How much , how often , how long ?

Soo the past two night little man has slept through the night ( we've put him down a little later ) however because I'm so sleep deprived that when I try to set an alarm to pump I turn it off . With that being said ... I did a seven hour stretch last night and this am pumped 16 oz ! My boobs almost exploded ! (Pic Included ) tall bottle was from only left side !

Questions is - how often are you ladies pumping now , how long each session, and how many oz are you getting . Also are you EPing , Ebfing or a little of both and has your period returned ?

For me : My little guy has a tounge tie that isn't being revised until after the first so I mostly pump or I have sore red nipples . However because I love breastfeeding some days I deal with the pain and nurse him most of the day .

On a typical day I'll pump 4-5 times a day . I average about 10 oz each session and pump for 20min or untill my breast are emptied .

No period yet .

How about you ?

Wow that's impressive. LO is 3 mths. I nurse 6-7 times a day. He gets 3oz bottle of pumped milk for afternoon nap. And 3-4oz bottle of pumped milk before bed and I let him nurse for 15min after to fall alseep.

I usually only pump twice in a 24 period now for 20min. Typically before I go to bed 10pm and/or 5am before LO wakes up. I am only getting 2-3oz per breast so about 4-6oz total every time I pump. But I think that's because I'm still nursing quite a bit.

I just got my period which makes it my third time since LO was born 9/5...my period seems normal.

    *edited for pump time*
    Hope this helps :-)

  • I EBF, feed 8-12 times a day-varying lengths (5-20min depending on her mood and my letdown). I pump in the morning after she nurses on one side. I pump the other side for a few minutes with a manual pump until I have 4oz. I'm just doing it to build a stash.

  • EP and pump 5x a day for 20 minutes. Average 9 oz per pump session. Planning to step it up a little over the next week to stimulate more since I'm past 12 weeks and don't want to see a drop in supply. Working on getting baby boy back to breast since he also has a lip and tongue tie that will be getting revised soon.
  • I EBF, 6-7 times a day. The time varies. Usually he empties me within 5 min per side (I have a forceful letdown), but a lot of times he'll suckle for up to 20 minutes per side. I pump occasionally but he's gotten to the point where he won't take a bottle. When I do pump I get 9-10 oz total. LO is 3 months.
  • I'm super jealous. I'm lucky if I can pump 3 oz total. :( it's usually 2 or under.b
  • Yeah that's a lot. Curious.., does lo one drink everything you pump in a day? I nurse and supplement. I don't get much pumping at all :/

  • That's amazing!! I have low supply so while I bf every 2-3 hours I pump afterwards a few times a day. I pump around 11pm before going to bed, then set my alarm for 2:30 am then I get up at 5:30 to bf before getting the kids off to school. I'm afraid to drop the nighttime pump because that's when I pump the most (a measly 2.5 ounces). I have to supplement with formula too.

  • I pump 3x while at work, every 2-3 hours, usually 15 min (double electric) and get 4 oz (sometimes 5) each time. I will sometimes pump in the am after her first wake-up and will get 2-3 oz after she's eaten- to help my stash or if I know I'll have a longer day at work.

  • I get an ounce per day total. Per DAY! :( DD is probably 99% formula fed by now.

  • Wow I am jealous of you ladies!! I EP 4-5 times daily for 20 min each. Morning pump I get 10-12 oz then the rest of the day I get around 6. I absolutely hate pumping but am almost to my goal of 3 months so I don't want to give up. But, how do you ladies do it?! I just can't get myself to do an extra pump and I feel like it's almost pointless because I don't get that much more if I do!
  • Since going back to work, I nurse in the morning before work, pump 4 times at work for 20 minutes each session, then nurse 2-3 times in the evening. I usually get 6-8 oz total from my first pumping session, then about 3-4 oz. total for each session after that. I get more on days I drink a lot of water or drink a Gatorade. I usually drink a Gatorade sometime before my last pump of the day ... the Gatorade definitely helps! Baby drinks 3-4 4 oz. bottles while I'm at work (he's 16 weeks).

