How do you think your baby is positioned?

I know the position can change up to the last moments, but I am just wondering what he/she looks like in there. I feel hiccups quite low, slightly to the left. The OBgyn says the heartbeat is right under my belly button. And most kicks come to the top right, so I think my baby is with his/her head down to the left... When I lie down on my side, I can sometimes feel the baby sticking out on the left/lower side and right/upper side at the same time. Almost as if the baby is trying to stand up on the mattress. How do you think your baby is positioned?

Re: How do you think your baby is positioned?

  • I've felt my daughter pushing her butt against my upper right side for a while. Last visit (so a week ago) I asked my OB questions about when they start checking to make sure she isn't breech and all that since it's my first and she was nice enough to do an ultrasound right then because she didn't want me to worry(I wasn't but who says no to a chance to see their LO? ) and my baby girl is already head down. Yay!

  • I had my last ultrasound yesterday, and he is head down already.  But kind of at an angle.  His little butt is right above my belly button on the left side, and his head is more on the right side.

  • I haven't had an ultrasound in a long time and my OB hasn't mentioned it. I don't think she's head down like she's supposed to be because I feel her rolling around near my belly button. I'll probably ask at my appointment on Tuesday.
  • My baby keeps flipping from sideways to head down. The change in pressure down there when he's head down is so extreme it's almost comical! He's been head down for a few days now and I trust that if he doesn't stay that way this time, he will eventually.

  • Baby's definitely been head down and likes to hang out on my right side (like all my other babies).
  • 3 weeks ago she was head up
  • Mine is exactly as you described. At my last appointment doc said she could tell that she is head down based on finding the heartbeat in the lower left quadrant and I constantly feel large bulges on my lower left side and sharp kicks up in my right ribcage. Hoping she stays that way or at least flips back before birth! She's been in that position for a couple weeks now.
  • At my 20 week appointment my LO was breech with of course plenty of time to flip. At my 29 Week appointment she flipped head down. I feel her kicks up under my bust and ribs so I'm thinking that's her feet. I will see what happen over the next few weeks if she stays head down.

  • She (painfully) turned head down earlier this week and has stayed there, so we'll see if she stays.

  • He's been head down for the past several weeks. He rolls from side to side a lot, but hasn't tried to flip (thankfully). I think I feel elbows, knees, his butt, and his feet regularly.
  • Wed they were both *sort of* head down. Poor baby girl was on my left with her legs stuck behind her head in a ball. Baby boy was on my right sprawled out taking up all the space. She is still lower than he is. The next day I had an NST and we couldn't really find them based off of those positions so who knows if they are still situated that way.

Sounds just like how my DS is positioned! :)

  • Sideways! I can feel her moving on both the left and right simultaneously. Based on her movements, I think her head is on the right and her feet are to the left. She has been transverse since my a/s at 18 weeks and was still there at my 30 week u/s. If she doesn't move by my u/s on 01/04, she's getting evicted!

  • Right this second, he's head down facing my spine, body smashing my right kidney and feet to the left.
  • Baby girl is head down and has dropped so she's not changing I don't think. Both my OB and chiro confirmed she dropped which makes me a little concerned she's coming early but trying not to think about that!
  • My OB has said she's head down for the past 2 visits. Hopefully she'll stay that way. I'll get another look on the 5th at my 36 week ultrasound.
  • He's been head down the last two appointments but I felt hiccups up by my ribcage today so I'm thinking he may have turned again! Hope he flips around again if so!
  • Mine is transverse and sometimes head up. I feel him kicking my left side or cervix. Thanks baby!
  • LO has been head down since my 29 week ultrasound. Though she can be quite active she doesn't very her position very much. She keeps her back to my right side and shoves her but into my rib cage. Most of the kicks/punches are on my left side. It's rare for it to happen on the right. She's a stubborn one. I will feel her try to roll over she gets about half way and then rolls back

  • It's kind of hard for me to tell, but I'm pretty sure LO is head down. I feel kicks up under my right ribcage and sometimes what I -think- is a little butt smooshed up against my left upper side - maybe he's laying transverse, then? Honestly, I'm clueless as to how he's positioned! Hiccups don't help - sometimes they're low, sometimes they're high. Maybe he's still rolling around in there. Hopefully he picks a position soon and sticks with it (preferably head down, of course)!
  • Baby has been head down since 27 weeks. She really doesn't move from what I can tell either... Her feet are constantly in my ribs... I have a bruise on my right side from her! She's definitely getting stronger...

