Baby purchases

I'm just wondering what things people are starting to buy or have bought at this point! I saw a really old post but it seemed like mostly little things. This is my second so I'm not going to have a shower but there are still some new things I wanted to have/need to replace.

So far we have ordered new bedding and the halo bassinest. I'm really excited to get it and set it up in our bedroom.

We also are replacing the crib mattress and have bought that.

Not sure how much is normal to buy with second. DS is almost 4.

Re: Baby purchases

  • I haven't bought anything. I wanted to start buying some small things here and there but I'm afraid of buying too much so soon! We are 18 weeks and I am not sure when it's appropriate to start buying stuff. I might wait until we come back from Spain in February.

  • We don't really need anything unless this is a boy, and then we will need clothes. There are a few things I'd like to replace but those are wants, not needs. So they will be getting purchased whenever we get the money. We will eventually need a new infant car seat but am borrowing one from a friend until we can afford our own.

  • So far, we have our travel system, bouncer and activity may. I've been picking up books as I find some of the classics at tj/Marshall's. I bought some basic white onesies and socks this week, and plan on going shopping Friday after our gender reveal on NYE. Next up is crib and changing table as I hear it's good to get it air out from paint for a while.

  • My husband has purchased a ton of baby boy clothes for our little man! Lol I was looking at the closet and cracking up, I'm pretty sure we do not need anyone to purchase any clothes for us at the baby shower!

We've also started stalking up on different size diapers! That's it!
  • FTM, 19 weeks, and we haven't bought a thing! My sister-in-law sent us money for Xmas and said to put it towards a stroller, but we haven't picked anything out yet. Once we find out the sex I'll be looking for clothes on Craigslist and eBay. As for everything else we'll need, we'll wait until after the shower and go from there.
  • 21 weeks, STM to an 8 year old so we have no baby stuff. We've purchased the crib and travel system. We have some clothes b/c my daughter and I couldn't help it especially since it's a girl. I have some gift cards to Babies R Us so I'm thinking of buying the mattress next.
  • I'm a FTM so we're starting fresh...so far we have our travel system, a video monitor, and all of our nursery furniture.  We ordered the glider and video monitor new from Amazon while both items were on sale, but the crib and dresser were my sister's who is done having kids.  Our travel system we purchased on Black Friday for $100 off!  We just received our high chair as a Christmas gift that we had on our registry.  Then other odds & ends we've either purchased (an elephant lamp, some gender neutral clothes, an occasional toy that I couldn't pass up), been gifted (baby hygiene items, babyproofing stuff, teethers/toys, etc), or have been handed down to us (diaper genies, diaper changing pad, Playtex ventaire bottles).
  • I'm a FTM and we've bought a stroller, a rug for the nursery and one blanket/stuffed animal. We're planning on buying the nursery furniture starting in January because it's a 5 week month which means an extra paycheck for us.
  • I'm a FTM and we have bought a dresser which we will use as a changing table and I bought our crib yesterday.  Other than that, I've only bought a few items of clothing and some swaddle blankets from Homegoods.  Next up we need to get our car seat and stroller, which we will probably do in January.  Stroller shopping is overwhelming!!

  • We've bought our crib and a dresser/changing table for the nursery. Aside from clothes or decorative items,
We're waiting until after my shower to buy more. After that, we'll make sure we have the absolute necessities (car seat, stroller and toiletries) and slowly buy whatever is left after that.

  • FTM here. First we planned on repurposing the old crib from my step sons, but after not finding screws and also intended to paint it white, we decided to get a new one... It would have been just a sentimental piece, but better safe than sorry! My stepsons are 12 and 13 so it's really been a while and I really don't feel safe after reading posts about this.
So we are buying a crib today, dresser/changing table is up. I have a nice stack of clothes from newborn to 6 months, some blankets, toys and books. Still on the hunt for the restoration hardware bassinet on Craigslist. I hope I will find it, still have some months.
The bigger items like stroller, car seat, swing etc are planned more towards March. Already know what I want. I'm not the one pushing for those things. It's more my OCD husband. He even asked when I start washing all the baby clothes... I thought to myself, I can start now, but what's the hurry?! I have a feeling by March everything will be done...

