Pregnancy Anger

Is anyone else dealing with pregnancy anger? I'm 15 weeks and I thought it would start to subside after the first tri but it's not! I'm really worried this is a sign I'm
Going to get PPD again (even though I didn't have pregnancy anger with my first). Any tips on helping it go away??? TIA

Re: Pregnancy Anger

  • I too am having a lot of anger (in fact, I was about to start this exact thread). I tried to go off of my anti-depressant and mid-ween I realized my anger level had grown exponentially. It actually scared me a lot. Today I went off on a friend about all of my pregnancy frustrations and I sounded like a bitter, angry old lady. Needless to say, I've decided that I cannot cannot cannot go off of my mild dose of ssri.
Hugs to you @TwoBadMice - I'm right there with you.

Do you mind if I ask, what is ssri? I haven't been on anything since by bought with PPD over a year ago but I feel like I have that uncontrollable anger again. I've been thinking about talking to my doctor about getting on something but I don't know how much of this is "normal pregnant with a toddler" emotions because I was not like this during my first pregnancy.
  • I had this too, but it was *mostly* in my first tri. I'm 17+5 today, and it's subsiding quite a bit, but definitely bring it up if it continues to be a problem and you have a history of depression!
  • I don't necessarily have pregancy anger persay, just absolutely no tolerance for stupid! I swear my daughter is going to be one snarky little b* if I don't keep my sarcasm to myself lol somewhere in the first tri I lost all my patience for nonsense and haven't found it again... oh well!
  • I wouldn't call it "anger" for me, but I definitely have a much shorter fuse before I lose my filter and give people a piece of my mind. My tolerance for stupid is also at an all time low like @susiec923 said. I've just taken to walking away when I feel my tolerance waning to avoid saying something rash.
  • I've been everything thus far at 17weeks two days. Short fused, depressed, anxious, wanting to have a glass of wine while watching everyone else drink and have fun around me. I have to walk away. I just don't feel like I am me. I am but only like 20% if that makes sense. It's kind of ruining the whole experience for me. I love my baby but can't wait until i can be me again. Just five super long months to go. Hurry hurry June 4th. Anyone else feel this way?
  • Oh girl! Me too! I want to kill everyone.
  • I call it the PREGNANTHULKSMASH.  My fuse is much shorter as others have said.  Lasted my whole pregnancy last time and is here again this time.  I will say that for me, all of my emotions are heightened during pregnancy, but I notice the rage more because no one wants to be a ragey monster.  I also get all dopey in love with my husband at times.  I take the bad with the good.

  • @TwoBadMice SSRI's are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, a class of anti-depressants. I've been on Lexapro (an ssri) for 5+ years. There's a new study out (albeit flawed in many ways) that links SSRIs to autism, so of course my doctor was again pressuring me to go off.

DH has been warning me that DD is going to have such a smart mouth.  This morning, she decided that she wanted to start throwing fits and whining about everything.  I'm trying to give her extra slack with the whining and clinginess because I don't want to go completely off on her.

  • Okay thank God it's not just me thank you so much ladies!! I was really feeling down yesterday. And homocidal.
  • Totally not alone. This week I feel much better ms/exhaustion wise, and more like myself but with a extra special layer of what my DH calls 'hulksmash!' (@lilwatz too funny you use it too!)

I find a lot of the same as pp: intolerant to the max and tend to snap at things I might have let go before. Especially unsolicited advice. Don't give me advice. And don't repeat the advice. I will 100% rip your freaking head off then look around and go 'oh did I do that?' With wide blinking eyes. Actually, just don't talk, or breathe. Never mind your existence annoys me, all of you.
  • As an HR professional, its my job to handle employees who exhibit all sorts of questionable behaviors/ misconduct etc. I find it nearly impossible to not just flip out on them recently... last week one particular repeat offender got his head handed to him because I cannot tolerate the complete ignorance and immaturity he was exhibiting... was it my finest moment? No, but it sure felt good - and I'd do it again.