  • Baby has been head down since 26 weeks that I know of. At my last apt at 30, 32 weeks he was head down still.
  • I've had a feeling she is sideways- with her head or butt on either side of my belly button- since I often feel a bulge in either side that has to be either s head or a butt!

My cousin in a nurse and used her stethoscope to listen for a heartbeat. She was able to hear it faintly to the right side so now I know (sort of, assuming she's not doing flips all the time!) that her head is to my right hand side and her legs and butt wrap around to my left!
  • I know exactly how my twins are positioned.

Baby girl is head down on my right side and super super low to the point they cannot scan her head well during growth scans. Her body extends up towards my left side. Baby boy is laying transverse across my ribs with his head to the right and feet toward the left.

I just had my first NST last week and could tell the nurse exactly where to place the monitors. There hasn't been much change to their movement and I doubt much will change at this point being that they are over 4lbs each.

  • Baby girl is breech :/ midwives said not to worry until 36 weeks, and then we'll talk about what to do. Tried lots to get her to move but to no avail. Her head is constantly in my ribs and her feet push off my left side while her back goes out the right side. It makes my stomach look rediculous! Lol. I'm petit with a tiny tummy and therefore baby girl doesn't have a ton of room to flip. I remember the feeling well of when she flipped to breech so I'm waiting to feel that again!! Ouuuchhh
  • Head down and low from what I can tell. Lots of movement above my belly button but she's so low there is no action anywhere near my ribs. It's a nice change this time around but my pelvis is sure paying for it.
Baby #3 due February. Dx with Spina Bifida Myelo  "good things are coming down the road, just don't stop walking"
  • Dr says baby girl is head down and most likely will stay that way til she comes.
  • Baby girl is breech too. Dr said there's still time. Head is usually on the right side. Last us, head was on right and spine on left and legs on right. Curled up. Hope she gets her head down soon, of course I'm nervous that she's still breech.
  • I honestly have no clue where she is...she moves alot! I feel alot of movement above my belly button to where if I lay on my back I can see her body part stick up and move. I just dont know if its hands, feet or butt. I am not due for another ultrasound. I guess I will find out when she starts checking me.

  • Sweet relief! Baby is still head down but she flipped to the other side. She's stayed on my right side and caused all sorts of nerve pain for the past week.

  • My little guy feels like he moves around a lot from side to side, but at the appointment I had this morning he was in the same position as last time two weeks ago. That's fine though, because he's in pretty good shape :) He's been staying head down and his back is to my left side with his bum, legs, etc. to my right. I have his foot in my right side ribs a lot of the time now, but it's mostly pressure still and not painful, although it makes sitting uncomfortable sometimes. And he sticks it to my right side completely sometimes and I have no idea how his foot gets that far over! It's so weird! Now I just have to coax his back around to the front of my belly . . .
  • I had appt today and OB said she thinks he is head down, which is what I thought. I feel his bony butt usually just above my belly button but it sort of sways from side to side. he moves around so much - sometimes it feels like cartwheels in there.

My guy feels the way Mrs. Smith above describes and U/S confirms he's head down facing the left (but presumably switches sides).
This is him sticking his butt out on the right side.

  • I went for my 4D ultrasound today and was told baby is head down. I thought she was laying side to side but I was wrong. Not sure if she will keep moving around or stay there, but we will see!
  • I had an appointment today and he is head down as I figured. (Yay!) He is also facing out so his back is on my back so my OB said I can start doing things to get him to turn his back to my front. Let's hope that changes, I still have lots of time though so I'm not too worried about that.
  • Based on every ultrasound I've had since the NT scan at like 12 weeks (and latest this morning), this kid has been head down nestled in the right hip. His feet are also right under my ribs on the right side. He basically loves my dominant side and has no intention of moving anytime soon..

Mine usually does the same thing! I wasn't sure if it was her head or her butt but the chiropractor and the nurse practitioner both agree she's head down. They think she's curled up into a C shape which is why I'm feeling so much movement above my belly button
