Belly Button Rings

I love my belly ring and I really don't want to give it up. I take it out when I'm in public now cause I think it looks ridiculous poking out of my shirt. I know they make pregnancy ones.. Anyone else have this? I feel like maybe I could just let it grow over and get it re pierced after I'm done having kids. Or maybe I should buy a pregnancy ring and keep it in at night? I heard that if you keep it, when you get bigger it can look kinda "distorted" and doesn't look very attractive. Advise please?

Re: Belly Button Rings

  • Having the same issue... I hate my belly without the ring. Not sure what's the best thing now..hopefully someone can give us an advice .

  • I plan on getting a pregnancy ring quite soon. I really don't want to pierce through the scar tissue later. Also, I myself am not too worried about how it will look while pregnant. All that really matters to me is that the piercing is in tact after the birth.

  • I have mine pierced although I took the ring out long long ago and the hole never really closed completely, though I'm sure i couldn't get a ring in it. So far it doesn't look too distorted but it may later on. I'm not super worried about it, but I would suggest keeping something in it if you want to keep it open. Or like you said, be prepared to get it redone after you have kids.

I'm more concerned what it will look like after, but my cousin had one and hers looks totally fine now after she had her baby. So I am just hoping all the moisturizing I'm doing helps the skin go back in place
  • I asked two of my friends who have them and they advised me to take it out at 5-6 months. Once their belly went back down they just put the ring back in. If it has healed properly the hole won't close if there isn't a ring in there.
  • I put this on fb as well and my friend said she took hers out for 7 months while she was pregnant and she could still get a ring through it after.

  • I have three navel piercings and I'm planning to get those pregnancy bars soon to have on hand when/if my holes start feeling funny.  Just to be safe - all my piercings tend to close up no matter how many years I've had jewelry in them.

  • I had this in since I was about 15 weeks, that's when my belly button decided to flatten out, now at 21 weeks it's completely popped out. The pregnancy belly button rings are flexible and I can keep it in if I want to, it just looks like I have three belly buttons so I choose to keep it out. I'm just going to poke it through every couple of days instead of keeping it in, I keep getting it caught on things.
  • I am glad this thread was started. I think I will be getting a prenatal ring soon as well.I have had mine a little over three years and it hurt like hell. I am nit ready to give it up/let it grow in. I will make a final decision after birth depending on what it looks like!

The only place I got a stretch mark/scar last pregnancy was where my belly button ring used to be. I can't imagine it looking pretty being all stretched out after having kids but maybe you'll be luckier than I!
  • This is the first I've heard of pregnancy belly rings. My best friend tried to keep hers last pregnancy with a regular ring and has a couple strech marks & a scar just from the ring. I took mine out a week ago when it started looking funny under my shirt and it's shown no signs of closing. Then again I have my ears pierced and will sometimes go a couple months without wearing ear rings and they're fine.
  • Where did you get that ring? I have a belly button ring aw well and I don't want to take it out lol ...thank you!!!
  • I had a ring since I was 15 (27 now) and very rarely took it out- like you I don't like my bellybutton without it. I had to take it out in may for an ectopic surgery (cut through the bellybutton even) and when I tried to put it back like 10 days later- even after 12 YEAR- that sucker did not wanna go. It got infected nearly immediately and I just gave up on it. I've been without since may and getting used to my bellybutton as is. I don't plan to put it back. Just something to consiser, even if you repierce later, even if you heal quite well. I forgot the care that a healing piercing takes and I'm just too lazy now lol.

  • I've had mine going on 15 years.
I took mine out at 18w3d. It was catching on everything, and now my belly button is about to pop out. I'm glad I took it out. I agree, I hate my bellybutton. I hate bellybuttons in general. It's wierd to give it up, but worth it. It had a good run.

I did some research and like pregnancy you navel piercing and how it does varies from person to person- some people take em out and they close even if well healed (10+ yrs), others they stay open, some people have the piercing stretch/distort (even if they take it out) some people find the pregnancy bars helpful, others say they are uncomfortable, some people just run a ring thru the piercing once a day to keep it open etc. from what I can tell it depends.

Personally I think the pregnancy bars and charms are adorable, I have a gender neutral one in right now and I'm excited to to get a new one when we find out the sex - a little set of pink or blue feet dangling from my belly button in my maternity pictures is just too cute an idea to pass up for me!!!

FYI I got mine on Amazon- do read the reviews some are better than others but none were expensive ($10-30) depending on what you want.
  • I also ordered my pregnancy bb rings on Amazon. They are flexible and still somewhat cute and they're longer than normal rings but more comfortable. They do still show through shirts so that's a down fall but they're much more comfy and will keep the hole open. Every time I take out my rings my holes start to close up and it's such a pain to get them back in.
  • I have my belly button pierced and I will be keeping a ring in it. I wanted mine done for YEARS before I finally had it done and I do not want it to close up.
