I know it's very early for all of us. I just thought this would be a fun discussion and to see others point of view on this subject.
I keep flip flopping but originally I wanted to wait until 2nd trimester. I have always been told to not announce until 12/14 weeks just in case but I don't know if I or DH will be able to hold out until then!
Who was the first person you told? My DH. I tested very early in the AM and ran upstairs and woke him up.
When do you plan to announce? Originally 12/14 weeks, Now I am thinking 8/9 or whenever we have the first ultrasound done.
If your employed when do you plan to tell Boss/coworkers? This is tricky. My coworker is currently 8 weeks herself. I dont know how my boss will take the news that another is preggo.
How do you plan to announce? I am wanting to do something fun and creative. Pinterest, google, and instagram stalking for ideas.
Re: When are you planning to announce?
Dh! I called him crying!!
When do I plan to announce? We've told our parents but plan to tell everyone else, including our 4yr old, after my 8week scan... Which should be the last week of January. Won't announce on Facebook until second tri!
Employment? I'm a stay at home mom but also run a small in-home daycare. I watch for two families, one of which who has become a best friend. She knows but the other family does not.
How will I announce? I'm not sure! I have a picture in mind but haven't decided!
Who was the first person you told?
DH. I tested without him knowing on Christmas Eve and wrote him a nice card for Christmas day that revealed the big news
When do you plan to announce?
I already told my mom and best friend. Other then that I think I will wait for 12 weeks to tell my in-laws and for our gender reveal to tell the rest of our friends.
If you're employed when do you plan to tell Boss/coworkers?
I plan on telling my co-worker soon as she was with me when I experienced my miscarriage. Everyone else (school staff) doesn't have to know until second trimester. I am not sure when to tell my boss...I'll have to tell her about the appointments I have which will entail me missing work but idk if I want to give her the details of "why" yet. I will play it by ear.
How do you plan to announce?
I will do something sweet for my in-laws. Like a note at the end of dinner brought by our waiter or giving them something grandparent. The rest of our friends we are sending out invites for our gender reveal. They'll find out then! I want to do Sprinkles cupcakes with either blue or pink filling. I don't have to risk anyone finding out early since we live in NorCal and our family/friends are in SoCal.
When do you plan to announce? Probably after my first ultrasound, depending on how early that ends up being. Not before 8 weeks I would say.
How do you plan to announce? I have a few cute ideas in mind. Probably some sort of creative picture involving my kids with big brother/sister shirts on.
Who was the first person you told? My DH. I wanted to surprise him on Xmas Eve but I couldn't tell if the faint line I saw was there or not! Ha! We bought 3 more tests and took them all, 3 BFP!
When do you plan to announce? I went in for bloodwork today and will get my hcg/progesterone counts in the AM. If all looks good we're planning to tell family on New Years Eve. We probably won't announce on FB or tell friends until close to 20 weeks. But I do have the idea to have a gender reveal party at our house and have a baby outfit wrapped from my favorite boutique that we will open if front of everyone that will either be boy or girl colors.
If your employed when do you plan to tell Boss/coworkers? During 2nd trimester
How do you plan to announce? No clue! But something Valentines or Easter themed would be cute. And using my son with a Big Brother something on
Who was the first person you told? DH. I tested Wednesday morning without telling him, and immediately went to my RE for blood work. As soon as they called me that evening I told him. I actually told my dentist that I COULD be pregnant that morning so that we skipped x-rays.
When do you plan to announce? My best friend at about 7 weeks, and parents/siblings/other close friends around 10.
If you're employed when do you plan to tell Boss/coworkers? Probably right around 12 weeks. My boss is great and I know he'll be happy for me. I'll be out for most of budget season though, so that should be fun for everyone else!
How do you plan to announce? No idea! We're thinking something valentines related for our parents. Maybe a picture frame hidden/wrapped in a box of chocolates.
When do you plan to announce? After the first ultrasound at 8 weeks.
If you're employed when do you plan to tell Boss/coworkers? Going to hold out as long as I can. Maybe end of March/April.
How do you plan to announce? Will probably tell my sister via a pic of the ultrasound after we get done as me and her are really close and I want her to be the first to know. Will have to Skype DH's mother to tell her but I am unsure how we will tell my parents.
