Baby Acne?

I used the search bar and didn't find anything on this. Do any of you ladies have experience with baby acne? And if so what did you use to clear it up? A couple days ago my son started getting little numbs but now they have gotten way out of hand! It's like he has a million little tiny bumps all over his face, a and it's driving me crazy. I tried to attach a photo but my phone won't let me

  • Breastmilk! It seems to help dry skin and acne..maybe its the lactic acid? Maybe its in my head!
  • My little guy has it pretty bad! It's kind of funny
Breastmilk and cold water is what I've been doing. It's helped, but I haven't been super on top of it lately.
  • Also baby acne is a thing that's just gonna happen. It'll bother you a heck of a lot more than them since they don't notice it. There are plenty of times I just want to pop those white heads (but don't do it!!)
  • My son had baby acne during weeks 4 and 5 I think. It cleared up on its own. Heat seemed to make the bumps more prominent. Overall though, it never seemed to bother him. It just wasn't his best looking moment! Don't let it drive you crazy.
  • You can wash their face with warm water twice a day and pat dry. That should help, but it will clear up on its own.
  • Dr said it will just go away on its own. Just use a mild soap and lotion so it doesn't get worse. She said there is really nothing that will clear it up.
  • We have it here .. showed up last week. I feel so bad for her but doctor confirmed it's just acne and that it will go away on its own.

We have it pretty bad , I'm hoping it goes away soon

  • My LO has a mild case of it going on for about 2 weeks now. Some days it's barely there and other days it's here and there on her face. It doesn't bother her and I just wash her with warm water once a day. I squirted breast milk on one area and it didn't improve any faster than other areas. I also read that milk on their face can cause acne so I figured I'd better just leave it alone. It can last for months but really isn't a big deal.
  • Our Pedi told us to use hydrocortisone on our LO twice a day for his face & it was a dramatic difference overnight!! But before I did that I used the Aveeno Eczema Baby line on him & it was helping. Doc just told us to use the cream when we went for out 1 month check up. I also still put the Aveeno eczema lotion on his face each diaper change. I know it's a lot but his face looks almost back to normal now and we barely started this 2 days ago.
  • Hydrocortisone helped my little one.
  • Mustela physiobebe 100%. My LO had tons of bumps on her forehead, and it cleared up in about two days using this once day and night. I've been using it ever since and no bumps. Plus I use it to clean her neck on days she doesn't get a bath for milk residue to keep her fresh. It's pricey but worth it.
  • Ok so my LO got this exact thing on her face. My pediatrician said it wasn't baby acne but actually the same kind of fungus that causes babies to get cradle cap. She said it's common in infants but usually it presents as cradle cap on infants not bumps and bumps on adults. Anyway, she gave me antifungal and steroids for 10 day use. She usually doesn't prescribe for it but our case was causing LO discomfort. It was completely cleared in less than 2 and it hasn't come back at all yet. So it's worth a call to your pedi if it doesn't subside like my LO'S wouldn't. I will say my LO also had the rash on her scalp and head and neck too idk if yours does.
  • My little darling has it pretty bad as well, has been about 1 week now. Looks horrible doesn't it :( I have been lathering him in organic unrefined coconut oil after a bath. Its 100% natural and chemical free which i love for our precious baby sensitive skin. It is antibacterial and anti fungal. Seems to be helping, will also do winders for cradle cap - Goodluck! xx
  • Found out that it was the draft laundry detergent breaking him out! Changed to All Free & Clear and now his skin is clearing up

Yes, I did everything before I found out hers was not acne. Changed soap to no soap to coconut oil to breast milk and the list goes on. Nothing was working. So eventually took her to the pediatrician and got meds. Hope he gets better quickly.
  • DS has it as well, for about two weeks. It's getting better on its own, although the bumps just spread to his chest in the last day or so. It looks worse when he's warm or has been crying, but it doesn't seem to bother him.

Anecdotally, it got better at my parent's house over the holidays, when we were in a more humid home. Our rowhome is very dry.

Same! Except mine is Cheer. Finally figured out he was only breaking out when I put him on blankets that had not been washed since I switched to free and clear.

It's crazy how something so simple can break them out
  • I can't help but find it funny that wonderful baby specific laundry that you just have to wash their clothes in ended up being what was "bad" for them
  • My LO got it all over her face I assume it was baby acne. But one day I notice behind her ear she had a sticky fluid n it kind of looked yellowish. I freak out and took her to a Dr . She told me my baby had an allergic reaction to something that is what gave her the bumps and it got so bad that it gave her a infection. I remember the night before I kept on rubbing her ear with Babyganics lotion because it was dry (same lotion I been putting on her face). Dr. gave me some antiobotic ointment for her ear. I stopped using the lotion and her skin cleared. You might wanna double check and take your baby to the doctor just to make sure it's nothing serious.
  • Does this look like baby acne she didn't have it last night..I texted my mom but she's being slow lol
  • My LO has had a few acne bumps here and there on his face that seem to come and go. My pedi suggested we use a warm washcloth to rinse his face, but not any soap or other products just yet. But I can certainly understand why you'd want to try other options if it were casing LO discomfort.
  • @mcdoug211 my son looked like that! I thought it was acne, but I kept spreading. I took him to the doctor and she said it was a skin reaction. She had us switch to dove white and aquaphor lotion to rule out baby products. She also said to watch my lotions and perfumes. I'm pretty sure it was a reaction the laundry soap I used prebaby ( our bed blankets had been washed in it).
  • @cdepperschmidt oh no! It hasn't gotten any worse and we've used the same soaps and laundry stuff this whole time but I will definitely keep an eye out now thank you!
