Infertility

IVF timeline

I'm planning on starting IVF in January (if my last IUI is unsuccessful). I'm just curious, for those of you who have done it, what's the timeline like for the whole process? My beta for this cycle is on January 8, and I have a conference the first week in March that I was hoping to turn into a vacation, but I can't seem to figure out if the IVF cycle would interfere with being away the first week in March. Thanks for your help!

Re: IVF timeline

  • Different doctors do different things. I had to take a cycle off to get a saline sonogram/trial transfer around CD 6-10. Then I waited for AF, and the started BCPs for about 3 weeks. I'll have 3 days off, then stimulate for 12-15 days, then have the egg retrieval. Then transfer in 3-5 days.

So it's possible it might interfere with things in early March, but you really have to talk to your doctor to know for sure.
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science

    7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!
fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP!
Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)

Also, it may just mean pushing your cycle dates. If the doc is aware of your vacation, they'll plan accordingly. But if you don't want to have to potentially push it, I'd maybe hold off booking until after you know better...
Generally stimming etc. takes about a month (maybe 3 weeks?) if I'm remembering correctly, then your trigger, then retrieval and you wait 5 days(ish) before transfer, then the dreaded 2ww... so all in all maybe under 2 months-ish. It's been a while though and each and every person has a different unique protocol designed for them (although there are common similarities).

Hopefully the IUI works out for you though. fx
