Round ligament pains?

Hey mamas! I just got my positive test yesterday, and it doesn't feel real quite yet! This is baby #2 for us, with a one and a half year old. I think I'm 5 weeks, as far as I know. I have like crampy pains (that feel like my period...had that early with my first), but then some sharp pains when I cough or move real quickly. I can't remember if round ligament pain starts this early! So, my question is this...is it too early to have round ligament pain? Thanks!

Re: Round ligament pains?

  • I am just over 6 weeks and I have terrible RLP . I sneezed last night and was almost in tears. I don't remember it this early with my 1st either.

  • I am the same way! I just found out I'm pregnant, and I am having pain when I move and cough, had no idea what was going on.
  • I don't remember getting RLP with DD1 until later on.... however, that was one of my first clues when I was pregnant with #2! I started feeling them here and there around 3 weeks, before I even took my first HPT. I thought it was odd starting so early too, not sure if it is because our bodies are already used to having babies? I haven't had my 1st apt yet to ask the Dr.

  • My daughter is 13 months old. I'm 5 + 6 pregnant and have wicked rlp. I called my midwife. Her dumbass nurse said it was too early for those. Hmmm. Definitely round ligament pain
  • It gets earlier and more painful with each pregnancy. You body remembers what it is supposed to do and prepares for it faster.

  • Yep! I'm def. having them too!! I wonder if they come on earlier as a STM because I don't remember them this early with my first.
  • Yes here too! This is my 3rd. Horrible RLP. Right in the groin.
  • Glad y'all are in the same boat! I wondered if it was because our bodies have done this before...makes sense to me! Thanks ladies!
  • Same thing here! It was the first indication that I was pregnant.

  • So glad to have found this thread bc it's making me a nervous wreck. Having tiny twinges like cramps but only every so often and not really painful. I notice it more too when my bladder is full. I'm also thinking I didn't notice it when I was pregnant with my son bc I was working and super preoccupied vs now when I'm home and just thinking about pregnancy

  • I get RLP bad and it starts early. Feels like someone is snapping a rubber band on my ute if I cough or sneeze. I'm only 5ish weeks.

  • I'm 5 weeks 3 daya and I've had cramps and what feels like RLP the whole time so far. At least I know I'm not crazy!
  • I thought this was what I was having, but it turns out I have 2 cysts. My doctor told me it was too early for RLP, and what I was feeling was pain from the cysts. Apparently, it is pretty common when you're pregnant to develop an ovarian cyst (your copus luteum can grow even more and develop into a cyst). I did fertility treatments where I released more than one egg and wound up with a corpus luteum cyst on each ovary.

  • Ooh bummer! Do you have to do anything for them? Can you get these even if you didn't do fertility treatments?
  • I actually didn't know what round ligament pain was until I googled "cramping in early pregnancy". So glad to find this thread too! I have been having slight cramps for the past week. I've been doing a lot of traveling so sitting for long periods of time hasn't helped. I notice it happens more at night for me as well.
  • I just found out I'm pregnant, and I'm only in my 4th week. I had concerning twinges on my right side a couple of times today when I stood up from a chair, and now that I've looked up round ligament pain I think that's got to be it!
  • @babayRFL They don't give you anything for them. We are just watching them with my ultrasounds and unless I develop extensive pain, they're nothing to be worried about. You can get them without fertility treatments, and he said it's fairly common to have one during early pregnancy. My mother-in-law and 2 of my co-workers had them during their pregnancies.
