Trying to Get Pregnant

TTC after Mirena

Hi, all!
I just had my Mirena taken out on December 16th and we are TTC.  I know that everyone's experience is different, but just wondering what your experience was with getting pregnant after Mirena removal: immediate, a month or two, longer, miscarriages?
Also, seeing as I just joined, if someone could fill me in on some of the plethora of acronyms floating around, that would be amazing!

Thank you!

Re: TTC after Mirena

  • Welcome! I've never used Mirena so have no advice there. I just wanted to point out that most of us on this board have never been pregnant. You might have more luck on the first tri board of you're looking for BFPS after mirena removal stories. Also, there's a newbie thread pinned to the top that explains all of the acronyms.
Good luck, hope your stay here is short!

The newbie threads are super helpful. I recommend reading those and lurking a bit. Feel free to jump into the WTO and TWW threads, that's where we ask most of our questions, rant/rave/chart stalk, etc. :)

Welcome. I ditto the suggestion to ask this on the First Tri board. Also, bear in mind that the experience of others will have no bearing on yours.
  • Welcome and congrats on TTC! Mirena has a hormonal component and it can take several cycles to regulate after having it removed. This is a great place to learn if you're looking to maximize good timing for sex around ovulation. Keep in mind it can take a healthy couple up to a year of well-timed sex to get pregnant, and that's normal. I definitely recommend temping (the only way to confirm ovulation). I am 6 months off of Mirena and I've had 5 long cycles, only two of which I had confirmed ovulation. Temping has curbed the crazy and when I ovulated late this cycle, I knew and was able to look for and hit a second fertility window. Good luck to you!

  • I am on cycle 3 after Mirena removal. Nothing really crazy is going on. Except, this month I'm not sure on my exact O date, but it's happened...and now I'm just in the Two Week Wait (TWW). I never realized how much went into TTC until we started REALLY trying, and it's a lot, but sooo worth it! I temp as well, every morning at 630. My body is all wonky because of cystic fibrosis...but it didn't take me too long to get back on schedule! Good luck!
  • I just had my Mirena removed yesterday and am trying for #3. I didn't have an IUD prior to my previous pregnancies so I don't have any advice but just wanted to stay good luck!
