Large age gaps?

Am I the only one with a large age gap? My boys are 15 and 13...and this will be my husband's first...I'm teaching my oldest to drive and expecting a baby.. everyone thinks I'm crazy for starting over, but I always wanted 4 (I had go beg my ex for 2) and my husband of course wanted kids of his own!

Re: Large age gaps?

  • You are not crazy! You will have some great helpers :)

I dont have as large of an age gap, but between my oldest and second child there are almost 5 years. He was a GREAT helper when his sister was born.

  • My oldest is 13. My middle is 2 1/2 and my youngest before this baby is 1. I have loved the age gap and help. I also think younger siblings are good experience, with the added bonus that my son does not want kids young
  • I think that's great! This pregnancy will be a whole new experience for you I am sure. Mine aren't nearly as old as yours but they will be 5 and 6 when I have this LO and it is with a different dad so it feels totally new to me. I'm happy the older two will be in school. I'll be able to have good one on one time with the baby and helpers!
  • We will have a decent age gap... my daughter will be 11 a month after baby arrives and my son will be 6. My daughter is from a previous relationship, so this will be my hubby's 2nd. But they both have been asking for a baby sister, so I'm hoping they will be excited and willing to help. My daughter will be looking forward to babysitting in a few years :)
  • I was worried about our large gap (my daughters are 16 and 10!), but they have been great! I am excited to have reliable helpers- we are sending my oldest to an infant red cross class (designed for care givers and babysitters) so that she will be able to really help with the baby.

We were so young when our daughters were born (I was 17 when our oldest came along), so this has been a completely different experience. I am loving it!

  • I have a 7 year age gap between my first two. That is a little smaller than yours, but I think it is great ! My son is such a big helper and I'm sure that your older two will be as well!
  • 16 year old son
16 mo old son (they are 15 years 3 days apart) and 6+5 weeks pregnant ;-) my oldest thinks it's hilarious-"mom you went from being the youngest mom at school to being the oldest one when the Littles will be in school" . I'm only 34 kid ,he acts like I'm ancient to be having babies lol
  • My big kids are 11 and 10. My baby is 9 months and I'm due with my 4th around August 5,2016. My big kids are wonderful helpers! The large gap between "sets of kids" has so far been very beneficial to my family.
  • My gap isn't quite as big (our kids will be 6 and 5 when the new LO comes along) but I bet it'll be nice having helpers, like many PPs have said! I don't think you're crazy, and I don't necessarily see it as "starting over" either. Your older kids are still living at home and will be for a few more years. My DH and I want four kids as well, and the first two are from previous relationships so we plan to have two more between the two of us (including the one baking in the oven right now lol). :)

  • My son will be 8 when this one is due! He is so excited to finally be a big brother
  • My daughter is 9, and my son is 16 months. He and this baby will be exactly 2 years apart... And my daughter and the baby will be 10 years apart. She has always been a HUGE help! She's very mature and probably has more responsibilities than she should but I would die without her! She has helped me immensely! I'm so thankful for her! There was ZERO jealousy. She is like a little mommy. Sometimes even too much (telling me what to do). Haha! But she watches her little brother like a hawk! She makes babas, and entertains him, she gets him his sippy cups and puts on his favorite shows. She feeds him sometimes. She's so so helpful! She knows how to do everything. Even change diapers! But I don't ask her to do that. But it's good to know that she is capable incase im not. She's even put him to sleep a few times. She's the best!
  • I'm a FTM at 28, but I have a 15 yr old brother. He was born when I was 13. All I can say is he is the glue of our whole family! Extending Christmas/Santa was so fun for us as older kids, and watching him grow up I have been like a second mama!
  • Me and my sister had a gap of 8 years and we have a great relationship. My mom used to call me her "built in baby sitter" :)

  • My daughters are 22 and 18. So there will be an almost 19 year gap between this one and my youngest AND I am already a Grandma and my 22 year old is currently pregnant also! Going to be like starting over. My girls are super excited though
  • My son will be turning 7 just shortly after this one is due. The age gap has been a concern of mine for quite some time. I have 2 younger brothers, and was quite close to them growing up. I'm worried he won't bond as much being older than his baby sis or bro.
