Swimmers...

For anyone else who is a keen swimmer (and hopefully some who have already had babies previously!) - is there any possibility of not needing a maternity swim suit? Have just bought a new leg suit 1 size bigger than I am now (to fit my new boobs and little belly in!) and am hoping that will last a while as I can't find any maternity leg suits ?

Re: Swimmers...

  • What material is it? Unless it's rubber/neoprene they tend to stretch out with regular use. I've only managed to get to the pool once this pregnancy, but my plan is to get a bigger top for my 2 piece training suit.

  • I would guess probably not depending on how you grow.  Since lycra suits like Speedo, Nike, etc aren't very forgiving and stretchy, I would be afraid it's going to pull away from your crotch area to compensate for your belly, and wouldn't lay across your skin under your belly if that makes sense.  I would go for a two piece training suit.  I know Speedo, Nike, Dolfin make tankini's for training that are long, but would stay over your belly.

Leg suits don't have the crotch problem as much as they go to your knees (which is why I love them!) and fairly stretchy - but good idea to go for a 2 piece with shorts though as I get slower (when I had a 2 piece previously the bottoms would fall down as I pushed off from the wall lol)
    Thanks!
  • I definitely needed a maternity suit with my first...

  • You could also try a men's jammer suit. They're just a speedo with legs to the knee.

  • For me at least, I gain around 35 lbs and could never have gotten by without a maternity swimsuit.
  • @meggyme that is a good shout - I could buy a normal maternity swimsuit and put the men's jammers underneath to get best of both worlds- thanks!
