Flu at delivery

Just kind of looking to complain here.
40 weeks today and was scheduled for induction this morning due GDM and doc being unsure how big baby is. I had worked myself up and was so excited until yesterday when (womp womp) I came down with the flu. Fever, body aches, chills, headache - the whole nine yards. Called my OB this morning who recommended delaying the induction because, as she put it, "labor is the hardest thing you'll ever go through and you should really not be sick when you tackle that". I totally agree - but now just praying that I don't go into labor on my own until this illness passes.
Anyone been ill during labor? Worried about the process itself as well as the effects that it might have on our baby. I'm hoping that some good at least comes out of this in that maybe our son is getting no some passive immunity from me while I'm sick.

Re: Flu at delivery

  • I just talked to my OB about this because I wasn't feeling good! She said in all her years she has only delivered 1-2 babies with suck moms because our bodies won't go into labour if it's busy fighting off a virus. That's what I was told anyhow!

  • My OB said the same thing as PP! Babies like to come when your bodies ready, when your sick you are definitely not ready!
I hope you feel better soon!
