Baby bronchitis

I can't handle seeing him like this. He's crying so hard that he has broken blood vessels all over his face and he's choking. My son is not a cryer so this is brutal for me to watch. Daddy has him in the bathroom right now breathing in the hot shower steam and I'm sitting here crying. He's been sick before but nothing like this. This. Is. Tough. Is it bad that I just want my mom? :'(

  • Poor Noah!! My son always always got croup and brichiolitis. It's the worst. I know how you feel! Nothing worse than not being able to take away your babies pain!
We have a thing here called vicks vapour rub or eukybear-rub. Basically a ukalyptus rub that you normally put on your chest. Get the children's strength one and rub some on his feet and then put socks on! Old wives tale but it's magic!!
    Good luck Noah and mama!
    Sending love from Australia!
  • Awww poor baby. I'm so sorry! I hope Noah gets well fast. Sending a hug to you too mama.

Thank you ladies. I'm heartbroken that I can't fix this for him. This is just terrible
  • I'm so sorry :( we are just getting over croup over here. Hope your little one feels better soon!

Sometimes the cold air can help too. Maybe take him into the cold garage for a few minutes?
  • Awww poor little man! It breaks my heart for your!
  • The doctor just called and they said he tested positive for RSV...ugh
  • So sorry to hear little Noah isn't feeling good! Sorry mama!
  • Is there anything special they do for the rsv? I second the chest rub. It has seemed to really help my little guy. The one I use is from target in the baby section. It's called Matty's all natural chest rub. Put it in his chest and feet as often as you want. It has chamomile and lavender that I swear helped my LO sleep better. I hope he gets to feeling much better soon!

The doctor didn't mention using any chest rub but I think I'm going to ask. All she said to do is keep clearing out his nose, keep him elevated and to now that it's RSV we have to do saline nebulizer treatments and keep a close eye on him. I go back in 48 hours. My son is just not a crier so the fact he is inconsolable means he's really suffering and I just can't take it. My poor baby. Has anyone else gone through RSV and know how long until they start to feel better?
  • So sorry to hear @chelseajeanene. What are his symptoms and how do you think he got it? Is he wheezing is that why the nebulizer? Hope he feels better soon!

I am SO sorry! I would be heartbroken if my little guy was going through that :(

My friend's little 3-month-old just had RSV two weeks ago. She ended up in the hospital with low oxygen levels and dehydration because she wasn't eating enough, then needed oxygen and deep suction at the hospital. She was there 4 days, but seemed to recover fairly quickly in the hospital and was much better once she returned home. She only exhibited cold symptoms at first so her mom had no idea until she stopped eating and she took her in to get checked. She was fully recovered within maybe a week?

Hope he gets better soon, poor guy! Seems like that crap (along with everything else) is going around :( I've basically quarantined my little guy until spring and ask everyone before we come visit if they have colds or are sick. I know I look like the overprotective, germaphobe mom, but I really don't care! ;)
  • My little girl got diagnosed with RSV last Tuesday. We've been doing the nebulizer treatments since then, and have seen a great improvement. Fortunately for us though, she was never fussy with her congestion or had a fever.
She screamed for the first treatment, and cried a little less each time. Now she smiles and talks through it, and when I do one in the middle of the night she sleeps during the treatment.
Mickey Mouse club house on the iPad was a great distraction when she would fuss at the initial treatments.
Let me know if you have any questions. I know it's difficult to see you little one sick, but the treatments do help! Hoping for a quick recovery!