BFP #2 12/22/15, EDD 9/1/16
When do you plan to announce? Not until we're out of the first trimester for family and then not until way later on social media. We had 2 early losses this summer and just want to wait a bit.
SAHM so my boss is our 2.5 year old and she's fine with it!
How do you plan to announce? I've been planning for awhile of getting some bottle cap hair bows made to put in my daughter's hair, one saying "big" and the other "sister"! I always have her hair done up and everyone always likes looking at it and what she has in it, I think it'd be a cute little surprise! I also bought a "big sister" t-shirt just before we had our first loss so I think I'll put her in that and take a picture to send to the extended family!
We told our families on Christmas Eve. We go back and forth when to officially announce. DW wants to wait until 2nd trimester. Part of me wants to do it sooner since I know I'd need support if anything happened, but I respect her wishes
I'm a sahm
For my family I asked my mom to dress DS on Christmas and handed her a big brother shirt. For dws family we had calendars already made as presents and circled the due date. As for sm I'm not sure we did a cute travel theme for DS we might do again
We already told our best friends, but don't plan on telling anyone else until our 8 week appt. Will probably do a cute FB announcement around Valentine's Day.
I could tell my boss now or wait. He's super supportive so will be happy no matter what!
Who was the first person you told? I told DD because she was standing there all curious while I POAS. She didn't understand why I was crying and happy at the same time. I wrapped the test and gave it to DH to open as soon as he got home.
When do you plan to announce? We already told our families over Christmas, and we've told a select few friends. Will wait until February to announce to the public (aka FB)
If your employed when do you plan to tell Boss/coworkers? I'm a sahm
How do you plan to announce? We wrapped a onesie for my dad to open on Christmas day in front of the family and we just announced it at the dinner table on Christmas eve with his family. Will probably do some ridiculously cute Valentine's day announcement on FB and incorporate DD's new big sister status.
When do I plan to announce: I am not sure when I'm going to announce it to my mother and father and in-laws. I will probably wait another four weeks if I can hold out.
When do I plan to tell my boss: I'm a teacher so I technically don't have to give them that much notice maybe a month or two in advance. But since I work in a school, word gets around fast. All I need to do is tell one person and the entire school would know by the end of the day. I will probably wait to tell people at work until I am in my second trimester.
I'm not sure how I plan to announce. The biggest announcement for me would be telling my mom & dad. This is my second baby, so I'm not sure it would be that much of a big deal for them. One idea is to bring my son around one day and have him wear one of those outfits that say future big brother or something like that.
After I took the test I called my husband right away! I sent him a picture of the positive test and told him to look, he was really happy.
When do you plan to announce?
When we feel comfortable that we are not going to lose this pregnancy, so at least after we hear a heartbeat I will feel better but we will probably wait a few weeks before telling everyone.
I only told my sisters so far. But they understand that it is very early.
How do you plan to announce?
Not sure yet. I will think of ideas when we feel more confident about the pregnancy, it is hard to get too exited for now. But we will for sure want to do something cute
PCOS, Hypothyroidism.
Miscarriage at 8 weeks
First saw
It's a boy!
Who was the first person you told? My DH. then all my mom friends from s'13
When do you plan to announce? after our first u/s 1/13
If your employed when do you plan to tell Boss/coworkers? I'm a pastor and word spreads quickly through churches because of morning sickness some of the staff is already onto me
How do you plan to announce? Probably something about moving from man to man to zone coverage since this is our third
Mom to Cam and Al, now expecting baby number 3, August 2016. Praying for lots of sticky baby dust!
When do you plan to announce?
Last time we told family and close friends at 10 weeks and announced at 12 weeks. We will probably do something similar this time.
If your employed when do you plan to tell Boss/coworkers?
I will hold out as long as possible this time. I told my boss at 10 weeks last time because I didn't know the HR process. This time I will basically try to keep it under wraps until I'm showing too much to deny it.
How do you plan to announce?
I'm very curious to see what EDD the midwives will give me (LMP vs O date) but either way it will be on or very near DS's birthday so I'm thinking some sort of photo collage "DS face when he found out he's going to be a big brother; DS's face when he found out he might have to share his birthday"
When do you plan to announce?
Never? Close friends and family know already.... Facebook can figure it out
If your employed when do you plan to tell Boss/coworkers?