Any European mums looking into buying a European stroller?
I like German strollers but most of them can't be shipped. Found this one I really like and will order it with the bassinet. I'm sure the US has strollers like this, but the once I found are over $1,000....
  • STM, and having another girl, so we really have a lot already. DD is only a year old, so I kept basically everything. I've bought a few new outfits, as the seasons are complete opposites, but I'm waiting for anything else until maybe April-ish.
  • Third time mom but I can't stop myself from shopping!  I bought a few used things like a kick and play piano and other toys.  Mostly I've been buying clothes but picked up binkies, diapers, and tons of fabric to sew bedding and other things.  I feel like our house is going to explode so I'm trying to keep it to a minimum...for now!
  • I'm on baby #3 and we have some diapers bought. I'm in need of a new infant seat since ours is expired, a double stroller, a baby carrier (3 under 3) and we could use a second pack n play (baby sleeps in it in our room, and with the split level we could use one on the main floor as well, but we don't need it) we'll be making those big purchases at tax time. We don't need anything else unless it's a girl we'll need a few clothes. Otherwise we're set :)
  • We've already bought our stroller and we're probably buying the crib when we get paid next week. MIL is taking care of the glider and my mom is taking care of the dresser, car seat, and a few other things. We also got a few toys, towels, and blankets for Christmas from MIL.
  • Baby boy #2 here with birth/due dates within a month of each other, so hopefully they will be similar in size so that most/all clothing can be reused. We kept the baby items from DS since he's only 21 mo, and I'm just filling in some clothing items as they go on sale for the baby based on things that I wished I had/had more of with DS in certain sizes. Otherwise, the basic plan is to buy for DS and aim to keep at least most things in nice shape for this baby to wear later. I did get a new coordinating sweater and sweater coverall for the boys for next Christmas though, and DS has helped to pick out some new sleepers for the baby since some of his old ones are in rough shape.
  • Now that I know I'm having another girl I will not have to buy one stitch of clothing. I have bought an activity mat (Fisher Price with the piano at the feet), Bumbo with the tray (no clue where DD's is), and we've already started stock piling wipes and diapers.

  • I bought a ring sling and some white onesies. We were gifted a crib w/o mattress and my SIL says I can go through all of her sons old stuff. I need to focus on getting a cloth diaper stash going!

I love the Fisher price piano play mat! DS loved his so much, and it prompted him to sit pretty early because he wanted to play the piano with his hands.
  • @kbrands7 I had one for DD but for the life of me have no clue where it went. I got it at the grocery store (random) on sale for like $25!

  • We have an Eddie Bauer Pack n Play, the crib, diapers, a bunch of clothing and some smaller items.  I buy it when I see it on clearance or sale.
  • We're on baby #3 after a set of twins, so I don't think we need much.  Well, we need a big thing - a new car, come March or April.  We also have to decide on the issue of keeping the twins in the cribs or transition out.  I think we will leave them in and buy another crib only if needed.  Can you imagine having 3 cribs?!  We will use a pack n play in our bedroom for 6 months, so by them, the girls may be ready for twin mattresses on the floor.
We will need  more clothes if we have a boy, but 3 of our neighbors have offered hand-me-downs (score!), and my MIL tends to buy unprovoked...

@kbrands7 our timing is nearly identical and we are having another boy too! DS was March and is almost 22 months, so they'll be off by 2 months and hoping they're similar size wise. Also just buying things I felt like I didn't have enough of last time. I saved so much it feels silly to buy anything, but I've bought a few little things but at least this time I know what I actually used and loved versus things that were cute and impractical. I have been buying more for DS though since now I know two kids will definitely wear things for sure.
  • Our A/S is tomorrow but we don't want to know the sex until NYE. We have a card for the tech to fill out we will open at dinner. But there is a BRU right by the hospital and at 50% off sale clothes I think we will be doing some shopping after our scan and just returning anything we don't need after the reveal. I JUST WANNA SHOP!!

