Plus size weight gain...

Hey ladies, I was just curious about other plus size ladies and how they have been in pregnancy with weight gain/loss? What were you before, what are you now, height? Is your doctor concerned are you?

I have lost 8 lbs since finding out I was pregnant and haven't gained any. But, before I was pregnant I was working with my OB on my PCOS and my hypothyroidism. We had been trying for over a year to get pregnant and once we got all my thyroid medication and metformin at the right dosage the weight started coming off like crazy and I got pregnant. I lost 26 lbs before getting pregnant without changing a single thing other than that medication and have since lost the 8 lbs. So I attribute a lot of mine to getting all my levels normal. My doctor has been super happy as far as my weight through the pregnancy. He didn't want me gaining any more than 15 lbs. I'm 30 weeks and hoping I can stay around my pre pregnancy weight for the next few weeks.

ETA: I wanted to add that I was also on metformin!

  • I lost about 22 lbs in the first two trimesters as I was throwing up every other day, and I still throw up a couple of times a week.I have 14lbs to go til I am at my prepregnancy weight. The past couple of visits I've gained 1lb every 2 weeks so I don't think I'm getting back to my prepregnancy weight. I have PCOS and prior to falling pregnant my OB had upped my Metformin levels which I know has helped with the weight.
  • I was at a high for myself at 255, 5' 6" pre pregnancy. I lost about 4 lbs in first tri and have now gained 9 since my pre-pregnancy weight. My drs (there are 4 at my practice) never bring it up, I asked when I was only up 2lbs if I should be worried not gaining and he just said "no, I'd only be concerned if you were gaining" They always say baby is on the larger side of on track which makes sense because DH and I were both over 8lbs.

I shouldn't have brought it up because I don't really know what that means but now I'm just not worrying about it unless they say something.

  • I've lost 15lbs so far this pregnancy but I had to change my eating habits due to gestational diabetes so I attribute it to that. Doctor hasn't been concerned at all. After DD was delivered I had dropped a total 25lbs during that pregnancy (I was only down 6lbs from starting weight when I went in for delivery and 25 lbs at my 1 week post-op appt...so two weeks after my c-section).

    I am 5'6" and started at 250....so I'm 235 right now.
Praying this is our take home baby. STICK TURKEY Mommy will miss you everyday my beautiful angel. We love you Lilypie Angel and Memorial tickers M/C on 1/05/11 at 11 weeks.

  • I am up a total of 11 pounds so far. I didn't start gaining any until a couple months ago due to nausea. Babies are each 3.5 lbs.
  • I am 5'10, 210 pre-pregnancy and have not gained any weight.  I have fluctuated 2-3 pounds at different stages of this pregnancy, though.  Doctor is not concerned, said 0-15 pound gain is ideal.

  • I am 5'8 my starting weight was 215 and currently I am at 241. Total weight gain of 26 pounds this pregnancy. My doctors haven't mentioned any concerns, my blood pressure is low so that's a plus. I am more concerned about my weight then anybody else. When I mention it to friends and family they say "you're pregnant" as if that's some type of excuse. Needless to say after baby comes I would love to get under the 200 pound mark.
  • I started out as a size 12/14ish and I'm up about 15lbs at 33 weeks. I always thought I'd be super hungry and just gain everywhere when I got pregnant but it's really just been my belly - super happy about that! :) I feel good!

I'm currently 33 weeks and I was hit big time by morning sickness in my 1st and 2nd trimesters and lost a total of 21 lbs. I'm up 2 lbs from my lowest pregnancy loss weight and still get sick every now and then. Baby boy is growing like he should and the past few appointments have been with other Drs in the practice (mine was actually on mat. leave) and none of them have mentioned my weight as an issue.

My Dr. did show some concern at my rapid weight loss early on but then it evened out and I've been the same weight for the last 2-3 appointments.

    ETA: # of weeks
  • I started at 300 prepregnancy. 5'2". I'm 31 weeks and am currently at 315. Doc seems fine with it- no issues with blood pressure, sugars, or rapid gain or loss. I gained about 25 lbs total with each of my two previous pregnancies so i don't anticipate too much more.
