2nd Trimester

22 week u/s accuracy? And what does "three lines" mean?

Had my detailed ultrasound at 22weeks and the tech wouldn't tell us the gender. But she did hint saying, "three lines".

Anyone know what that hint could mean - boy or girl?

And how accurate are 22 week u/s?

Re: 22 week u/s accuracy? And what does "three lines" mean?

  • The anatomy scans are as accurate as possible in order to allow for precise measuring. If your doctor is concerned about a certain measurement or finding, they will usually refer you to get a level 2 u/s. If the baby is uncooperative, you might have to go back to have measurements re-done.

Three lines is what they show you when the baby is a girl. The genitalia of a baby girl looks like three lines on the scan.

Congratulations and I hope you have a healthy baby girl!

  • Three lines means baby girl. An ultrasound at that point will show most major concerns. I actually haven't had an ultrasound since 19 weeks because everything looked good then and I haven't had any other complications. I hope your baby is/remains healthy!

  • Agree with PPs 3 lines is a girl. By 22 weeks that is a pretty accurate scan. Is there a reason they wouldn't tell you?
  • PP have it right 3 lines is a girl. I'm also curious why they wouldn't just say "girl". At 22 weeks the info gathered is very accurate.

  • what PP's said about the sex of the baby & the accuracy of the scan.

that's really weird that they wouldn't tell you the sex at 22 weeks, but still hinted at 3 lines.. hmm.