I think he got sick on Christmas Eve when we went to mass. The family we went with has a little girl and she had a pretty bad cough and he we were sitting next to her for a little while, but by the time I realized she has the cough he had already been exposed :/ his symptoms are a terrible wet cough, stuffy and runny nose with wheezing. He's very fussy too but it's understandable. The wheezing is why they have the nebulizer treatment but saline is jus salt water so it's not technically medication so I feel okay about it. They gave him a medicated treatment in office though and I'm not sure what will happen when I take him back

That happened to my friends little girl but she was only 2 month and it turned into pneumonia so I'm very fearful it could turn for the worst for my LO but I'm keeping a very close eye on him
  • @klpie poor baby! He hasn't developed a fever yet so I'm thankful for that and he doesn't mind the treatments so it's not too bad to give to him. He just slept through the last one. You're lucky you LO wasn't fussy because I've never seen my son like this, it's terrible
  • Oh that picture makes me so sad! Thoughts & prayers headed your way, hope he feels better soon!
  • My LO just got over bronchiolitis caused by a cold. When he was inconsolable from coughing and throwing up mucous, I took him in the shower itself with me. Skin to skin is like heaven for babies, and the steam helped loosen all the chest crud up. I used some Baby Vick's on his chest. I think the massage comforted him and it smells good!
  • Awe your poor little guy! I don't have any advice, it seems like you got lots of help from PP's. I just wanted to say I hope he gets better soon. It's awful as a mama to feel so helpless, stay strong, you are doing great!
  • Oh sad baby. Hope this passes quickly. Have you seen any improvement?
  • When he's awake there's no improvement but when he's sleeping he's calm and peaceful. I normally don't let him stay in the swing for long but I know he's elevated in it and he's been calmly sleeping for a few hours so I just keep starring at him and making sure he's okay. It's helping a lot
  • Along with the Vicks, there's also a DoTerra mix called "Breathe" that I used. I got a sample from a friend and massged it on his feet and on my neck so he breathes it in. I thought it worked well when LO was stuffy.

    Stay strong, Momma!
  • I didn't read all the comments but I hope Noah is feeling better!!!!! That picture hurts my heart. Hugs for you both!
  • My LO had a cold when he was just two weeks old - he had the worst stuffy nose evIt's Mye was suffocating, could not sleep and was freaking out - and I was crying because I felt so helpless. Thats when we started co sleeping - I never wanted to do that but I would prop him up on my pillow with my arm underneath, so whenever he would start having problems breathing I would put my arm up and elevate him more.
Needless to say I listened to every single breath and was afraid to fall asleep. It's an awful thing to go through....
But he'll get better and come out stronger in the end!! You guys are doing great - doing all the right things... the hardest thing is waiting :*(
  • @TahoeAugust that's what I've been doing too. I haven't slept without him in days and I just stay awake listening to him. Last night I got barely 3 hours because I was so afraid. I was honestly about to take him to the hospital but his doctor called and asked me to bring him in which was nice. They gave him another treatment because he's trying so hard to breathe..but he's still smiling. I have to do a nebulizer every 4 hours and give him pedialite and then take him back to the doctor in the AM. I'm so exhausted and so afraid to sleep that I've been crying and having a panic attack all day but the doctor told me to just go with my gut and if I feel something isn't right then just call an ambulance. He's sleeping on me now and I'm going to try and rest
  • I don't have any advice but I hope he's feeling better soon! Looking that his little picture makes me want to cry
  • Prayers he gets better soon!! It's so scary having a newborn during cold/flu season!
  • Oh sorry. I hope he gets better soon! I can't imagine. Just looking at that picture makes me feel so bad for him and you! Hugs.
  • So sorry to hear he is sick! I don't have much advice but when my girl was really congested the ped told us to make sure she sleeps elevated. (A pp could have mentioned that).

I hope he gets better soon! Hugs to you and your boy!
  • I do have his crib elevated but I'm more comfortable with him sleeping with me. I wish j wasn't so sleep deprived because I can't stop crying when I see him struggling to breathe. Ugh. I hate this, thanks for all the kind words ladies, it really makes me feel good. I pray non of your LO's have to deal with this
  • Oh man! That sucks. Poor little guy. I hope he feels better soon. Sending hugs yours way.

  • I needed this so bad today
  • He's been to the doctor every day this week and the pediatrican wants to see him again tomorrow. He had to have 2 treatments in office and she ended up giving us the dosage amount for 6 month olds. This is throwing me right back into PPD
