Although, I'll warn you in advance, it can be disgusting, but I had horrible heartburn for most of my 1st trimester (which is almost over!!! Woowhoo) and I started making tea with a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and honey, and it was a life saver. It sounds like it wouldn't work, since vinegar I acidic, but heartburn is a result of not enough stomach acid. I also read you can mix it with water and sip on it (too gross for me) or water with lemon helps too. I've found tums don't help at all and just make me even more constipated. Zantac helped some, but I try not to taking anything that isn't natural. Hope this helps some.
I finally caved the other day and took some tums. Was trying to avoid taking any meds at all during this pregnancy but the heartburn was so awful in the middle of the night that I almost started throwing up. Had to sleep sitting up for a portion of the night. The tums killed it right down. Have to avoid certain foods now or I'm in for misery.
I wouldn't really consider Tums a medication, but I can see and respect your choices. Ask your dr for a list of what is safe to take during pregnancy and keep it someplace you can find it easily. I'm trying to limit what I put in my body, as well, but things like Tums, colace and Tylenol are all things I take regularly, as I'm not willing to deal with heartburn, constipation and major migraines on the daily
Re: Heartburn
Hope the Tums keep working!
