Fitness: Still getting back into shape from baby #1.

Hi! I am 5 weeks pregnant with our second, our daughter is 9 months old. I have been in a pretty intensive weight training/circut training program where I meet with a trainer 3x a week for 30 minutes for 5 months and have been seeing good results... I suspect I have gained quite a bit of muscle... But still am 10 lbs heavier than my baby #1 starting weight... I literally just had fit into my pre-baby jeans the week I found out we were expecting.
Is anyone else in this boat? I'd like to continue to lose fat & gain muscle throughout this pregnancy... :)

  • Great job!  My goal was to get more muscle tone back before this baby but surprise!  So I'm just really focusing on watching what I eat and trying to stay as active as possible.  I will try to break out the yoga and low weights when I have time.

  • In a similar boat!! DD1 is 21 months. I gained around 60ish pounds with her. I also started that pregnancy about 10lbs heavier then my goal weight. I lost about 50lbs after having her- then we moved and I started diet yo-yoing & was gaining/losing the same 10lbs. I started this pregnancy about 15lbs more then I wanted (about an additional 5lbs over the 10lbs I started the 1st pregnancy!).  I've always struggled with my weight- believe it or not, I am a fitness instructor and personal trainer. But, weight has always been tough for me. I teach 18-20 classes a week and burn over 1,000 calories a day on average and yet I still struggle!! My strength and endurance is great though. I am going to have to back off some of my higher intenstity classes but I am thinking of trying to count my calories through this pregnancy to try and not gain as much (will ask Dr what daily caloric needs are).
So, I figure if I don't gain as much maybe I can even it out in the end! This is  probably our last child so after this one comes- it is all about me finally getting to goal and staying there!

  • I wasn't previously trying to lose weight but I do love staying fit so that's still a major personal goal of mine throughout the pregnancy. My dr told me basically to aim for maintenance rather than bulk (boring)... How are you feeling so far ??
  • I was finally back to my pre-pregnancy weight about 6 months ago. I gained 40-45 lbs with DD and I'm trying to only gain 30-35 this time around. There was a stubborn 15 lbs of extra weight that took the longest to get rid of. Mainly I am sticking to my moderate exercise routine and just trying not to eat as much as I did with my first pregnancy. I pretty much ate whatever I wanted whenever I wanted thinking it was fine because I was "eating for two", which really isn't the case until 2nd or 3rd trimester.

Here's a link I found about the caloric needs by trimester

  • I'm in the same boat. My first is just over two and I was finally within a few pounds of my pre-pregnancy weight. I'm hoping to only gain about 20 to 25 this time instead of 30 and maybe it won't be as bad after? I run and also do Kayla Itsines workouts which are 30 minute HIIT intervals. Going to try and keep it up for as

  • I was working to get back to my pre 2 baby weight and was basically there but the ups and downs of trying for #3 took its toll stress wise (and moving in with my parents for 3 months while we waited to close on our new house!) And i gained some back.. So im back up 7 from my pre dd1 weight.  But My goal is just to keep it to what I "need" to gain as opposed to what my body tells me to gain lol.. Both pregnancies I gained in the ball park of just at or under 40lbs.. that stuff doesnt just all fall off after! Although I like to say its bc i carried both to 42 weeks ;-)  Either way moderation is the keyword this pregnancy!

  • DS was 12 months old when I got pregnant with this little one so I understand the struggle! I gained about 35 lbs with him and ran my whole pregnancy. This pregnancy I going to lift like I did to lose my baby weight.

I asked my dr. About lifting while pregnant and he really just cautioned against lifting a lot of weight over head. Seems like everything else is ok to do from his perspective which was comforting. I don't want to lose what I've gained either!

I think if you continue with consistent lifting and sensible eating you should be fine! If you want accountability let me know! I can always use more too!'
