Any of you beautiful mothers cop a nice 3rd degree tear from giving birth? My baby was born two weeks ago and I am still in a lot of discomfort and pain... I'm wondering when does the pain and sensitivity stop?
Hang in there! I had a 3rd degree tear in August 2013 with DS and I'm here about to have another vaginal delivery in the next few days (hopefully). I had good pain meds and I don't actually remember the pain lasting beyond the first 10 days to be honest. I do remember I had a bath each night with tea tree oil and I felt like that helped. I shared my story with a lady from the April BMB earlier this year and she said her tear was still very sensitive. She had it checked a few days later and it turns out part it had become infected. So it's definitely worth getting checked out by your doctor just in case it's not healing well. Hopefully someone here will have a more recent experience to share, but I just wanted to reassure you that things do get back to 'normal' after some time :-)
I tore pretty badly and had an episiotomy. I was still sore at times up until 2.5-3 weeks PP. I just told H last night I finally hadn't had any soreness in a few days and I'm feeling normal now. I'll be 4 weeks PP tomorrow.
I noticed the sensitivity was worse when I was on my feet for a while or if I sat for long periods of time. So I tried to avoid that if I could.
I had a 3rd degree tear too, I'm 2weeks pp today also and my stitches are feeling okay, they still sometimes give me pain if I sit in a funny position but mostly they just itch now, I get more pain from my hemorrhoids at the moment. I still haven't looked at my stitches, I'm too much of a wimp but the midwife visits every few days to check them and she says they are healing nicely, when the itching becomes unbearable I soak them in a warm bath and this helps.

I tore and had an episiotomy as well. I also have other cuts that were not stitched because it would have taken longer to heal (DS had to be pulled with forceps). I am 13 days PP. I am still in a lot of pain, mostly when I stand or sit for a long period of time as well. I lay down on my back with my legs spread open. If I sleep on my side, it hurts a lot when I get out of bed. I went in last week to see my ob because the pain was unbearable and luckily, I am healing and there are no signs of infection. DH installed a hand held shower and I rinse with warm water about 3 to 5 times a day. I cannot wait for the day when I can feel normal again and don't have to sit on a donut.
I delivered 11-10 and had an episiotomy and still had a grade 4 tear. Those stitches in my butt have not felt good. Been on stool softeners since delivery-that was a scary bathroom trip! It's been 19 days, and things are getting better. I can tell you that sitting in a hot bath twice a day for 15 minutes before I showered has helped me a lot! Good luck ladies-hope we get back to normal soon, but totally worth it!
I got a lovely 3rd degree, 2nd degree, and a tear by my clitoris apparently. 12 days PP and I'm no longer on the percocet (mainly because I'm out ) so I started taking Tylenol when I get sore or anything. It's definitely manageable pain most days, just some serious aching. I think i got that from over doing it on days i feel better.
Misery loves company! My doctor had to vacuum assist my baby due to his large head and unfavorable position. Afterwards he told me I had a 4th degree tear, although my husband said he watched the doctor slice me. I'm 4 days PP and the pain is ok, I was very nervous to go to the bathroom but thankfully it was not bad. I have been using a squirt bottle with warm water after each trip to the bathroom and an cooling spray the hospital have me as well as Ibprofen. Anyone have another vaginal birth after a large tear or cut? I'm very concerned about what will happen if I have another child in the future?

I am hoping to achieve another vaginal birth any day now following my 3rd degree tear in 2013. I'm very keen to avoid an epidural as I could not feel any urge to push with DS and I ended up with a forceps delivery with episiotomy and tear. I'm also hoping to have a water birth, as the warm water should help my skin to stretch as I push the baby out. I'm feeling positive about my birth plan and I have worked hard to prepare for this baby's birth, although I fully accept that plans can change in a heartbeat when it comes to childbirth and my water birth is not guaranteed. I'll post here again when I've had my baby and let you know how it went
I didn't tear on my own, I was given an episiotomy (3rd degree) so I'm sure my recovery was a little easier. What really helped me, though, was frozen diapers as ice packs and a doughnut seat! Oh and pain medicine while I slept. Also, stock up on stool softener. I was sore for about 2 weeks and those things were my life! Hope you feel better!
2nd degree tear here I am 2 weeks postpartum and feel a bit better. Discomfort if I over do it at home or walking around. Hang in there hopefully it'll get better soon. A warm bath can help in more ways than one!
2 weeks PP and had a third degree tear due to forceps delivery. I remember him saying it was close to s fourth degree. He also tore my cervix. I stopped pain meds days ago but it's still uncomfortable to sit. Sometimes it feels dry like the stitches are pulling. There's a constant lump feeling or pressure like I'm sitting in a rock. I see my ob tues and I'm hoping everything looks good. Epsom salt baths help.
Question for mommies who are more post-Partum than me- Did the doctors give you a script for Percocet when you left the hospital or were you only given Percocet at the hospital? I was discharged today and honestly every day I've felt progressively worse. I was getting Percocet at the hospital but the nurse said since I don't have a script, to take Tylenol. Well let me tell you, that does absolutely nothing. Even the Percocet only took the edge off. I am in so much pain (3rd degree episiotomy, some minor tearing and a huge hemoroid- yay). I'm not sure if I should call me OB and see if they can give me a script? I'm glad to read some of your stories because I feel like this will never get better!!

Give them a call. You shouldn't be suffering. I was given an Rx for Motrin 600 but I only had a 2nd degree tear.

While you're waiting to get a script, at least start taking Motrin/Advil/ibuprofen. You can take up to 600mg (three 200mg pills) every 4 hours. It's better for inflammation than Tylenol.
I had an episiotomy. The tucks pads are a godsend. The stitches are starting to get a little itchy so I'm taking that as a good sign! I'm on regular Motrin and take 3 at a time, a few times a day, to take the edge off.
I had a 4th degree in 2013. Cooling tucks pads were amazing. Lots of dermoplast!!! That stuff is a miracle! The hospital sent me home with hydrocortisone for itching. Keep up with stool softners. Around 3.5 wk PP I started to feel human down there again.
I also second dermoplast and tucks pads. And take a NB diaper and fill it with ice and then close it up with the tabs and put in on top of your pad. The diaper will soak of the ice as it melts and you'll get a nice cold soothing feeling. Feels weird to walk around with but sitting is great.
2nd degree so not as bad but wound opened up and had to get re stitched in office yesterday. The joy is never ending! If I could buy one of those " I love miralax" tees like in the ads I would!
How are you ladies recovering? I am 6 weeks PP and still in pain. I am taking ibuprofen every 6 hours. I have been to the doctor twice since giving birth due to the pain. The doctor said it's still healing and should take at least another month or 2. I am going to see my doctor for my 6 week check up this week.

I'm 4 weeks PP and still in pain. I take ibuprofen occasionally but I've just kind of learned to deal with it. My OB said no sex for another month or two so I guess healing is taking a while. I still have a lot of stitches that haven't come out
