Losing that baby weight

I haven't seen any posts about losing the baby weight. With my first 2 kids I was back in my skinny jeans 3 months after baby. This pregnancy I think I may have a harder time considering my metabolism has slowed down a little. What are YOUR goals for losing the weight? What diets are you going to try? Planning on breastfeeding to lose the weight? Or just letting it come off when it decides to come off?

I'd love to hear your plans!

I'm getting antsy already, so I hope that I'll have motivation to exercise when I'm cleared in four weeks! My husband runs ultramarathons, so we keep healthy food in the house and eat mostly produce, whole grains, etc .

When I can exercise, I'm going to try and train for a 5k. I think having a goal will keep me motivated, and it will provide me with some alone time and get me outside.

My friend said that she lost weight by just wearing her baby and going for walks.

  • With having a 3rd degree tear, I can't imagine exercising for a while yet. So I'll be just breastfeeding to lose the weight until I'm healed up, and watching what I'm eating. Baby wearing is a good idea though, I can probably handle that!

I haven't given myself any goals except to be back to optimal shape/weight by next year around this time when I'm the matron of honor in a wedding. I think my only other goal would be to fit in my regular clothes by the one I go back to work in March!

  • I hope to get moving as soon as I can. 4 weeks post c-section those muscles don't feel like they're ready for exercise, even though I feel pretty great. I've lost 20 lbs already but I'm pretty sure that was all the swelling and baby weight.
  • At my first appointment PP a week after delivery I was already 2 pounds less than my pre-pregnancy weight... but I only gained 10 pounds with the pregnancy. The only plus side to having a crappy PP body is that it doesn't take much to get back to it. My body didn't change with the pregnancy... It was crappy before and it's still crappy
  • Don't have numbers to go by but I just want to fit back into my clothes. The fact that I can actually enjoy eating again is not making that easy. :D
  • Exercising after a c-section is rough. I hate the thought of having to wait 6 or so weeks. But I do remember with my first 2 c-sections it was a rough recovery so I know I have to take it easy. Baby wearing sounds like a great idea. I'll do that, along with just eating healthy. Once I'm cleared and ready to get moving again I may rejoin the YMCA. My "goal" is to be bikini ready by July, I'd like to think it's possible in 7 months, but who knows. All bodies are different :-)
  • I only gained about 15 lbs, and had an almost 8 pounder. I haven't weighed myself yet, only been out of the hospital 2 days and busy lovin' on this baby.

But, I an breastfeeding and will go back to the gym and my trainer when my doc releases me and I feel up to it. I'll probably at least be back to my pre-pregnancy weight by the time I get back to the gym, but that may also just be wishful thinking!
  • I gained about 28 pounds and fit in most of my shirts again. I have a 2nd degree tear so just the thought of exercise makes me cringe.
  • I have lost 21lbs so far 1 week post partum. I'm sure it's from the baby and placenta and all that as well as swelling, I had a lot of swelling and still have some.
I gained 55lbs total and my goal is to get all of it off by mid April because I'm the matron of honor in a wedding, quite a big goal but if I break it down it's only about 2lbs a week.
I had a c-section so have awhile before I can work out so I just plan on breastfeeding and eating healthy without being super strict and once I can work out doing t25 at home and lots of hiking with baby
  • 2 weeks pp I've lost 20 pounds and have 10 more to lose to get to pre pregnancy weight. I'm planning to start some kind of exercise once I get the OK from my doctor- I'd like to lose some extra weight since I was a little heavy for me when I got my BFP.
  • I gained 21lbs before baby came.  He was 6 weeks early and I've lost 14 of it so far, in just over a week PP.  I am breastfeeding and can equate some of the loss to stress.  Baby is in NICU (doing very well) but running back and forth to the hospital 2-3 times a day and just spending time up there with him, all while my house is a disaster, not fully prepared or planned on having him early, and the holidays, all added to the stress level. I am feeling really good and my energy level is high, but at the end of the day, I can't wait to crawl into bed. Hoping to get an okay to exercise in 4-5 weeks and get myself toned back up.  I don't think I'll have trouble losing the extra 7-8 lbs. to get back to pre-pregnancy weight, but my muscle tone is loose and I don't feel "in shape" at all.
  • I'm hoping to be back to my pre-baby weight by March (which was still on the heavy side). I've gained 40 ponds (I'm 39+3) although I was down half a pound today. My goal is to start slowly walking with baby as soon as I can, once I get the go ahead, then I will increase my walks. My husband also runs ultra marathons, but he's almost as bad as I am with junk, since he's in training we will start eating a lot better. I'm going to start slow and work from there!!
  • I gained 30 but am already down 24 at four weeks pp. Im not concerning myself with a specific regiment or time frame. Im eating well, will start to exercise again when I get the okay, and just go from there. Im oddly okay with my new mom body.
  • I gained 18 lbs and at 2 weeks PP I have lost all but one pound - can't believe it! I was heavy to begin with so my goal is to lose an additional 45 lbs within the next year, to be at a healthier weight before we try for #2! Had a c-section but feeling more like myself every day, and looking forward to getting cleared to exercise because I'm excited to try out stroller strides and meet some other mommies!
  • I gained about 35lb, most of it swelling after 32+w. At 5w PP, I've lost 30lb. I was very active before pregnancy, and tried to stay as much as possible during pregnancy. I'm looking forward to the 6w clearance, but I had an episiotomy and I wasn't feeling entirely healed until this week. I'll start with walking/ elliptical and go from there once I am cleared!

