Uterine artery notching anyone ?

Today the ultrasound tech told me that I have uterine artery notching which from what I can understand is a narrowing or bending of my uterine arteries that can restrict blood flow to the baby. They told me to start taking a baby aspirin daily as a blood thinning precaution and to follow up with my OB - next appointment is January 13th. Does anyone else have this and did it effect your pregnancy in any way? From what I read it can put you at increased risk for preeclampsia and small babies. And cue all the nerves ...

  • I'm sorry that you're going through this. I have no advice but just wanted to offer support.

  • @BostonBaby1 thank you. I may call my OB tomorrow and fill them in.
  • I'm not sure- I'm only 12 weeks and from what I've seen is that if they find it sooner and start you on anticoags then it decreases your risk of pre-e by 50%. I'm just nervous now because the other thing I read said that by finding this I'm essentially considered high risk now...
Thank you so much for your story @PugsandKisses
  • Resurrecting this thread to see if anyone else has been told they have this in the last three weeks now that more of us have finished a NT scan. I'm supposed to see my doctor tomorrow and I'm getting nervous.
  • I wouldn't worry about being considered high risk. I had pre-e (entered my first pregnancy on Bp meds) and still carried to almost 38 weeks and she was a perfectly healthy baby. I feel like labeling anyone high risk just stresses you out more than anything. Just my two cents. As long as your dr isn't too concerned and you have a plan of action and goals, I wouldn't worry too much.
  • Thank you for the vote of confidence @LaurenAsh23
  • I still don't know anything about the condition, but I just wanted to reassure you that I am high risk for multiple reasons. Being high risk sounds very scary at first, but really what they do is they keep a very close eye on you. Essentially, you just got a lot of extra attention. And being with an MFM is great for any condition. I also wanted to let you know that I take the blood thinner Lovenox. We have a thread going on that as well.

It really means nothing at this point. It is considered 'normal ' prior to 22 weeks, and in several normal healthy pregnancies even at 16 weeks.

Please relax. 1) you can't change things 2) at this point, it is means nothing.
    Thank God for Raid.

  • I'm not going to lie @PugsandKisses this morning I wanted to tell you how telling someone to relax is the worst thing you can say- but that was fueled by emotional feelings and anxiety about being told I have something wrong and lingering on it without enough info...

To update- I talked to my doctor this afternoon and he was a little ticked that they diagnosed me with this so early. He said it's because I got my NT at a fetal assessment specialist so they report more findings. He said to stop the aspirin and that it's not a big deal and we will follow up with my anatomy scan at 19 weeks and see if it's still there and make decisions from that point.

So thanks again ladies for trying to talk me off the ledge when I was really upset and worried over nothing. Appreciate all of your confidence and support while dealing with this the last few weeks ! Lots of love to y'all ! Feeling much better this afternoon
