Lower abdomen aches?

Hi all! I am finally at the 14 week mark, and so excited about it! :) I literally had my doctor appointment yesterday and all was fine - heart beating at about 155 bpm!

So of course, when I got home, I developed what seems to be a new symptom that hasn't yet gone away today. My lower abdomen is achey. Almost like menstrual cramp achey, though more localized. It's hard to say if it's smack in the center or a little to one side, but there is a definite ache on and off since yesterday. This pain isn't enough to slow me down or anything, but its got me concerned. I researched round ligament pain, but it seems like that is more of a shooting pain when moving? This ache is felt most when I'm just sitting around.

No spotting or anything else abnormal.

Could this just be my uterus expanding or something else totally normal? Or should I call in to my doctor? Any advice is appreciated!

Re: Lower abdomen aches?

  • I'm 13+5 and in addition to RLP I have felt achy in the lower abdominal area, I just attribute it to growing/stretching things out down there... I haven't asked a doctor. It is sometimes uncomfortable but hasn't been enough to hinder me doing anything so I just assumed it was normal :)

  • I had something I wouldn't really call aches, but full on cramps. Then I started spotting at the same time so I went to the doctor. They did an ultrasound and everything was fine. You might want to go to the doctor though...
  • I'm 13+4 and yesterday I had some aching out of nowhere in my lower abdomen but it didn't last very long. You can always call your doctor just to be sure!
  • Thanks, all. I went ahead and called my doctor, since I know her office will be closed until Monday. The nurse seems certain that it's nothing more than RLP/general growing of the uterus. Does that seem right to you all? The pain is just so similar to what I would get right before a period, it's a bit unnerving! The doctor asked my pain level on a scale of 1-10, and I guessed about a 2.5-3.
  • If the dr doesn't seem concerned at this point I wouldn't worry, but if the pain changes or becomes worrisome to you I would definitely go to the ER or urgent care.
  • Yep-I'm feeling the same, and had it around 14-16 weeks with my other two pregnancies. Just stretching/growing pains.

  • I'm 17 weeks and am having an achy crampy week in my lower abdomen too. It feels like mild period cramps, so I'm assuming its RLP. I've had on and off mild cramping like this throughout the pregnancy. As my doctor says "your uterus is basically working out 24/7... it's bound to get crampy and sore like any other muscle"
  • I've been achey and crampy throught this whole pregnancy so far... Nothing too extreme but enough so that it makes me anxious. I had no clue this was a pregnancy symptom before getting pregnant! Glad to know I'm not alone though :)
  • I'm so glad that you created this topic. I've had the same thing this past week. Lower achy pain, mostly at work or when I get up. It was starting to make me nervous. I've not had any spotting though. Glad to know it's most likely RLP.

  • The reason the cramps were scary for me was because I never had cramps during my period (that part is lucky I guess)...the only other time I remember this feeling is when I had my miscarriage. But I'm glad other people have experienced it too!
