Is he really too big?

My DS just had his 2 month check up and is 14lbs 1oz and 25.5 inches. He was 8.5 and 20.5 inches when he was born. The Dr said he looks great, is healthy and has no concerns but after the appt I was telling a few family members his size and they said he is really big! My sisters sister-in-law has a 4 month old DD who is 13lbs and 23 inches. I never compare babies because I know every child is different but is he really too big?! How big is your LO at 2 months?

Re: Is he really too big?

  • Some babies are just bigger than others. That's why they have the percentiles. LO2 was 12 lb 2 oz at 6 weeks and I'm sure a bit more by now, he was also 8lb 7 oz at birth. He's been at the 90th + percentile on everything.

  • Violet is almost 10 weeks ... She hasn't had her check up yet but I know she's about 14 pounds and probably 24-25 inches long ! She was 9lb 2.5oz 22in ... So I say no that's not too big !! I hate that other people always have to have an opinion on your child :(

My daughter started sleeping 8 hours through the night around 4 weeks old ... I was so excited and happy! her longest stretch of sleep was always at night and she was eating plenty throughout the day not sick or anything just sleeping. My MIL went on and on how that's "not normal" and I needed to call her pediatrician to make sure nothing was wrong with her because she was "supposed to be up every three hours crying" because that's how my husband was as a baby  ... I was like no lady we just got really blessed .. So annoying
  • Ps I'm SO happy for you that the doctor said he looks great and is healthy !!! Could we ask for anything more ?! :) ❤️
  • That's the same size as my guy and he's 8 weeks.
  • I get the same thing from people on my LO. He was 14 lb 9oz and 25.5" long at his 2 mth. 95th percentile. I don't really notice it usually, his my first and I don't have any experience with babies, so to me he seemed little. But when I go to baby groups I notice it for sure. And spending Xmas with the in laws, our nephew is 1yr old and weighs 20 lb so he's not that much bigger height and weight wise than our little bean. But I'm happy he's healthy like yours. Only downside is how fast he grew out of the smaller clothes, my 2mth old is in 3-6 mth onesies and even those could use another inch in length to fit better.
  • I was so excited about my little chunky monkey. At our two month appointment she was 22.5 inches and 11 pounds! I packed 3 pounds on her in a month. : ) such a relief after it took 3 weeks to get her back to her birth weight.
  • My little guy is 10 weeks tomorrow and at his 2 month he was 13.5 lbs and 24 inches. Except he wouldn't straighten his legs for the doctor (he's actually extremely strong) and at home I measured him at 25.5 inches. He's in all 6 month clothes already too! Unless your doctor is concerned I would say keep doing what your doing. October just has very tall healthy babies it seems!!!
  • Not at all! My LO was exactly the same at 2.5 months and perfectly healthy :) Except he was born at 6lb 11oz & 19.5in! Ha so he's grown so much!!! and honestly, he could have just had big growth spurts recently .. Next check up he could measure at lower percentiles. Everyone seems to have an opinion or comment, just remember the only one that matters comes from the doctor! Congrats on your healthy baby :)
  • I have the opposite problem... mine is much smaller but i just wanted to let you know i feel for you. I hate when people compare babies. My sister in law has a baby thats 4 days older than mine and weighs 3 pounds more and i constantly get the are you feeding her enough comments. I always tell people that if her doctor is happy than i am happy.
  • Tell them their mouths are big lol!
  • at 9 weeks my guy was 14 lbs 8 oz and 24.25 inches. he's such a big boy. already breaking my heart. can't wait for my parents to see him again. he's changed so much. ;(

  • Mine is on the opposite side of the spectrum... At his 2 month, he weighed 10lbs. He is at the 8th percentile for weight. When people comment on how little he is, I don't know what to say. Yes, he is small. Yes, I feed him.

Exactly that! My LO was born at 6 lbs 1oz and dropped to 5lb 9oz after birth before starting to put weight on. At 2 months she was just over 9 lbs. At every Dr's appointment they always reassure me that she's growing perfectly she's just started out small. My family always says that she is small but mighty because she is definitely strong for her size and definitely has her mom's stubborn streak in her! When we're out in public I always get the "oh my god she's two months!? She's so tiny!" Comments though. Yes. Yes she is!
  • Mine was 24 inch and 11 lbs at her 2 month appt. Apparently she's working on her length before packing on the lbs. We've got a tall one....
  • My boy weighed in at 14.7lbs at 8 weeks. He is in a harness for his hips so we cant get a length but he is big! I both love seeing him growing but it makes me sad that after only 8 weeks i no longer have my small baby. He was 8.3 when he was born.

  • at out 8 week check up baby was 24 inches and 14 pounds, I think boys are just bigger hahah
  • Haven't had our 2 month check yet but my little girl is 9 weeks and I weighed her at home and she was over 14lbs and when we measured she was around 26". I just think better a bigger baby than failure to thrive. This is my first and I was nervous but other than chubby cheeks and a round belly she doesn't look "too big". She was 7lb6oz 21in when she was born.
  • All babies are different.

My DS born Oct 3 was 6lb 5oz at birth, 6lb 1oz two day check up, and now he's 14.6lbs at 12 weeks more than doubling his weight.

DD was 7lb 7oz at birth and 12lbs at her 2 month check up.
  • It goes either way, because everyone comments on how small my girl is. She was 10 lbs 13 oz at 2 month checkup and was 7 lbs 11 oz when she was born. She's right at 50th percentile for weight and 7th for height. The doctor says shes perfectly healthy so I don't worry about it...she's just long and skinny...but people comment to me all the time and how small she is.
