GTKY: What is your favorite Christmas movie?

So excited for Christmas! A Christmas Story is my favorite movie of all time and I watch it year round. I bet I average 2-3 times a month and then in December that number is probably multiplied by 5. I just can't stop watching it! What is your favorite?

Re: GTKY: What is your favorite Christmas movie?

  • Miracle on 34th Street. But it has to be the original and in black and white.
Christmas Vacation is a close 2nd.

  • Definitely White Christmas, though my love for it is close to Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer. Really, I just love Christmas movies-- there are many that I enjoy!
  • It's so hard to pick a favorite.  Elf, Charlie Brown, A Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, and the Grinch are at the top of my list though.
  • Home Alone and Home Alone 2!
    Merry Christmas ya filthy animal!
  • I'm with @PYLWhammy on the Home Alone. I also love The Miracle on 34th St, but I've only seen the one in color.

We also always watch Jingle All The Way - My husband loves Arnold, and I laugh every time he quotes him.
  • Oohh so many! I would say White Christmas but I don't really consider it a true Christmas movie because we've always watched it year round. Then there's The Grinch (Cartoon version), The Santa Clause and the Nutcracker- but only a specific one but I can't spell the male lead's name- but he's a very famous Russian Ballet Dancer.
  • It doesn't feel like Christmas time until I've seen Christmas Vacation and Elf.

I'm also a big fan of The Family Stone, it isn't a classic but I love it and I cry like a baby every time.

  • @LadySamLady We watched The Family Stone on TV this weekend and I cried for about 30 minutes when it was over!
  • Judge away...but it's 100% Bad Santa lol
  • @ladysamlady just watched Christmas Vacation and Elf back to back on ABC Family last night! Such a good Sunday night. I also love the Family Stone and Home Alone... those really make me feel like it's Christmas
  • I can't believe I forgot Love Actually!!

  • Judge away...but it's 100% Bad Santa lol
This is DH's favorite Christmas movie as well....so it's played regularly from November to January in our house!

  • I love Elf (one of the few movies I can stand Will Ferrell in) and The Miser Brother's Christmas!
  • I actually am not a fan of Christmas movies :# ... but I do watch Little Women every year at Christmastime.
  • I love all the Rankin-Bass classics (Rudolph, Year Without a Santa Claus, Santa Claus is Coming to Town etc)

The cartoon How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Elf, Love Actually, and of course, A Christmas Story! MH and I just watched A Christmas Story last night, but I ended up passing out just after the infamous mall Santa scene.

  • I can't pick just one! Christmas Vacation, Elf, and A Christmas Story are on the top of my list though. I have to at least watch those during the Christmas season.
  • White Christmas is not just my favorite Christmas movie, but my favorite musical as well! I haven't watched it yet, though >.<

  • Elf is #1!!

Followed by: The Santa Claus (only #1 - #3 isn't bad but #2 is just plain nonsensical), Home Alone 1 & 2, and Christmas Vacation!

I've suffered a few "giggle pees" at that part lol
  • Another vote for Home Alone!!  I love Elf too.

  • I like White Christmas, It's a Wonderful Life, The Santa Clause, Christmas Comes to Willow Creek (my dad's favorite), and my DH's favorite has grown on me: A Muppet Family Christmas.

I actually can't stand the big ones that everyone else seems to like: A Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, and Elf (well, Elf I can take or leave, I don't dislike it as much as I do the other two). I also despise the Jim Carey version of The Grinch. I much, much, much prefer the original one.

lol. Sorry. I'm just kinda "eh" about Elf and find A Christmas Story incredibly stupid.

  • I have to add...I totally forgot about Home Alone. I guess I have three fav movies

Also, some girls I work with were talking about their favorite holiday movies the other day. Movies they names- Bridget Jones's Diary, The Holiday, that romantic movie I never saw and cant think of the name of (urggggg preggo brain). I never would have considered any of these "christmas" movies....

  • @countrygrl5533 I have to agree about A Christmas Story...I was only luke-warm about it when I first saw it, and the fact that it seems to play 24-7 during the season has me sick of it. I do love the others though.
  • It's A Wonderful Life and Christmas Story is a tie.

Ugh - I don't like that movie. For some reason, I put it in the same category as Nightmare before Christmas (I have zero idea why), but it is not a good category to be in. Or the Grinch with Jim Carey - I don't like Jim Carey at all.
  • I love Christmas movies: 1) White Christmas 2) Elf, 3) Miracle on 34 St. (newer) 4) Christmas in Connecticut 5) Holiday Inn. I don't really care for Christmas Vacation or A Christmas Story. My family made some weird tradition a few years ago to watch Fiddler on the Roof. Mostly everyone falls asleep watching it..

  • I guess It's A Wonderful Life? I don't really like it that much, but I used to watch it every year with my family growing up, so it kind of stuck with me.
  • This is relatively off topic (kind of) but are there these GTKY threads every week and I just miss them? If not, I think it would be a fun idea :)

I will add that I LOVE the Nightmare Before Christmas :) I have a Jack Skellington stocking hanging in my living room lol I totally understand people's distaste for it though. It's definitely not a movie for everyone lol for example DH is definitely not a fan lol
  • I love all Christmas movies! My favs would have to be elf, the walton's homecoming, a Christmas carol (the musical version). Although it's not Christmas until we've watched Rudolph and Charlie Brown
  • A Christmas Story, The Family Stone and The Polar Express!  I can't wait til my child gets to watch The Polar Express - I don't know what it is about that movie but it's by far my favorite!
