birth plan!!!

Have any mommies used a birth plan?? I'm currently 3 days from 8 months pregnant and I have specific preferences for my baby boy when he's born/ during labor should everything go smoothly and doc said to write up a birth plan. Should I type it? Write it? I have no clue what to do! Help!

  • You can write or type it. I'm sure typed would be most preferred for easier reading by the nursing staff. If you google birth plan, a lot of templates will show up and you can fill in the blanks.

  • Have you had a hospital tour yet or learned about their practices at all? After reading a lot on these boards I felt like I needed one, but when I heard all the great things about my hospital, I no longer feel the need.  They already do a lot of the things I was concerned about like delayed cord clamping, protecting mom & dads time with baby for the first hour, only cut when necessary, etc. I felt like hearing this was hugely comforting and would also help if I decide to write one because I can leave so much off.

My hospital is in a somewhat rural area (only has 4 birthing rooms!) so I'm not sure if this is becoming the case across the country or if I'm just lucky.

I typed one out last time, since my doctor asked for a copy in advance, then I gave a copy to the midwives at the hospital who were tending to me, and I had to submit a copy to the "master" of the hospital (that's a thing in Ireland) because I wanted to take my placenta with me. So, easier to print out a bunch.
  • I've never written a birth plan, but my list of requests has always been short. This time: Hoping for waterbirth, like to be left alone and not touched or talked to unless necessary, please don't offer pain meds unless I ask. Maybe I'll write that down, but probably not.

  • There's a really helpful birth plan template on the Earth Mama Angel Baby website. That's what I used to do my birth plan and it was also suggested to me by my doula friend who taught a birth class my H and I went to.
  • My birth plan is to have a baby. Lol
  • This is my 3rd baby- and the best advice to all FTM's is keep an open mind. Make your birth plan, but do NOT feel upset if it doesn't work the way you wanted it too :), it's really ok! Good luck mama's :)
