3 FTM questions

1- I had a planned CS 17 days ago and I'm still bleeding. Is this normal? and at what point should I consult my DR?

2- I planned to BF But had to switch to formula, I haven't expressed in about 10 days but I'm still producing milk... 2hen will this stop?

3- my LO needs to be nursed to sleep 9n my chest it is only when she is in a deep sleep that we can put her in the bassinet and 80% of the time she will sleep for 2.5-3hrs. Is this a phase for newborns?

    1) yes it's normal to bleed for a few weeks. You haven't bled in 9 months so you're going to fed rid of what the uterus needs to expel plus get your first real period. But if you're bleeding through a pad in an hour, call

    2) it varies from person to person. Your milk can dry up in a week, or a month.

    3) babies are designed to only sleep 2-3 hours at a time. BF or Formula fed doesn't play a part in that. As far as needing to fall asleep on your chest... You're giving in to her ;) I in no way am a believer in crying it out but *I* would try feeding her, burping her and then laying her in her bed with a paci for comfort and seeing if she can't figure out how to soothe herself. By all means if she cries more than a little, pat her, sing to her but you're going to have to break this habit or you'll be stuck

Edited to ask if there seems to be any gas issues that make her tummy hurt and that's why she wants on your chest?

  • Some women will bleed the whole 6 weeks pp, but every woman is different. you just had a baby!
As far as your milk drying up its different for every woman, also. You can try temp. tightly wrapping your chest and that may speed the process.
Newborns need to eat every 2-4 (ish) hours as their stomachs are very small so of course this is normal. I suggest picking up a few books OP and also checking your spelling before posting.
  • Thanks for the info :) But question 3 wasn't about feeding habits(sorry if that was not clear) I understand that newborns eat small amounts and frequently.
  • Kepoole- Originally we thought it may have something to do with gas But then thought that she wouldn't be happy to sleep in the bassinet once in a deep sleep? We think she likes the sound of our heart beats :). I have downloaded a white noise app and put the bassinet on an incline and it seems to have helped most of the time but still likes to fall asleep on our chests.
  • Sorry about my spelling, I'm on my mobile!!

After my c section I bled for at least 4 weeks. as far as the milk what PP said. White  noise was a life saver for us. And the incline. Not the best habit but we used the swing and maamaroo on those crazy nights when DD refused to sleep flat. Their bodies are so used to being curled up that it's not natural for them to be flat. Hoping you are able to get some rest soon!
  • Our DD won't sleep in her bassinet, she has reflex and doesn't like to sleep flat on her back. I've tried putting her in it and she fusses for 20 then cried so I take her our. She likes sleeping in bouncers, swings or on us. Most of the night she sleeps in her bouncer and then last few hours she sleeps with me. Do whatever works but they are to young to let them cry.(everyone's beliefs are different)
  • If you are trying to dry up your supply i have found Benadryl works. Or at least it did for me within 24 hrs. And as for the sleeping we are big believers in swaddling. DD1 was sleeping peacefully and at long stretches by 2-2 1/2 weeks. Of course if she was hungry she would wake, but for the most part waited till morning.
