I'm just wondering if anyone has taken pills made from their placenta? If so, how did it work for you? I'm planning on doing it and want as much information as possible.
My friends that did it swear by it, so I think the evidence is mainly anecdotal. The main priority is whoever you have do it make sure they are qualified and do the process in a proper/sterile setting. I don't have anyone in my area I trust with it so I won't be doing it but if you do i say it can't hurt!
Google search for birth doula's in your area. Many doula's are certified and have gone through the proper training required to encapsulate properly. I didn't for my first, and did for my second - it was night and day. Obviously there's a lot of people who think it's complete and utter crap. But for every naysayer, you'll find someone who swears by it.
Kim K decided to do it. Usually if Kim K is endorsing something, I run as far as I can from it. However, I think placental encapsulation is really beneficial and I'm happy to see if becoming more mainstream.
I did it with my first and will definitely be doing it again this time. I could tell a huge difference between days I took the pills and days that I forgot.
Those of you saying night and day- can you expand on what you mean? I'm very ignorant of the benefits and honestly a little afraid to do my own research on it, but curious what you mamas get from it?

I felt super emotional on the days that I didn't take the pill. Don't get me wrong. I was pretty emotional the first few weeks postpartum. But I felt a lot more stable and down to earth on days that I took the placenta pills. I guess I just felt more normal and more like me.
There was one day 4 or 5 weeks after baby was born that I was having a rough day and my husband very politely asked if I had taken the placenta pill that day. I hadn't. I was surprised that even he noticed a difference.
Currently no clinical trials or scientific research to back up that this works...but if you want to spend your money on it there's no damage to be done, other than you potentially wasting your money...my personal opinion is that there are a lot of people out there ready to make a quick buck out of new mums who are naturally worried and want the best for them nd their baby...some of these things may work out to be worthwhile, but most of them are just money making schemes.
NMS but you'll read a lot of personal stories of moms who swear by them when researching it. I think it's psychosomatic, but hey, even if it is, who cares? Whatever works, right? I struggled quite a bit with post partum anxiety with my two older kids, and it is terrible.
I'll be using progesterone cream this go-round to hopefully smooth out the hormones and mood swings. It's a nice alternative for those who are squicky with placenta pills, plus the cream is affordable. If that fails, I've already alerted DH, my sister, mom, MIL, and OB to be on the lookout and intervene if I can't do it myself.
