Postpartum Bleeding

Okay, so I did a search and didn't turn up much info, so I hope this isn't a repeat question. And hopefully no one is bothered by talking about bleeding, if so, sorry. I know its not as fun as talking about our cute babies!

How long did you ladies bleed for after giving birth?

I ask because I'm now 7 weeks out and I've had about 3 consecutive days with no bleeding whatsoever (at about 6 weeks exactly), but it started back up to relatively heavy bleeding. And everything I hear is "up to 6 weeks of bleeding is totally normal." I'm not asking for medical advice, I will consult with my doctor. I am just kind of curious as to what you ladies have experienced

With ds1 and ds2 a good 8 weeks and it was quite heavy.

DD has been off and on since day 2 . 4 weeks PP now.

Could be your cycle coming back too

I bled for about 2-3wks and then it stopped and now at 5wks PP it started again. I'm a FTM too so idk if this is normal or if it's my period starting again.

I'm just now (mostly) done bleeding at five weeks out. I have noticed that if I physically over do it, I start to spot a bit still.

With my first- which was a c-section- I bled for 6 full weeks. It was light for the last 2ish weeks but I still needed a liner.
This time- a VBAC- I only bled for 2 weeks and the last few days of that I only needed a liner. I've spotted a few times since but I've been shocked at how much lighter my bleeding has been.

This is pretty common. It's likely just the bleeding coming back a little. If you're BFing it's very slim that your cycle will come back that soon.

I bled for 2 weeks and then it turned much lighter bleeding, I've been wearing a pantiliner since then. I'll be 6 weeks Friday.

I'm actually so angry that LO is going to be a month old on Saturday and I'm still bleeding! No one told me that! Everyone said it lasts for 2-3 weeks but obviously not lol.

I had heavier bleeding for about 2-3 weeks, then went down to liners. I wasn't wearing anything most of this week (5w pp), but started bleeding again this morning.

@sadyy131 I've always been told that it lasts 4-6 weeks. I've never heard only 2 weeks unless you get really lucky. Sometimes it lasts even longer than 6 weeks

@sadyy131 did your doctor tell you 2-3 weeks? I think the rest of us have all been under the impression that it lasts longer. Maybe some research on it would help. I know the health nurse also informed me that my flow would be heavier for 2-3 weeks and disappear and then come back as a light period. Which is exactly what's happened. Don't stress or be upset. The average woman bleeds longer than 2 weeks.

Not sure if you're breastfeeding but this is a thing apparently. I stopped bleeding a few weeks ago, was enjoying no pads of any sort, then a few days ago it looked like I'd started my period. I had it with both of my other children, who I also EBF. It makes a lot of sense... With my other two I would then go on to have no periods at all until I finished bfeeding

I am 9.5 weeks post partum. I bled for 2-3 weeks (very light for the last week). Got my period around 4.5 to 5 and just had my second period at about 8.5 weeks (right on schedule for my cycle). EBF is not always a guarantee that you won't get your period. Some people are lucky like that. Some aren't.

4 weeks PP and still have light spotting and sometimes bright red blood.
It sucks, can't wait for it to be over or to get back on birth control!
Prior to conceiving my baby, I took my birth control with no placebo pills for the past 3 years so no periods ever, yea! Does anyone have experience with this while breastfeeding? Are you able to do this with the mini pill?

I am unable to bf so exclusively formula feeding. I bled for 4 weeks. I am 7 weeks now and started bleeding yesterday. Aunt Flow wanted to stop by for the holidays, I guess! Forgot how annoying she is

There are no placebo pills with the mini pill. You'll have to get your period when it comes. No stopping it unfortunately. The mini pill is all progesterone and all it does is thicken the mucus so sperm can't get through. (My midwife suggested taking it opposite when you usually have sex so the mucus is its thickest. So if you usually have sex at night take the pill in the morning)

@taykerslake I don't recall my doctor ever saying anything, but the nurse at the hospital said that it should be 2-3 weeks. From what it looks like though I guess she was wrong.

Sounds more like starting your period, which is entirely possible past 6W PP. I already had my first one.

I posted yesterday about this, but the bleeding that started yesterday is getting pretty heavy and I've had clots as well.

Besides the fact that it's a holiday, my job/ insurance ended last Fri. I will call my midwives if this keeps up (also 3+ hr out of town), but my new insurance won't start until the new year. Fx it's not a big deal.

For those that had the 6th week bleed, how long did it last and what variances did you have? I.e. Color/flow etc. Im very confused by this and my checkup is at 8 weeks as opposed to 6 weeks (lame)

I'm also in the same boat, do you have any feedback from your midwife? I have a doc apt tomorrow for my
DD so may mention it. Pp bleeding went away last week but now I started bleeding again and quite heavy with clotting.

I've read everyone's experience on how long their postpartum bleeding lasted and mine was about 6 weeks and then at the 7th week I had my first period return. Since then I have had a very light brown sometimes yellowish mucus that requires a liner to be worn every day. (oh and BTW I'm now at 11 weeks postpartum) I haven't seen anyones comments discuss this. Anyone also experience? I've read some things online that say this could happen and other sites don't mention it at all.

I had a c-section and had bleeding until about 4 weeks (always worse while brestfeeding). Since then its been all clear until 3 days ago when I started spotting (I guess)- its light brown when I wipe. I'm thinking it could be my period...? but Im exclusively BF, I thought I wasnt supposed to until I stop or slow down BF? It also hasnt gotten worse...anyone had a similar experience?

I'm 11 weeks. Bled through 8.5 weeks. Then nothing for 2 days. Then my period for 5 days. Then nothing for 1.5 weeks. Now, I'm bleeding again! Also, been tracking ovulation so I don't get pregnant right now and had the EW CM and a positive ovulation test Thursday, but the this bleeding started Sat. I'm sooooo confused as well!

I bled for 2 weeks and spotted for the 3rd. My baby is 12 weeks today and still no sign of a period. I EBF.

Mine's still on and off. I was doing well until I got my IUD put in. Now I'm back at it. It's super frustrating and it's not even my period
