When does it get better?

The newborn phase is killing me. Grateful for a healthy baby but can't wait for him to do more than spit up and poop. Is it around 3 months that they start doing more tiny human stuff?

Re: When does it get better?

  • I'm a first time mom so I'm not exactly sure when they start doing more, but I just wanted to send some creepy internet hugs. Hang in there. It gets better.
I too am looking forward to when LO will "do more" but I found myself wishing he would slow down when I put him in a 6 month sleeper this morning.
He is almost 7 weeks so I felt silly but I already miss him being my little NEW newborn, lol.

  • 5-6 weeks is a wonder week. They start mimicking then. My LO is 6w3d and its getting better. It's the holidays that have killed me.
  • My little one is 10 weeks and she is on the verge of a full belly laugh. I can't wait. She looks for me when other people hold her. She mimics my expressions (like pp said) when we play. That time will come fast and you'll suddenly start to notice changes (it seems almost daily now!). I am missing get my tiny newborn, but seeing her personality coming out is amazing!
  • I HATE the newborn phase. This is my second babe, and I hate it. I love, love, love it around 4 months. That's when it gets fun :)
  • I was just telling my husband today how glad I am that our son is starting to become more of a person. Like, I didn't dislike the fresh tiny baby stage, but it's so exciting to see him becoming more interactive. And also nice because my husband actually is stepping up now because he can actually play with him a little and make him happy. He's only 7 weeks, so he's still not quite to the fun baby point yet but we are taking steps towards that and it's fun.
  • Awe my LO will be 5 weeks on Monday and she is already starting to make eye contact and smiling while awake (up to this point she only smiled in her sleep) I haven't minded the newborn phase (eat, sleep, poop, repeat) and am already missing when she was a new tiny cuddly baby. I can't wait to watch her grow and develop.
  • Honestly I love the toddler phase & the newborn phase. I love the newborn phase cuz u get all the cuddles with no complaints. I love the toddler phase because they already have the world figured out & can play (& they're potty trained lol) the in between is great with all the first's but I gotta say the before & after is my favorite.
  • My son is 9 weeks and very smiley, he tries to shriek with excitement now. More interactive when he's awake....but I'm desperately hoping he is going to start sleeping longer stretches because I'm dying on such little sleep

  • I'm feeling pretty torn, too. LO is three weeks and I'm realizing that there isn't a lot of time left where he's this small. He's going to grow, and change, and there's no going back. But there's so much to look forward to, like SLEEP and less spit up, and him having a personality.

So while I'm looking forward to that, I'm going to miss him being tiny.
  • I put a NB onsie on my son today and his arms are getting too long for it. I cried a bit.
  • I felt this way for a bit but now at 6 weeks, she's grown out of NB sleepers and her head/neck control is getting better by the day. It's going to go fast. I won't miss being sleep deprived but I will miss tiny baby snuggles.

this. I am a FTM and feel like both my husband and I were in a total fog for the first few weeks and now that we're finally coming out of it, I am aware of how quickly the first three weeks went and how my LO is growing and changing and my tiny baby is not
Going to be my tiny new newborn for much longer... Looking forward to discovering her personality but... Sigh.

  • It will never get better!! We are so screwed!! J/k my son is now trying to "talk" and I can not get enough of it.
  • My LO will be 11 weeks this week but he was five weeks early so I guess he's like a six week old really. He's just starting to really look at us and he's starting to try to talk, giggle and cackle. It just melts my heart! He's in 3 month clothes now and some of those are starting to get snug. :(
  • I feel like a bad mom for wishing LO was 4 months already. With DS, I made certain to remember and enjoy every moment but with LO, I just want this phase to be over. Last night she was up from 2am-7am. Maybe it's just the sleep deprivation talking.

I'm right there with you lo was up from 4-8am at 6:30 I had to give her to DD I was dying. I'm looking forward to this phase being over as much as I love my lo and her being a new baby it's exhausting, confusing and stressful.

With this being my second it will just be SO much easier when she can sit up and I can plop her down to tend to DD1. Now it's like I have to find the Rock and play or the crib or something before I can do whatever I need to do with my toddler. Poor second child of mine.
  • My LO is 5 weeks and at the dr last week she was "talking" to him. It's more of a yell. She kicks and flings her arms so hard and fast until she works it up then she blurts it out and almost looks shocked! It's so cute. I'm going to miss this stage for sure but my DH can't wait for her to get a little bigger and start interacting with her.
  • I honestly can't wait for the sleeping to get better (ish). DH and i have been trading off trying to get DS to sleep for the past three hours! He's not fussy, he just won't stay asleep. Once we do finally get him to sleep he wakes up every two hours to eat. Not to mention, during the day it's so much work to get him down for naps. Most of the time I end of wearing him in the carrier so he falls asleep. That is fine, but it take three times longer to accomplish a task with a baby tied to you.
