Baby scheduled

I need help LO is 12 weeks and still does not have a schedule down which makes it frustrating to ever go anywhere or get stuff done . She will pretty much eat play sleep but times vary from day to day other than bedtime and initially waking in the morning . How did you get your lo on a schedule where did you start ? Any info would be appreciated :)

Re: Baby scheduled

  • Bump
I'm in the same situation and age group. She doesn't have a set awakening in the morning - always depends on what time she feeds at night which always seems to be variable ....
also on eat sleep play routine.

  • I'm don't do schedules with either of my girls, but LO eats every 3 hours and can only be awake an hour-hour and 5 minutes before we miss the window for a peaceful sleep routine. I found this by trial and error. She wakes somewhere between 7-8 pretty much everyday and her last bottle usually ends up being somewhere between 8-9. It just worked out that way.
  • We don't have a schedule either, but I think the routine is pretty good! He wakes up anywhere from 5-7 and we start his routine then. It's hard to count on exact times when they are this little.
  • I agree with PP. We have a bed time routine that I start at the same time. Other than that I follow his cues. Some days are better than others, but it's all about meeting his needs.
  • My only schedule is to try to get him down for a nap after he's been awake for an hour. So he'll usually be awake for 1.5 hrs at a time. He usually sleeps in his swing, anywhere from 1-3 hrs (until his tummy issues started). I just repeat until bedtime (optimally ~8:30). We do bath, bottle, bed, and somehow he just knows it's bedtime (I am not a supermom, just got a good baby).

Except with the holidays and some tummy/reflux issues, this schedule has been shot to hell. I found that good napping was key - good for baby, GREAT for mom.
  • I have had LO on a schedule pretty much from the start. He eats at 8, 11, 2, 5, and 8 give or take 20 minutes. He eats as needed at night but we are down to usually just one MOTN feeding. If he wakes up before 8am we cuddle and delay. I don't bother with scheduled play or naps in between except for keeping him up between his 5pm-8pm feeding. Having a schedule has made it easier on me since I can plN my day by feeding time. It seems to be working out for him well too since he's sleeping 8+ hours a night consistently since 6 weeks. Love the schedule!
  • I let baby make his own schedule. He typically sleeps from 9pm-6am, +/- one hour, eating every 2-3 hours during the day (eat, play, nap... repeat). I always write down the time when he eats. When we have a day out of the house, or i have to run errands, i use the times from the previous day as a tentative schedule that is a pretty good indicator for the times he will want to eat so i can be prepared.
  • Most babies at this age aren't able to keep a schedule but probably have a routine instead, such as easy play sleep. Very few babies respond well to a set time schedule this young. Like pp said, you may drive yourself crazy trying to get your LO on a schedule. Once they get to 4-6 months it's supposed to get easier to start a schedule.
  • Thanks ladies I will continue to do our eat play sleep for another month or so before I try to start a schedule. My mil tries to act like I am not structuring Lo day and not setting a steady environment ! But she's probably Love you ! just too small still