  • I gained about 33 pounds during my pregnancy. I'm at 12 days PP and I'm down 25 pounds already. I'm pretty impressed by myself with that because I honestly haven't been eating as healthy as I should be. I am breastfeeding though, so I know that's helping a ton. I plan on starting to eat a lot cleaner after the holidays and to start working out once I get the okay from my doctor.

The only part about I'm truly stressed about is healing my diastasis recti. It's like, you could be down to a lower weight than what you started at before baby but with the diastasis you have that horrible mommy tummy pooch. I've always had a very flat stomach so it's hard for me to look in the mirror and see a pooched out, squishy tummy. I know in time it will heal though, and I know that my little girl is worth it... just tough for mommy.
  • I can totally understand the hating the pooch belly. I remember it the last two pregnancies. But rest assure, in time it'll go away and tone out. :-) once you're cleared and feel up for muscle toning it'll be gone before you know it!
  • I really thought I would be freaked out about my body PP, but surprisingly I don't care what it looks like right now. I'm sure as time goes on I will. I plan on doing a Beach Body workout program at home when I'm ready.
  • Am I the only one who weighed MORE after giving birth than at the last pregnancy checkup?! I was horrified!
Pre pregnancy I think I was about 154, last pregnancy checkup I think 193 & then when I went a few days after my c section to get my staples removed I was 196!!! I don't understand how that's possible...I was told because of swelling. My feet were definitely swollen really huge... It has now been just over 2 weeks but I haven't stepped on a scale lately so I don't know what I weigh. I definitely want to get my body back though. I am in the national guard and the expectation is that I be able to pass height/weight and pt test at 6 months pp, which means I need to lose about 45 pounds within the next 6 months, be able run 2 miles in no more than 20:30, do 45 situps within 2 minutes and 17 push ups within 2 minutes. I am not sure how I will be accomplishing this though... Yes to bf, babywearing and will go to YMCA.
  • 3 weeks PP and I have lost 31 out of the 33 lbs I gained during pregnancy. I am BF around the clock! Even though I have practically lost all the weight I still have a small pouch! I hate it! Because of it, I can't fit into my normal jeans. After 6 weeks I intend on goong back to doing HIIT workouts with zuzkalight.com 15-20 mins a day is all I need as well as a clean diet since weight loss is 80% what we put in out mouths.
  • I was only down 5 lbs when I got home and I expected it to be more. I'm assuming alot of it swelling but I did feel frustrated. I have decided to stay away from the scale for a while.