  • So far we have some clothing, burp cloths, towels, hangers, nursing supplies, a couple bottles, toiletries, pack n play, a little bit of nursery decor, a bunch of boxes of Honest Co diapers from a Target sale. Random stuff really lol. This is baby #3 so we really won't have a shower and our other 2 are 8 and 5 so we have nothing left over from them.

Depending on the store, that sale can be awesome! I got a down snow suit/bundler for DS for $5 when they had that sale a few years ago. :)
  • FTM- We got our travel system black Friday because it was 20% off, which was our only big item so far. My DH and I were talking about buying the crib today (from Amazon) and debating whether we should get a diaper changer or a dresser (we'd have to get rid of the armoire we have then). I just bought a diaper genie & refills and a crib sheet that is shipping from babies r us. We got some little teether toys for xmas from my parents. I've bought lots of clothes too.

  • FTM at 18 and some days.

We have bought the Compactum and Crib and mattress. Oh and my sleeping pillow doubles as a feeding pillow so I guess that as well.

I have made a list - so each month or when we are in the shops, I will aim to get a couple of big things - so it's not overwhelming closer to the time.

I've also marked certain things as 'baby shower' in case those things get gifted to us.
If not, I will get them last.

I have bought zero clothes cause I know my friends tend to go crazy at the baby showers.

We are getting a German stroller. It's tradition in DH's family for the new great grandpa to buy one. He wants to get a Knorr and they look very nice and have great safety ratings. And the one he wants comes with a diaper bag and a baby carrier so we can cross those items off the list as well!

Other than that I bought a onsie from the dive shop I worked at and one pair of decorative shoes for the reveal. Oh and two nursing bras.

We live in Mexico but are hoping to move to Germany a few months after the birth so I don't want to buy too much furniture that I will have to leave behind or try to resell.

It's been hard not to buy things but I'm making myself wait until after my shower in California to stock up on any other portable basics I may need.

  • I have a massive family who will all want to get us stuff off of my registry for the baby so we've just been buying stuff for the nursery. We bought the rug, curtains, most of the artwork, and did all the painting. Oh and I have bought a couple of really precious onesies
  • I had fun getting clothes from Carter's last week when they had a big sale but haven't bought anything else so far. We will probably wait until after our shower to get any big stuff that we still need.
  • Aside from the toys and books we have been buying at the Goodwill store over the past few years in preparation for a future child, we have now bought more specific baby items.
Got the travel system and an extra base, a bumbo (or is it bumpo?), a bobby, a mamaroo, a pack n play. Bought all that used from people we know.
Just put our crib set on lay a way from Burlington Coat Factory.  They have a deal where you can get the 2 in one crib, a toddler crib rail, changing table, dresser, and hamper for 299. We put a hundred down on that. So only about two hundred to go.
I bought a bottle off of Amazon b/c I read that it helps if your baby has reflux and helps prevent it.  So I got it just in case.

SO and I got a few things on Boxing Day. Pack n play, video monitor, some odds and ends. Since we found out the gender we have been buying some clothes. And we also received some as Christmas presents.
We picked out the crib, dresser, and stroller. But we were on a vacation 5 hours away and didn't have the room in the car so all of that will have to be bought next time we can get to town.
My favourite item so far is this rocking moose my parents bought for us. We are going to be decorating the nursery with Canadian wildlife in mind (we are Canadian and rather outdoorsy haha) and it's just the cutest!

I love the moose! DH is actually a dual citizen of Canada (born in Toronto, dad is Canadian and mom is American) so baby can technically get dual citizenship too. That being said we really want to get something for the babies room that has to do with Canada. That is if our family up there doesn't take care of that for us :)
  • Don't know baby's sex yet, but we bought a crib and a bouncer on Black Friday sales.

  • I love that rocking moose so hard. <3
  • We can reuse most of the big stuff from DD, so the only major purchase so far is the upgrade to the Britax B-ready double stroller from the B-agile since we found it on sale during Black Friday. I also bought a bouncer since we borrowed that from a friend last time.

Baby is a boy so we will need some new clothes, and maybe a couple nursery updates, but lucky for me I liked a lot of gender neutral stuff for DD in newborn - 6 month sizes, so I'll hardly need anything in the clothes department for a while.
