2nd Trimester

weight gain

Hi guys

i am almost 19 weeks and have found that my thighs bum and boobs are huge. I went from a size 8 to a 14 and my boobs have gone from a DD to G. People dont even think im pregnant and that i just look fat (those that dont know me) because my belly has tripled in size but as everything else is huge it appears to be small in comparison. I am just ranting as this is new to me and makes me feel unattractive. I walk like a penguin because my thighs are touching and my back is aching. My diet is the same as always. I noticed i avoid going out because im embarrased and uncomfy. Are there any others out there going through this?

Re: weight gain

  • there are actually quite a few threads already started about weight gain & what each of us are experiencing. unfortunately, I'm on mobile so i cant attach a link.

I've experienced weight gain in all the same places as well. i went.from 110lbs to currently 136lbs. it's hard seeing the scale go up, but it's a reminder that baby is healthy & growing.

  • I'm sorry to hear that you are so uncomfortable . You are definitely not alone in feeling uncomfortable with your changing body. Just remember it's all for an important cause! You are still as beautiful as always .

  • I feel your pain! And as someone who has been focused on eating healthy, working out, and staying lean for years previous to pregnancy, it is SUPER hard to see the physical changes. Its a daily battle to accept my new body image. It helps to remind myself that 1. It will all be worth it in the end for a healthy baby. 2. All the extra weight WILL come off with a little extra work on my part.

Its never fun to have to lose extra weight afterwards, but it is possible if you want it. :) I already have a nutrition plan in place and time scheduled with a personal trainer after the baby is born (I am giving my self 8 weeks post partum before my first session). I have struggled with my weight for a long time thanks to Thyroid issues, and I know what it will take to lose the weight so I want to get on top of it ASAP.

  • I'm 15 weeks and 4 days I started at 143 lbs and now I'm 145 lbs but I move a lot all day
  • It seems unlikely that at 19 weeks your belly has tripled in size and other areas have more than tripled in size, yet your diet has remained the same. Have you tried exercising? I understand it's hard to deal with our changing bodies as some of it is out of our control, but there are still some things that are in our control. Don't give up!
  • Mumberry makes really great maternity clothes that have built-in belly support :) They grow with your bump! They have them on their website and on Amazon!
  • Gaining the weight SUCKS!!!  That's all there is to it.  Has your doctor expressed any concern at all?  I'm sorry you're stressing over it - I completely understand.  It is possible your body might be having some kind of allergy to something it maybe normally didnt?
I had a friend who gained quite a bit of weight while breastfeeding because it turns out her body chemistry changed and she was having allergic reactions by gaining weight to soooo many things.  You might look in to that.
The only think I can offer is all of our bodies are unique and we all gain/lose differently.

  • I feel ya lady!  I've always been athletic and fairly petite.. and i feel like i'm gaining a TON.  i keep looking at my belly wondering how it's still going to get BIGGER!
and the place my pants are tightest is my thighs, which seems wholly unfair.

I just started a prenatal fitness routine with a trainer, as i know i may not be able to continue running or other more rigorous physical activity after a while, and wanted to have something immeidately in place.  (plus i hope it will keep me strong for the birth and recovery)

in the meantime, when i feel like a whale, i try to wear sexy shoes so people look at my feet and not the rest of me!  fingers crossed i can wear heels comfortably for a while.