No period yet, and I'm so ok with that!!
  • ^^^^^^yes @jen83mn I forgot to mention gatorade and oatmeal totally help me <3
  • Do you think Powerade would do the same as Gatorade? Lol I love Powerade but not so much Gatorade!

LO eats around 24 oz a day . We do 6 4 oz bottles . Usually my last pumping session I will leavve in the fridge for the morning And then freeze everything I get at my morning pump . I've got a nice stash but being a SAHM I don't know when we will ever get to it all . So to answer your question lol I have an oversupply and make more than he takes in

Same!!! When I was BF at 8 weeks, nothing was coming out. :( He was getting everything from formula. I would pump both sides and get .5oz. LC said my milk never came in. Weird how different it can be from person to person!

  • I breastfeed when I am home and pump three times per day when I'm at work. The bottles that I pump are anywhere between 4-6 ounces. The baby is satisfied after 4 ounces. I have a small stash for emergencies but most expressed milk that lo eats is only a day or 2 old and from the fridge. She's 3 months.
  • I pump 4 times a day during the work week and twice on the weekends (morning and night).

After the morning feed, I usually get 6-9 ounces in 15-20 minutes. She usually only nurses from once side, so I'll get 2 ounces front that side and 5+ from the other.

I pump 3 times at work every 2-4 hours depending on meetings for 15-20 minutes and get 4-5.5 ounces.

Then I usually pump 2-3 hours after her last feeding and before I go to bed. I usually get 4 ounces in 15-20 minutes.

I generally get 20- 25oz a day and she usually eats 15- 16 oz at daycare ( 3 x 5.5oz bottles). I have such a large stash I started giving her a bottle of frozen milk to start using up some of the old stuff. So she gets 2 bottles of fresh pumped milk and 1 of frozen stuff. I know it's good for 6 months but breastmilk changes to meet their caloric needs and I don't like the idea of giving older milk.
  • I was getting between 30 to 38 oz a day. We EP. I was doing 5 pumps per day first pump was usually around 11 to 13 oz then 5 oz or a little more the next 4 pumps. He drinks 6 5 oz bottles a day 30 oz or so. I had a fever of 102 two sundays ago and had flu like symptoms that whole day and then the fever was gone md says it was a virus- I now pump around 27 oz... I am really upset about the drop in supply especially now that I am 16 weeks pp and supposedly my supply is regulated. Now my husband is like just pump an extra time blah blah. I have a 1 1/2 hour commute one way so 3 hrs in car total I get up get every thing ready after my 430 pump and I get up with him during the night as well as bring him to daycare which elongates my commute - when would you like me to sleep DH? No period yet thankfully
  • Ooouch that look painful! I cry when I get 8oz in my boobs.
So I'm at week 13 and EPing. For the night I pump before 12 and sleep around 6 hours. It depends on who gets up first - me or baby. And I pump 5 times a day for 15-20 min.
Since like week 10 my milk has been dripping tho.
  • I pump at work 2-4 times a day but on average it's 3 times a day. I usually get 5-6oz combined at a time. I shoot to pump 15oz a day. I send 12oz to daycare and if I get the extra 3oz I save them for my stash. When I'm home with baby I let her nurse on demand. My baby is 12 weeks and I just got my period

Yeah, I'm wondering what I'm going to do with my freezer stash too! While I was home on maternity leave I worked on building up my stash, but now that I'm back to work I pump enough to feed baby the next day so I haven't had to use my stash. I much prefer to give him fresh milk too, but of course I don't want it to go to waste when the six months is up, so I might start doing one bottle a day of frozen milk and then freeze the extra bottle I end up with from pumping each day since that will last six months from now.
  • You could always sell or donate whatever milk you don't use. I use a fozen bag every Monday since I don't pumped during the day on the weekends. I pump during my sons night bottle which is enough to fill the next nights bottle. My work pumping is enough for the 3 bottles he gets while I'm at work the next day. We do half breast milk and half formula, and my son eats 6-7 oz bottles.
