Hi all,
Apologies in advance for the long post but I could really use some support-
I had a saline ultrasound and HSG done this week and did not get the results I had hoped for.
A little background- I got a BFN after my second medicated IUI earlier this month. During my follie scan before my IUI my nurse saw "something" in my ultrasound and ordered the saline u/s.
Fast forward to Monday- I went in for the U/S and a 12x9 mm polyp was found in the uterine cavity. My Dr didn't seem overly concerned as he said it's not uncommon but since we are TTC he suggested a hysteroscopy to remove the polyp. He also mentioned that this could be the reason we are having a hard time TTC but can't say with 100% certainty. The hysteroscopy is scheduled for Jan.13. Not the result I wanted but there is a plan. Yesterday I had my HSG as I have not been able to get in for one and figured since this month was a testing month, I decided to go for it. The procedure itself was painless and easy but unfortunately they were not able to get a good view of my tubes and the dye was not going in and of course the polyp wasn't helping as it was obstructing the images. Since the dye wasn't going through, the nurse thought maybe my tubes were having a spasm. I got an email from my Dr and spoke with him this morning and he suggested we do a tubal cannulation to see if the tubes are in fact blocked as he thinks more than likely that is the case and if they are blocked attempt to open them up. Unfortunately- they are all booked up in January so it may have to wait till February. I was instructed to call back first week of January when I start my period. At this point we may not be able to resume treatment until late February or March.
I am very overwhelmed with all of this and very frustrated. The polyp was one thing but I was really hoping for an all clear on the HSG. I am so upset and have been crying since yesterday. This was all so unexpected. Everything thus far has been going pretty smooth with our treatments, I think all of this has caught me off guard.
Has anyone experienced any of these procedures or have any knowledge about these? Any insight is appreciated and welcome.
Thank you.
Re: Hysteroscopy and tubal cannulation questions after not great test results- any insight is welcome
I can totally relate to the feeling of being caught off guard. After 7 months of TTC I went to my OB for an annual and she told me she thought I had a fibroid. She immediately recommended me to an RE and I had my hysteroscopy scheduled before I knew it. It definitely threw me off for a bit, but I have an RE that is wonderful and I feel like we're able to discuss next steps that he feels will get us the end result of a pregnancy, without taking more aggressive steps than we're comfortable with. The time that you'll have to wait before trying again is the most frustrating part, but it's good to know that you have a plan.
The hysteroscopy should be a really easy procedure, and there's no real downtime. Best of luck!
The whole surgery took about an hour, maybe a tad longer. I felt pretty normal with in a couple of days, with the exception of needing to take it easier at the gym. We didn't have to wait at all to start trying again after the procedure, which was nice.
It does suck to have to wait even longer, and I feel for you there!