I'm a SAHM.
Plans to announce? After our appointment at 9 weeks, with some big sister shirts for the family. It's funny to see how observant everyone is. And second TRI for fb I have a cute picture idea.
I'm SAHM so no boss to tell. But after our appointment at 9 weeks I won't consider is not a secret and I'll tell people/friends as I see them. I'm sure it will be hard to hide by then. This is my 3rd and the bloat is insane already.
Who was the first person you told?
My friend lol. I took a test late at night while DH was at work and there was a very faint line, so I texted it to my friend to see what she thought. Went to the store to get a better test and told DH first thing in the morning!
When do you plan to announce?
I've already told my parents, and DH is going to tell his friend soon. I plan on telling the rest of the family after my first US, then Ill make it official on FB after the 1st tri.
If you're employed when do you plan to tell Boss/coworkers?
I don't plan on telling them until after 1st tri. I'm due during our busiest time of the year. I work at a children's shoe store and we are very busy for back to school..oops! I hope I can work as long as I did with DD though, my last day was 3 days after my due date!
How do you plan to announce?
I'm not sure yet. I know I'm going to get pictures taken and have DD be the one to "announce" it, but I haven't found anything I like yet. At least we have time to plan all this out!
When will you announce? Probably closer to 12 weeks like we did with the first.
When will you tell boss? Probably around the 12 weeks again. Unless she figures it out earlier like she did last time.
Who was the first person you told? My husband actually knew before I did. I was too nervous to take the call from the doctor with my beta results, so he told me. The first person I personally told was my mom.
When do you plan to announce? We've told my parents and my husband's mom and step-dad. We're going to be telling a few close friends tomorrow, somewhat out of necessity (due to the fact that they have a 1-year-old that I can't have crawling all over me and the fact that tomorrow is NYE and I don't want to sleep on their floor/couch). For everyone else, we're playing it by ear. Probably after my first u/s. My husband would prefer to wait longer, but I want to have a support system in place.
I have a feeling that at least a few people already have some idea, since I've been having a lot of issues with smells and nausea since not long after our IVF and it's a little hard to hide, plus several people know we've been trying.
If your employed when do you plan to tell Boss/coworkers? Not currently working, so not an issue for me.
How do you plan to announce? For close friends and family, we're just going to get straight to the point. For everyone else, it'll probably be a Facebook announcement (as much as I hate to announce things like this on social media, it's the easiest way to contact our extended family and non-geographically close friends). Still trying to come up with something fun and cute to post on FB.
● IUI #2: BFP - early M/C :'(
● IUI #3: BFN
● IUI #4: BFN
● IVF/FET #1 (2 transferred): BFP! TWINS!
● FET #2 (1 transferred): BFP! BOY #3!
● Natural #1: BFP - M/C @ 8 weeks :'(
● Natural #2: BFP - M/C @ 5w5d :'(
Who was the first person you told? My DH. He already knew my AF was late.
When do you plan to announce? My close family probably soon like 6/7 weeks. And rest of family/friends probably around 10 weeks. I am very impatient so it might be sooner than that
Edit: We caved and told our close family on New Year's Eve. I knew I would be too impatient to wait lol
If your employed when do you plan to tell Boss/coworkers? I have a coworker currently on maternity leave so I'll probably wait until she comes back. That'll be around 10/12 weeks.
How do you plan to announce? I have been looking at ideas since we started TTC and I have a few picked out. My favorite idea is a picture of my son holding a sign saying; I'm so cute, mommy and daddy decided to make another.
When do you plan to announce? Never? We are close friends with a couple who just had their DS in August, and we will tell them possibly today. I will tell my mother as soon as I can get away with it without DH knowing, he doesn't want to tell our parents because I refuse to tell his mother after the incredibly insensitive way she handled our last loss. But if I do suffer another loss my mother was my best support system. I will also tell my closest friend. After that, I'm guessing around 16-18 weeks, when we are sure we won't lose the baby again.
If your employed when do you plan to tell Boss/coworkers? I'm in nursing school, I'll tell them when the clinicals schedule is released so we can make arrangements of necessary and arrange for me to miss class work around the EDD.
How do you plan to announce? Not a clue yet, we really weren't expecting to get a BFP this cycle. And we are still too cautious to plan that far ahead.