I've decided that I'm going to weigh myself as soon as I get discharged, and then once every month. Losing weight will either come easy or hard. I know this time around it'll be much harder since my metabolism has slowed and I struggled losing just 15lbs I had gained in a year. So my goal is just to eat healthy, incorporate good work outs, and wear the baby as often as I can. For the longest time I was 115lbs. Then I jumped to 130lbs. I'm pushing 170lbs now at 38 weeks. If I can get down to 120lbs or be vendors 125lbs I'll be happy and even happier if I can accomplish that with a nice toned body by July. :D
  • Gained 40. 3 weeks pp and have lost 20. Still feeling puffy though so I hope I lose more fluid. I don't feel good about myself with the extra layer of fat and stretch marks all over my butt and thighs. My husband is all over me and I'm just not feeling good yet.
  • Gained 15, and am down 25 in 3 weeks. I was overweight to begin with, and still need to lose 10-20 pounds. I am breastfeeding every two hours and fully expect to lose up to my goal when I'm cleared to exercise. Still extremely tender from csection.

This is basically my motto for now.

    Exactly.

  • I gained 22 lbs and am down 18 at 13 days PP. I'm EB so I'm sure that's helped; I've only taken one two-mile walk so far. Winter isn't conducive to outdoor fitness but I'm hoping to babywear and get out whenever the weather is decent. I do a half-marathon every May, so being fit enough for that is my goal for now.

I was only down 10 when I got home and j was very disappointed, but i was very swollen all over too. Now I'm 2.5 weeks PP and down a total of 23lbs. And it falls off about a pound a day as I lose water weight.
  • @ kepoole thanks for sharing thats what I'm hoping well happen. My ankles don't look bad but even my watch band is snug. I'm assuming swelling.

  • I gained 40 lbs in pregnancy but already lost 30 lbs. My boobs have doubled in size though and the rest of the weight is definitely in my hips. I was scrawny pre-pregnancy and I actually like my new adult-like body. But it is very sad that none of my skinny jeans fit anymore.
  • I got home and the scale said I only lost a pound. I was extremely confused. I'm FF so no extra calories coming off but as my swelling went down pounds disappeared. 2.5wks pp and I'm down 23 pounds.

Can't wait to exercise though. I feel flabby ...and I got a mini potbelly in the works xD
  • Ugh. I gained 60. Lost 30 the first 2 weeks but haven't really budged since then. I follow the 9 months up, 9 months down plan!

  • I had dd on the 20th and today hit my pre pregnancy weight. That is 30 lbs of loss in 13 days (started dropping weight in my four days of laboring). My Dr did tell me earlier in my pregnancy that this might be a weight loss program for me. (On the overweight side of the scale pp)
  • Due to a gallbladder diet I was below pre pregnancy weight when I delivered. I am now down 40+ pounds but hoping to gain some back when I can eat fat again.

  • I gained about 10 pounds by the last day of my pregnancy. At my 2week postpartum check, I had somehow dropped 30 pounds. I've still got plenty to lose but am happy to say that I am squeezing into my pre pregnancy jeans. I'm just shaped differently at the moment. I still have tenderness at my csection site and in my left groin area so I have just started walking. Last night, I did 1 mile around the neighborhood and feel pretty good. Tonight I plan to bump it to 1.5 miles and see how I feel. I want to start light jogging in February after I get my groin strengthened back up.

I gained about 30lbs with my 9lb baby. I lost 12lbs before leaving the hospital (baby, amniotic fluid and placenta--I'd assume). I had some complications during labor so they pushed 3 liters of saline which resulted in insane swelling for 3-4 days after discharge. At 10 days postpartum I am down 23lbs. I haven't tried normal pants because I am still sore down there. I took off my wedding & engagement rings at 30 something weeks and they don't fit again yet :( My shoes are starting to feel normal again though so I'm hoping my rings will fit soon.

I haven't done anything but drink lots of water, BF, night sweats (while still being cold...) walking up to 1.5 miles (or wander, since I was sore enough that I'm walking slower than normal, I was still walking 3-5 miles up to 41 weeks). I have started some abdominal recovery exercises (pulling the belly button towards the spine to help abdominal muscles recover--this is supposed to help any possible diastasis recti heal before before I start any real core exercises). I need to start some pelvic floor exercises too but I was to sore to really feel they were effective despite the nurses saying it will speed recovery.
