Update : Small streak of blood... Result : subchorionic hematoma

On my second trip to the restroom this AM, I wiped to find a bright red watery streak of blood on the toilet paper. I'm trying not to totally freak but I had a dream last night that I had started to bleed and ultimately lost the baby. Since then, i've been crampy - not overwhelmingly so but enough that i'm concerned - and the reminder of my dream definitely does not help. The only other time i've bled this pregnancy is after sex...which we haven't had in over a week.

When should I call the doctor? I'm trying not to be paranoid but I really want the reassurance of an u/s right now. My next one is next Tuesday & I feel like i'm going to be panicking throughout the holiday until then... I'm 10wks 3 days.

Update : after hours spent in the ER and a super intensive u/s I was diagnosed with a small subchorionic hematoma  - which means there is a bleed between my placenta and uterus. I thankfully had the sweetest u/s tech who showed me baby's heartbeat so I had that peace of mind before this news. ER doc said this is fairly normal but does slightly increase my risk of miscarriage. It should heal itself and then I guess the risk goes away so needless to say I'm nervous and anxious. I am waiting to hear about next steps from my OB who was in surgery when I was discharged. For now I'm taking it super easy with modified bed rest and praying the bleeding stops and I can get to 12 wks and be healed. I was on bed rest my last pregnancy for preterm labor so I at least know how hat goes.. But it's much harder with a 2yo that doesn't understand why I can't pick her up. Trying to stay optimistic ... Thoughts and prayers would be amazing. Thank you

  • You can call now if you are panicking. Hopefully it's not too serious and they can see you asap.

  • If it is enough that you are concerned I would call. It doesn't hurt to call and hopefully they can get you in so you aren't sitting at home worrying.
  • I'd call now. While it might be nothing, it's always good to check.
  • Thank you... my ob's office opens in 15min. I'll call right away. I'm really praying this is nothing... thoughts & prayers please.

  • Sending lots of thoughts and prayers to you. Please update us when you can?
  • I hope everything is OK. I had the same thing happen to me last week. I had an u/s and everything looked good. I am hoping you also get positive results!
  • Update us when you get a chance. I had the same thing like Sunday and was in the depths of despair, but it wasn't enough for me to go to the ER, but I didn't know the irrational thoughts were so real. It did not continue in Monday, so so called it a fluke (never had spotting with our DD). Baby's HR was 174 when we went for our US on Friday. Prayers!
  • I hope everything is ok!

I was diagnosed yesterday with the exact same thing. Thankfully it happened the same morning as my 12 wk checkup. My ob was really fantastic about it though, he had me laughing in five minutes. The only thing he told me to do cut the exercise to one short walk a day (a necessity with my two dogs), and no sex for a couple weeks.

Mine measured a full inch and is located under the placenta, which I was told was actually on the larger scale. The plus side is that they said they will most likely monitor with ultrasounds at my check ups until it goes away. Yay for more baby time! Yesterday the little one was jumping around like a bouncy ball.
