  I mean, they're probably just saying things other people are going to think and just not tell you to your face.

  As one of the people who post there, it really doesn't bother me what name you give your kid, just own it. No name is ever going to be universally liked, whether it's Charlotte or Kinszley, so if you really like it own it and accept that other people feel differently or pick a new name.

  What's the point of getting opinions on a name, if you only want opinions that agree with you?

  My TTC History:

  2009: missed miscarriage #1 at 9 weeks (trisomy 16)
  2010: Infertility

  2011: Diagnosis and treatment (low sperm count, anastrozole for DH, clomid for me + IUI)

  2012: Baby #1

  2014: Baby #2
  October 2015: missed miscarriage #2 at 11 weeks (trisomy 22)

  I like the Baby Names board. They'll tell it to you straight! I take choosing a name really seriously, and I want to get honest opinions from lots of different people. I trust that board to be honest, and not sugar coat anything.
  
  There's no way you'll find something that everyone likes, but that's ok.

  This. I like the board because of their honesty. The opinions there can be sort of considered a sample size of what people irl will think (but likely won't tell you).

  If I ask people for an opinion, I want an honest one. The women on that board are honest. If u don't want an honest opinion then yes, you shouldn't post on that board

  I see both sides of this. Are there people that I definitely think could tone down their replies - yes. However, most people who post on that board are looking for honest answers regarding their name choices. While some responses may seem "brutal", if I wanted an honest-to-god gut reaction to a baby name I was choosing, that's where I'd go. Let's be realistic, we've all "side-eyed" someone's baby name choice at some point in time and wondered why no one told them how bad that name really was. 
  
  All that being said, the names hubby and I have come up with are solid choices that I won't change based on others opinions. However, that's not to say I won't post there eventually to get a feel for what my child will be dealing with throughout his/her life in regards to their name.
  
  The name board is not for the easily offended.

  I feel like it's no ones business what I will name my child, which is why I personally don't get involved in boards such as those. My DH and I chose the name and "that's what it's going to be", kind of thing. I find that no matter what, someone may not like the name you choose and if they're honest, just like everyone else, that's their opinion. I guess those boards are there for you to see the publics initial reaction to the name you chose or end up choosing. I believe that you should never let the ideas of other dictate what you end up choosing. Yes they're brutal, but sometimes someone has to be. Just my insight.

  I was excited about that board until I saw some of the replies. It's absolutely fine to not like someone's name but delivery is everything. There is no reason to be out right rude even if it's "honest". A few carefully chosen words can get a point across just fine without getting your b-face out.

  the diametric opposite would be babycenter's baby names board- a quick perusal through the topics had me cringing so hard i think i gave myself scoliosis.  everyone seemed very supportive of one another's odd choices but i kept thinking about how an echo chamber like that would result in an avalanche of children who sound like they've been trying too hard from birth- legions of zinnia witchhazels and gunnar jaxsyns.
