Watery discharge

I am 35 weeks 4 days. I have read that it is normal to have an increase in discharge at this point. But is it normal for it to be more clear and like water? I have read so many different things. That it could be fluid leaking or just normal. Anyone experiencing anything like this? I go to the dr Tuesday so I will ask him more about it then.

Re: Watery discharge

  • I would call and ask no matter what because any time there's a change its smart to let your doctor know and then let the professionals decide if it's normal or not. BUT, I've had watery discharge twice this pregnancy and both times it turned out to be the beginning of BV, which still needs to be addressed ASAP.

  • This happened to me last Sunday and I delivered my son three days later.  I noticed clear fluid and took it as discharge and/or me peeing myself.  Turns out, it was my water.  I waited all day to call the on-call Dr. because by the third time noticing it and having to change my underwear because not even the panty liner was keeping it from going through, I was advised to go to L&D and have it checked.  When in doubt, call.  I can't imagine going to work (I almost was just going to take my instinct of it being pee or discharge and not even call) or waiting out a day or two for confirmation at my Dr.'s of what it could be, knowing that I was leaking fluid and could have put baby and myself at harm, had I ignored it for a couple of days.
  • I'm 36 + 2 and I've noticed this over the last couple days. I called my Dr Friday (of course just as he was leaving the office for the day) so I got in touch with the on call from the practice who had me go into L&D. She assured me if there is every a change that makes you question if its your water best to be checked out. Luckily for me with was just an increase of healthy discharge. Long story short. I would call because as they say, "better safe than sorry". And I'm enjoying the peace of mind.
  • with my first I was having an increase of watery discharge and it was in fact my water that had broken. It was just a slow leak because baby's head engaged enough that he was blocking the fluids from "gushing" out. I know of knew it was my water because I was soaking through panty liners every hour or two. I was 37+1. Labor didn't start for me until 7 or 8 hours after my water broke, and even then contractions were very mild for the first few hours. I would have thought nothing of them had I not been fairly confident that my water was broken.

might as well be checked out, certainly can't hurt.
  • I've had this before this pregnancy too and had BV also so go get it checked! Good luck.
  • I have this and was tested last week - not waters but I was positive for thrush - they decided not to treat it though as I have no other symptoms other than the discharge, no itching or discomfort which is good. I'm 37+3 now and the discharge is still increasing in volume, I had my waters checked on a scan a few days ago and they're fine, no leaks. More discharge is normal in late pregnancy as your body prepares for labour, but if you're worried please go and get checked, it won't take very long and will reassure you.
