described it to my cousin she told me that's exactly what it felt like for her when her first moved for the first time, so I suppose it's possible! I'm only 12 weeks and it was the same for me. It probably is wishful thinking on both of our parts, but since it's entirely possible I'm not ruling it out either!
  • Gas feels almost the exact same as those early kicks and punches.
  • I tend to doubt it. Are you a FTM? If so, I tend to doubt it even more.

  • I am 13w 2 days and I have the same flutters. I think my date is off about a week or so. I talked to my SIL. She has 4 kids....she thinks it is movement. I think it's movement and it makes me happy!! Enjoy!
Remember no pregnancy is the same!!!
  • @babylewis16 just because they aren't a ftm doesn't mean they know what they're talking about (sorry!) My sister has 3 kids and swears she felt the last at 6 weeks......

I'm sure you did the queen of all eye rolls. Because that's ridiculous.

As for baby kicks at 13 weeks.... It's possible. As unlikely as it is. I weigh about 103lbs. (Not right now obviously... hello Christmas goodies...) And after I knew what to look for having had a baby before, I did feel my next two between 12 and 13 weeks. But it did NOT feel like a poke. It's more like if you've ever held goldfish in a bag and you feel them brush against the outside. IMO. Also, my uterus is tilted. So these things can play a role. But wait a few weeks. Then look back and see if you were right or if it was gas. If it was gas, you don't want to be the person who was geeking out about it.
  • @MotherOfDucks oh yeah. Luckily she told me this while on the phone and couldn't see the massive eye roll.
  • I'm 13 weeks tomorrow and I just felt those same "goldfish in a bag" mini tickles. It didn't feel like gas to me. I'd think that it would be muscle spasms before anything else.
  • I am 13w 5d and I felt the same butterflies in my bottom abdomen yesterday. I only get them when I'm pregnant. I'm sure it's the baby. Happy preggies
  • I thought I felt something last week when I was 10+5 or so, but thought there was no way I was feeling it that early so I looked it up. It looks like the earliest (based on my quick research) that you should be able to feel movement is about 13 weeks (which is also very rare but apparently possible). So my little flutters were obviously just muscle spasms or gas bubbles or something. It was fun in the moment to pretend it was baby kicks, but the reality is that it's just too early to be feeling anything.

Baby movement is pretty much the only thing I genuinely enjoy about pregnancy. Despite being grateful that I am having another baby, I have physically difficult pregnancies and due to issues in my last pregnancy I am finding this one somewhat emotionally difficult/stressful too. I think I just really, really want to start feeling the movements to connect to this pregnancy more, and my hopes let my imagination get a bit out of control!
  • It is probably more than likely gas, however, if this is your 2nd, etc. pregnancy I know you can feel movement sooner.

  • This is my first. But the little flutters don't feel like gas or muscle spasms usually do. At this point, it probably is just wishful thinking. Oh well, guess I'll have to wait and see. Thanks lovelies.
  • I'm 13+4 and feel them now and then too. It's probably just gas/wishful thinking, but you never know. Just enjoy it.
  • I felt my first baby at 15 weeks and my 2nd at 13 weeks. Some people just feel them early. There is a definite difference between gas and the baby and to me it was easy to tell. So you never know.

  • I don't know all the science, but I know there's a lot going on in there right now, like organs moving and muscles adjusting, etc. I keep feeling flutters, but I think they're much too high to be baby. The US tech found baby a few inches below my belly button, but I'm feeling flutters a bit higher than that. I just figure it's pregnancy working it's magic rearranging my insides. :)

I've felt some flutters, but that was around 11 weeks or so. I'm 14 now, but at last weeks ultrasound I saw the dragon doing flips and jumping all over the place but felt nothing. So from that I'm chalking it up to gas. But who knows, it could be possible but I wouldn't think it's likely as they're still so itty bitty.
