Sleep statistics- what's your norm? 6-10 week olds

Every baby is different, we know. But just wondering- when you put your baby down on their own at night (no co-sleeping) how long do they sleep? My 8 week old LO is averaging 1 1/2 to 3 hours at a time right now. How about you?

  • My 7 week old wakes consistently around the same times. He falls asleep around 9. His sleep schedule is roughly 1 hr wake to feed, 3 hrs wake to feed, 3 hours wake to feed, 2 hours wake to feed, wake every hour for comfort starting at 7am.

  • My 11 week old does an 8 hr stretch starting from 7pm. Has a feed around 3am and does about 3 to 3.5 more hours. Waking every day at roughly 6.30am
  • 9 weeks old. Goes down between 6-6:30. Wakes up to eat around 1 or 2 then up for the day at 5. I leave for work at 6, so our day starts early. Sometimes he wakes up to eat around 10 if he didn't eat as much during the day. He started this schedule at 6 weeks.
  • My little guy is a night owl at 8 weeks. He goes to sleep anywhere from 11:30 to 1:30 and sleeps between 5 to 7 hours straight through. He rustles around making some noise occasionally in the night but we make sure not to pick him up unless he's really awake.
  • My little girl is a night owl as well. Goes to bed around 11-1 but sleeps until 5 for a feeding & then doesn't get up until 11. But she is awake nearly all day.
  • It looks as though the majority are sleeping 4 or more hours at a time. How do you do it?!? We have a routine, we swaddle, all that good stuff but he still wakes himself about 1-2 hours after a feeding and won't go back to sleep without me. I don't pick him up or interact, but I have to at least come pat him back to sleep- takes about a half hour.
  • My LO just turned 10 weeks and she has been sleeping for 8-10 hours her first stretch at night and then will go back down for another few hours. She's been doing this consistently for several weeks. She's been a great sleeper from the start though, we are really lucky. Naps were a huge challenge at first but I've learned her sleepy signs and now I can just put her down fully awake and she'll put herself to sleep with no fuss.
  • @basdenjn6 do you use a binky? My LO can put herself to sleep if she has her pacifier. And if she wakes in the night before she needs to eat I just give her binky back and she will drift off very easily. I only give the binky when she is sleeping so I think that helps her know that binky=sleep time.
  • My lo goes down 8-9 and sleeps most nights until 7 or so. Sometimes fusses around 4/4:30 but just wants to snuggle and will sleep more in our bed until 7/8. Our only routine is around 7/8 at night we change him, bathe him every other night and then feed him.
  • @kaylerjean - we do use a binky, which is what has helped making him go back to sleep so easy. I guess I'm just wondering how so many of you have them sleep soundly. Don't get me wrong, if he's sleeping next to me, he'll do a 8 hr stretch at night, but we don't want to co-sleep. To scary for me.
  • Wow! I wish my LO was doing this! I can't complain too much, he's an easy baby during the day. I go back to work in a week and I don't think I'm going to handle waking every 2-3 hours well.
  • I also have a little night owl who finally gets to sleep between 11 and 1, and will wake between 6:30 and 8:30. Usually I can get her back to sleep after her first feeding for another 3 hours. (That came in handy over the holidays when I wasn't getting to bed until 3 or 4 am.)
  • My baby sleeps 9:30p-8am ... She is ten weeks old ... Naps are a little all over the place during the day ... I just kind of let her do her thing lol
  • I think weight has a lot to do with it too. My LO is 9 weeks but she only weighs 9 lbs. Some babies are bon at 9 lbs! She usually gives us 4-5 hours and then another 2 and 2 and 2. I don't feed her at the 2 hour stretches always. Sometimes she just wants to snuggle. She gave us 8 hours a few days ago but not again since. Hopefully soon!
  • Not sure how to help with the night sleeping so I'll at least put what our routine is in case there is something you want to try that we are doing that you don't do.  Our LO goes to bed between 7-8 pm after a final feeding for the night.  We swaddle him to sleep and he usually sleeps until 3-5 am.  In between he might fuss and wake up and it's usually due to him getting a hand out of the swaddle so he's gnawing on his hand.  We just reswaddle and put a binkie in his mouth and he goes right back to sleep!  We also use a sound machine to help drown out our noise as well as street noise.  Then he'll wake up between 3-5 and we'll feed and put him back to sleep!  Hope you have success in the future!

  • DD started sleeping through the night at 9 weeks.  That is when she found her thumb and constantly puts it back in her mouth throughout the night.  So for what pp said about a pacifier for those of you using them, that probably would help them self soothe at night.  @basdenjn6 As far as sleeping "soundly"...DD kicks, squirms, cries out every now and then, and everything else in her sleep.  Some people think their LO is awake when doing all these things and usually go check on their LO.  I've even seen her open her eyes, then close them back and go back to sleep.  I don't check on her or wake her up unless she's crying or it's morning.  Sometimes if I'm unsure I will either peek for a second or turn on the monitor to see, but I won't mess with her unless I know she's awake. I usually wake her up between 5-6 am because that's when I'll wake her up to nurse when I go back to work, but she usually goes back to sleep for 2-3 more hours.
  • LO last bottle is between 10-11 at night and then she's typically asleep until 4-5 when eats and is back down until 7-8. She's 8 weeks and this started around 5-6 weeks.
  • LO's last bottle is around 10-11pm then he goes down until 8-9am. He also naps 3-4 times during the day for 1-3 hours each.
