1st Trimester

Fatigue in early pregnancy..

How tired were you in early pregnancy? I've never been the kind of person that needed a lot of sleep but now I find over this last week I've been going to bed pretty early for me and sleeping without waking up at all for 10 hours! The doctor told me it's pretty normal, but even after sleeping so much I find that I'm just "meh" throughout the day. I had a bit of a caffiene addiction so not consuming caffeine could be a really big part of it. Were you really fatigued? Or not at all? When did it start and did it ever subside later on? How did you deal with it?

Re: Fatigue in early pregnancy..

  • Honestly, I'm 5 weeks and absolutely exhausted allllll the time! I think it's definitely normal

  • It's totally normal. I would nap every day after work. You're allowed up to 200 mg of caffeine btw which is equal to 4 cans of Coke so if you need caffeine, have some.

  • Totally normal. Yes it does subside (it definitely did for me) but it's shortly replaced by second & third trimester insomnia.
  • Completely normal. For some, energy levels will peek in the 2nd tri. I have more energy some days now at 26 weeks but it's easy for that fatigue to creep back in. Growing babies is hard work. Let yourself sleep as much as possible. Also, carbs are a pregnant girls dream food but remember to eat more food that doesn't just have empty calories. Your body will thank you.
  • I was crazy tired 6-11weeks. I napped all the time. It has gotten way better now at 23weeks though
  • @DrillSergeantCat I'm trying to limit myself to about 65mg a day, I was drinking about 1000+mg a day before I got pregnant so if I start to drink caffeine I will drink way too much. I switched from coffee and sodas to green tea.

It seems like I can never get enough sleep! My mom told me light exercise (walking..etc) will help wake me up but it seems so unappealing lol, I haven't even gone to my yoga classes lately. I will be sitting on the couch and the next thing I know I'm waking up 3 hours later.

I guess I will ride it out and be thankful I for sleep while I have it!

@JLaVO888 Can you give me any foods in specific that would be good? I have to be careful about my sugar intake.
  • Very normal. For me, it became progressively better once I entered 2nd Tri. Not an overall improvement, but a gradual one.