DH and my Mother in Law were there when we took the test. I Skyped my sister immediately.
When do you plan to announce?
We're telling my parents before the first ultrasound to get all of our medical history from my side. I think we will probably wait until about 8-10 weeks for everyone else.
If you're employed when do you plan to tell Boss/coworkers?
I will probably wait until the second trimester for my supervisors but I'm sure my coworkers will know before that.
How do you plan to announce?
I've been scouring Instagram trying to find something that fits our style. We have a bit of time so we should be able to figure out something memorable.
Who was the first person you told? My husband! But shortly after I told 2 of my closest friends (they know all about our TTC journey) and my sister. I don't think my husband has told anyone Edited to add: actually, I guess I told my buddies on my Facebook group first from my first BMB (S13) because I needed help looking at my tests and confirming there was a line!
When do you plan to announce? We will announce to the rest of our families after the first ultrasound (between 8-10 weeks?) And then to coworkers, Facebook, etc after 12 weeks.
If your employed when do you plan to tell Boss/coworkers? I will be telling my principal right after first ultrasound. I am also applying to work at different school wit a principal I have worked with before, so will also be telling her around then too...it's a long story
How do you plan to announce? I haven't really thought about it....we were very creative with our first child so I definitely can't skimp on this one
Technically, my best friend. Like some of you, I sent her a pic of the faint line to make sure I wasn't seeing things! But my husband was there for the digital test. Then we told my mom and I confirmed it with my best friend.
When do you plan to announce?
Not until 2nd trimester. I want to feel really confident about things before we make big announcements. We'll tell my in-laws sooner, though, since the early tests have all come back normal.
If you're employed when do you plan to tell Boss/coworkers?
I need to tell my boss soon since my teaching schedule in the fall will need to be adjusted (I'm due RIGHT as classes start). I won't tell my other coworkers until 2nd trimester. Although I'm horrible at keeping secrets, and we're a very small department. I doubt the secret will last that long.
How do you plan to announce?
Not sure yet. Maybe a #tbt to the best Christmas gift ever (we found out on Christmas). I also think it'd be funny to do an announcement picture using our cats since they've always been my babies.
Who was the first person you told? My SO - I told him shortly after taking the tests
When do you plan to announce? Not anytime soon. At the earliest, there are a few girlfriends I would tell at maybe 8-10 weeks after good appointments. More likely, will tell family and very close friends only around 12 weeks, will wait until it's really obvious to tell anyone else.
If your employed when do you plan to tell Boss/coworkers? For maternity leave I need to tell them at least 90 days before the EDD, so I'd like to wait as long as possible.
How do you plan to announce? At this point, I don't have any plans for a big fb announcement or anything. I guess we'd just tell family in person over a meal or something. I'm too superstitious to plan it this early!!
Who was the first person you told? The first people I "told" were some moms from S13. I couldn't tell if I saw a line or not, so I asked them. Later that day, I bought some digital tests, and they were positive. So I told my husband, parents, and ILs on Christmas day/
When do you plan to announce? I plan on not making the general Facebook announcement until much later in my 2nd tri - probably not until after the anatomy scan. I've got a lot going on between now and then, and I'd just rather focus this time on my family, and my pregnancy instead of posting constant updates and whatnot. I've told close friends where I'm living, and I'm sure my family will be able to figure it out once I get to the states, but I'm going to wait.
How do you plan to announce? I'll probably just make a cutesy Facebook announcement.
Two days before the holiday, I knew something was up when I went huffing and puffing to my performance review -- was it just nerves? Then, my boss excitedly announced a promotion for me.
Now, I am very, very conflicted as to when to announce I'm pregnant at work. Early, to make it part of my year-ahead? Or later, to let the new work-role settle in? I think my main hesitation is that I'm still unsure how long I'll take away from the office. Add a possible Masters Degree to the mix and I'm definitely at a crossroads.
At any rate, for friends and family, my DH had a great idea about throwing a party and then revealing the baby surprise midway through. I'm six weeks now, so getting a sonogram is only a little ways away. We might have a picture or poster. Any good ideas?
When do you plan to announce? We have already told our immediate family - parents, brothers and sisters.
