Anxiety and depression moms: important update

Hi! This is a few days old, but a really important corrective to those articles that linked SSRIs to increased risk of autism:

https://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/8824334

Lots of reasons why that study was flawed, the biggest (to me) being that they compared moms who used SSRIs with all moms who didn't, not moms who had gone off SSRIs.

And they didn't look at clinically-diagnosed autism: if you use those numbers instead, there is *no* increased risk of autism with use of SSRIs.

  • PS: I started a new thread because that other one was FUBAR.

  • Thank you so much for this article!!
  • Thanks for the article!
  • They also only looked at prescriptions that were written, not who actually took the medication. The article sure hasn't made me want to stop taking me SSRI. Even if the methodology was flawless, I'll take the very slightly increased risk of autism over being severely depressed.
  • The increase was also marginal at best. Yes it increases your risk by as much as 85%...to a whopping half a percent risk total.

Not even that much, according to this article, since the methodology is so skewed.

And there was no control, looking to see if there were lower rates among women who stopped taking SSRIs. Autism, depression, and anxiety, are all partially genetic, so that is a major oversight!
