C Section incision

this question is for any 2nd time mommies out there that had a c section. I am trying to pack my hospital bag and everything i read says make sure you have underwear and pants that hit above your incision site only i don't have any idea where that will be how low do they usually make it? i have a drs appt on tues and plan to ask my dr approximately where he plans to cut but I would really like to get this bag packed tomorrow. any help would be appreciated

Re: C Section incision

  • My incision is right above my pubic bone. I have never worn anything that sits that low personally. I would recommend pants and underwear that come up at least half way between your pubic bone and your belly button.

Lurking from d15. I just had my third csection, and my incision is extremely low. I'd say it is just above the hairline. Standard "granny panties" should suffice.
  • Mine was below all underwear and a bikini line. It never showed in bathing suits. Any of your maternity pants will do. Or if you have loose sweats.I'm debating on what pants to wear home too. With my first I just wore a dress home in September.
  • That panty liner tip is great @RunnerMeg! I wish I had known that 5 years ago.

I wore my regular underwear and some yoga pants home after my c section. I think I am one of very few people who hates those mesh panties!
  • My incision is actually slightly below the hairline, so quite low. I usually wear pretty low slung underpants and my incision is always covered. I wore slightly higher cut regular underpants and a pair of my DHs old pajamas home.

Mine is also very low, right at the hairline. The mesh underwear the I give you in the hospital, or any other regular underwear will be fine. Once you're home, pantiliners work great for covering the incision. Just stick the sticky side to the inside of your underwear and you're good to go. No shifting gauze or gross medical tape to hold the gauze in place.
This is what the hospital had me do when I was getting dressed to leave. It really worked out great.

  • Thanks ladies! I think I have everything I need if it's that low.
