Baby is sick

I feel sooo bad for him because my sister got me sick over 2 weeks ago and I'm still getting over it and now he's sick. You can look at him and see it, his cry sounds terrible, and he's super stuffy.
Does anyone have any hpme remedies to get rid of this. Online it says to keep the room moist and clean his nose a lot.
What else can I do?

Re: Baby is sick

  • Just try to keep him comfortable.  I use a Nose Frida, Baby Vicks, Saline Drops, sleeping on an incline will help with congestion.  DS2 has a cold from his brother so I've had him back in the Rock n Play for the past 3 nights.  Lots of rest and a cool mist humidifier.  I bring the humidifier downstairs so he has it for naps too and playtime on his mat.

If he gets really congested you can take him into the bathroom with the shower on hot and sit in the steam for 10 minutes or so.  Feed him as often as he will eat because fluids and lots of rest will help him.  Good luck, sick babies are tough, I've even put DS in the swing on his peak day because its so important that they get sleep and he was waking more often than usual.

  • I put a pillow under the head of his mattress to raise it slightly while he slept so he didn't have to keep coughing as much mucus
  • I used saline drops and the nose frida. The dr did tell me not to over use the suction because it can make it worse.
  • Vicks plug ins are nice :)
  • Run a humidifier at night if you have one. Ours worked wonders when DD was sick.

  • I used a cool air humidifier at night, used a pillow under the mattress to elevate his head to help breathing, and used two saline drops and something like the nose Frida just before every feeding. He seemed stuffy still but I sucked a lot out so I think it helped a little. He spit up ALOT because he'd swallow the mucus and it would make him sick when he ate but there's nothing else you can do. I also used Vicks but only put it on his feet then put socks on bc the ped cause it can be harsh on there skin. And when I took a shower I brought him on there in his bouncer and took a really hot shower and kept him in there for 20 minutes at night and in the morning.
  • I bought a baby chest rub at target and just recently used it. It has seemed to help a lot. Also put it on his feet. It's much nicer than Vicks. It's all natural and petroleum, menthol free. It's made with coconut oil, lavender, and chamomile. Its fantastic stuff!!

What is it called? I'd love to get some
  • @kate913 I got the honest co chest rub! I absolutely love it. I use saline drops and nose frida and run the cool air humidifier. That's all we can really do. She is finally over her cold. Hooray!
  • @kate913 sorry for the late reply. It's Matty's all natural baby chest rub. I found it in the infant bath isle.
