So DH and I are just starting to talk about names (15 weeks) and we're looking for some good baby name resources.  Do you have favorite books, websites, or apps for baby names?  I'm struggling most with boy names at the moment but have a list of girl names a mile long.

Re: Your Favorite Baby Name Resources?

  • I got "Baby Names: The Easy Way to Choose the Perfect Name for Your Baby" for my Kindle. It's a bunch of categorized lists, so I thought it was kind of nice for initial brainstorming. My husband and I just kind of read things off to each other to see if anything jumped out at us.

    Website-wise, I love Nameberry.

  • I really like baby name wizard.com because it not only tells you names, meanings, and alternative spellings, but also shows you the popularity and links to other similar names.

  • I really like the Nametrix app on my phone. It shows meanings, popularity, etc.

  • www.behindthename.com - Totally legit information on names from all over the world, including meanings, origins, alternate forms, and popularity. So many name sites are full of made up stuff (Nevaeh meaning "butterfly" lol), but Behind the Name is very reliable.

    Have fun!
  • I like nymbler.com . You can put in names that you like and it gives ideas for other names that fit well with those you like.
  • I used the social security's website to look up popular names from the 50's and earlier because I love traditional names :)
  • I use nymbler, the social security website, and the bump

  • I like the nametrix app. I started like a PP said with looking at popular names from the 20's and 30's on social security website.

  • I use behindthename.com and thinkbabynames.com for real reliable information on name meanings and origins.

Nymbler.com is a good way to get suggestions based on names you like and hate.

On the SSA website, you can look at popularity of a name not just nationally but in your state, since there can be significant differences in what is popular where.

Namenerds.com takes the SSA lists and combines different spellings and versions of the same name to generate a better national name popularity ranking.
