IUD/Mirena

I hope this isn't a repeat - I used the search feature first and couldn't find anything.

I had my 6 week PP visit and felt like a teenager getting the sex talk again.  After all my options were explained I think I'm going to get Mirena.  I was just wondering if anyone else had tried this method and what your experiences were.  Also, is it harder to get pregnant after Mirena than the pill?  I got pregnant immediately after stopping the pill (I never even got a real period) so I'm not taking the chances with assuming breastfeeding will prevent pregnancy (and waiting until I get my first period to do anything).  I am just hoping to get an idea of how it was for people.  Thanks!

Re: IUD/Mirena

  • I had the mirena for over four years and loved it!! I got pregnant two months after I got it removed. I'm getting another one in two weeks!

  • I had my Mirena for five years and loved it. We didn't TTC for almost a year after I had it removed, but my period came back quickly, within a month max. I'm a ftm, so no comparison with ease of TTC vs the pill.

I really liked the lower hormone levels, not having my period and not worrying about taking a pill every night. Sometimes DH would bump it during sex, but since the uterus will be a bit bigger after kids, I don't think it will be a problem. The insertion wasn't bad, although I did have some uncomfortable cramps for a few days. My period was completely gone by about four months in, and it steadily decreased/ became spotting over the interim. I highly recommend!

  • I had the mirena and LOVED it! Didn't get one out back in since we want kids close together and didn't want to have one for just a few months but my experience was amazing with it and we conceived pretty quickly once it got removed.
  • I had the Mirena for 10 years and loved it! I did not have a period the entire time I had it. I took it out Jan 1st, had my first period on Jan 20th, and that was my last because I got pregnant.
  • I had mirena for four years and loved it. Just got it again at my 8 week check up. You have to wait two weeks to have unprotected sex just to be safe (possiblity of infection and all that) or at least that's what my doc said. Otherwise normally you are clear 2 days after. You will bleed after because it rids your body of any lining it's developed so be prepared.
  • I got one for the first time at the beginning of this month and I'm still bleeding
  • I got mine 4 weeks ago, and I'm still bleeding too.
  • I had Mirena for about 3.5 years and loved every minute of it.  I didn't have a period the entire time, nor did I have any spotting.  I did have to get the threads trimmed pretty short due to my husband feeling them every once in a while, but it didn't make taking it out a problem at all!  I would definitely do it again!
  • Had my first mirena for nearly 5 years. Took it out in October. Dr said to wait 1 period before TTC. got pregnant in early February. I had another mirena placed at my 6 week checkup. I did not have the strings trimmed at all this time since I had them trimmed so short with my first and had removal issues. I've had minor spotting with this one which I did not have with my first mirena.