For my extended family-- aunts, uncles, cousins-- I got a shirt from "hello apparel " that says "I'm so pregnant" and I plan to wear it when I see them in Feb.
I have three best friends from childhood that are still super close. We always do a secret Santa either in late January or Feb. after all the holiday craziness. I plan to get my secret Santa a wine bottle with a label that says "only best friends get promoted to Aunts" from Etsy...really cute. Then when she opens it up she'll show everyone else.
As for FB -- I don't plan to announce. They will figure it out eventually.
If your employed when do you plan to tell Boss/coworkers? I think at around 8-10 weeks. I plan on meeting wth HR before telling my boss to confirm that I'm doing everything I'm supposed to.
Who was the first person you told? My husband. Since then, I have told my cousin (we are very close and he is more like a brother than a cousin), my mom, and a friend in a music group I play in. My husband has told his sister.
When do you plan to announce? Maybe after the 8 week ultrasound, if things look good and we feel good about it. We are excited to tell everyone in our families except for my mother in law so it's a balance between the desire to tell the family members we like/waiting as long as we can so we don't have to deal with MIL.
If your employed when do you plan to tell Boss/coworkers? My boss is on sabbatical but will be back for a while right around the time I have my 8 week appointment. So probably then. Also, I am in pharmacy school and we already got our clinical rotation schedules and I have late August and all of September off. After the first OB appointment, I will have to talk to the school to get October off as well (we can take 2 months off during our rotations).
How do you plan to announce? We aren't going to say anything on Facebook. Our plan is to call our family members individually and tell them.
Who was the first person you told? DH first, then we told DD, my sister and my MIL.
When do you plan to announce? The rest of our family/close friends whenever we see the heartbeat, and it usually trickles out to everyone else soon afterwards. The last person I tell will be my boss and that will probably be around the 2nd trimester.
If your employed when do you plan to tell Boss/coworkers? Oh, I geuss I answered this above. There are some girls I am close to in the office. I'll probably tell them fairly early, but everyone else not really. They'll figure it out, I guess.
How do you plan to announce? Eh, I'll just say it probably. I didn't do anything fancy with the other two.
Evelyn (3.24.10), Graham (5.30.13) & Miles (8.28.16)
Who was the first person you told? My DH. I first tested on Friday the 18th, and got a veeeery faint positive. Wasn't sure I believed it! Googled everything I could on faint positives, tested again the next morning, that one was slightly darker, so I went out and bought a digital test and first response. Took one Sat afternoon and the next Sun morning... two definite BFPs! DH and I did our own Christmas gift exchange just the two of us Sunday night since we were spending Christmas at his parents' and I wanted to have our own special first Christmas together. Stuck all the positive tests in a fancy sparkly box haha. He had no idea! I think he thought I wouldn't be able to keep it a secret long enough to plan anything
When do you plan to announce? We told his family Christmas day. My family lives out of state and I have a few things on order to send them in the mail to announce. Will send it as soon as they arrive. Will tell close friends after. If something were to happen I know that I would want all of their support.
If your employed when do you plan to tell Boss/coworkers? I'm in a similar situation as @merrymayhem on this... I am starting a new job on Monday. Was working there part-time prior, so I know they will be very excited and happy for us, but telling them right as I start working full-time makes me a little nervous nonetheless. Will have to see how it goes.
How do you plan to announce? My husband's family got kids books we found at a used bookstore - his parents got ones about grandparents and his three siblings got various baby books, one of them about uncles. Filmed them opening them. They loved it! My family, we wanted to make it special for them too since we moved right after getting married in July and I'm the baby of the family AND the first to get pregnant. They'll be getting baby clothes in the mail... each item will have special meaning to each of them. Not sure yet if we want to just wait for them to call us after opening them or if we want to Facetime... I want to see them open them but I don't know if they'd be suspicious if we requested Facetiming for some "last-minute Christmas presents!" haha.
When do you plan to announce? Our anniversary is on 2/18 which should put us at 12-13 weeks. I think that would be a cute date.
If your employed when do you plan to tell Boss/coworkers? Holding off until at least 12 weeks. My boss is super supportive but I received a promotion back in October and I'm expecting that it may be frowned upon that I'm taking maternity leave so soon after.
How do you plan to announce? I am not sure yet, but it's a great excuse for a family photo shoot
