Heartburn!!!

I'm not sure if anyone has posted about this, but I am 12 weeks 3 days and I feel like I'm going to die because of this crazy heart burn!!!
Anyone have any suggestions or tips to help with this nasty feeling??

Re: Heartburn!!!

  • I've had it since I was 6 days pregnant and its a nightmare. Some days are worse than others but it's pretty much constant.
Milk helps temporarily. Tums too sometimes. But I can't get rid of it for good. I think if I returned to a low carb diet it might pass but I'm having major aversions to protein at the moment and I can't stomach much besides carbs.

  • I tried the milk and it only helps for about 10 mins or so. I've had more nausea then heart burn but the nausea just ended for me last week and I've had heartburn since! :(
  • What does heartburn feel like? I've described the feeling to my mom and she said it was heartburn but I'm not sure, my moms info on medical things isn't always reliable lol

I'm curious to what heart burn feels like too. I don't get the "burning" feeling but I get a stabbing sharp pain in my chest. Is that heartburn or indigestion?
  • I haven't had it with this pregnancy, but my other two. Try chewing gum, it helps keep things flowing the right way.

  • Try not to skip a meal, it will only make u feel more heart burn n nauseous. Try saltine crackers. It helps me at time.
  • At first I try warm milk, then try eating saltines, and if that fails I eat a couple of tums. My Dr did warn me though to only take 2 a day due to the risk of kidney stones. Definitely want to avoid those at all costs.

  • anything I eat for the nausea, like ginger, intensifies the heartburn so it's a vicious cycle.  it feels like.....fire in your chest.  Fiery swords.
  • Milk, tums, prop pillows up behind your shoulders and head when you sleep (I practically sit up!) and if all that fails and I am in super pain, Pepcid ac

  • UGH this heartburn is the worst! When I have it, it makes my morning sickness worse, and I end up throwing up. I have been living on Pepcid twice a day. Milk helps, and I prefer my milk to take form as ice cream. Try and stay away from foods that are too acidic or spicy.
  • Yes! Zantac and Tums! And sleeping propped up/ sitting up for 30 mins after eating. I have GERD to begin with so my heartburn is super out of control right now. This is probably TMI but I'm burping acid all of the time and it's so painful!!

I should mention though be careful taking acid reducing meds with your prenatals because it can lower your stomach pH and make it harder for your body to break down and absorb your vitamins!
  • My doctor told me it was safe to take Gaviscon and I find it works way better than Tums. They are tablets that kind of foam up and neutralize the acid. They are kind of chalky and not the most pleasant tasting but they worked for me during my first pregnancy when I would wake up gagging on stomach acid from reflux and they've helped now with the first trimester heartburn.
  • Prilosec OTC---you only have to take it once a day. It's a life saver!

  • Listen I'm not even going to pretend this works for everyone, but my hands-down go to cure for heartburn is two spoonfuls of dill pickle juice.

Mine has all but gone away when I cut out all soda, coffee, tea, and only drink water. I still have an occasional pop but since I've cut so far back it's been amazing.
  • ^wss! Carbonated beverages were my worst enemy last pregnancy. I'm going to skip them this time around! If you find you are drinking a lot of carbonated drinks, try cutting them out and see if it helps!

  • I found Gatorade to be a huge culprit for my heartburn.  It took me four times of drinking it then getting terrible reflux before I put 2 + 2 together!
